A lot of questions have been arising about Cygnus lately. Why not consolidate them into one thread like all the other classes have (for soul masters, atleast). Procedure is just like any other thread like this. Ask a question about soul masters and wait for someone to answer. I'll do my best to contribute since I have experience.
Most of my questions are about soul driver seeing as how its one of the new skills a soul master/ dawn warrior get . How big is soul driver attack range ? Also does it stay the same or grow with more skill points added into it ? Last question about soul driver is, does it open more areas to train at as well as being a good main attack while waiting to open up branish? Also is about the skills gain at 100 and 110 , i may not be that smart but do the skills require skill books like the regular 4th job skills or are they all ready open like normal 2nd and 3rd job skills?
Just about my favorite part of beign a soul master. You can "jump shoot" it to go extra far. It rivals FJ distance if I "jump shoot" it.

There is a delay, not too bad. For training you barely even notice. When walking, I "jump shoot" soul runner and then go to my mount for ~1 second then get off and do it again. I'd say the delay is anbout as long as SP, but perhaps a bit less. Not sure since I rarely play my infighter now.

Second job: Personally, I LOVE soul runner. I maxed it first because it only took 3 levels. It REALLY helps trainign with soul blade too. Also, I wouldn't max final attack so early -- I maxed it last.
Third job: Needs a lot of improvement. Combo attack: don't go farther than level 15 for a bit (this is when you get 5 orbs). I am not sure whether it would have been better to go combo attack first but I know it was good at 15. I personally did soul driver to 21 (if that is the level that it hits 7 mobs) > 15 combo > 26 driver > soul charge > combo attack >soul driver. Then I stopped there. This let me save up 21 SP for level 100 to dump into 3-hit brandish (same for advanced combo at 110). Your build doesn't save SP for brandish/advanced combo -- big mistake. I NEVER needed to use panic/coma so you wopn't really need to add them before 110. I just got panic so I could have a "look at my e-penis" moment. I actually dumped the remainder points I had back into booster (16 to sync with rage) and some back into MP recovery (saves me in dojo occasionally) instead of coma.

Soul driver's range is about the same range as soul blade (except it goes behind you too). That is with max driver though. Its range increases with level (as I observed). It's a great mob skill and it helped me goby pretty well up until 100. Lastly, you don't need skillbooks.
P.S. I wrote these replies fast since I have a few other stuff to do as well.
some of the (forceful) suggestions i read about 2nd job are that soul blade is most important because practically it replaces ps and sb so max it (or add to 21) first. 2nd, its always a fairly good idea to get booster right after 5 mastery. finally, get final attack last if you get it. soul blade doesnt activate it. youre thinking like a fighter. fighters are an inferior class to soul masters.
for 3rd job, tehmatt's is good although id max out brandish from 100-103 since you only need to save 20 sp for ac.
thanks for answering the questions i had , just gave me more reasons why to make a soul master , to bad no one else is doing this for the other sections of the KoC

Sounds exactly like Recoil, then, except you can't freely use it in midair. I use Recoil when I'm on the ground some time to move a short distance quickly.

I really think that you need mastery. Soul blade doesn't take over until it is ~ level 18. Slash blast without mastery that long will be very annoying. Also, most people do CPQ ~50. If you do field 3/4 then slash blast is really good. Do mastery > soul blade.

Not really a question, but would you mind making a video of some training, Matt?
Edit @ Shinryuji: Something small, but would it not be better training-wise to finish Soul Blade before Rage, seeing as we have 12 attack potions? Seems like it would speed up killing a bit in the lower levels.

probably would be, had some CPQ mentality while i was making the list though xD
maybe be should of temporarily stopped Rage at 5, finish Blade, and go back to Rage i guess
Should I change anything?
Reason for adding Soul Charge instead of Combo is because I'm not getting Panic/Coma until late 3rd job and I'll probably be training at Skeles when I get Brandish/Adv. Combo.
Another question: Is Soul Driver useful in training? Would it be the main attack skill or would you use it every once in awhile?

Soul Driver seems useful enough seeing as it can hit 7 monsters at lv21, seems like a good idea when combined with soul charge and training at the Black Kentarus map
Looks good. It is personal preference though, but I still might max runner first. I really only noticed a benefit at level 10 so putting 1 SP into it would be useless (if that's what you might have thought next).

Maybe. Most likely not, however. My computer has very low specs, and for some reason Fraps will not work. For that matter, nothing that takes videos/SS will (other than print screen + paste in paint). I'm not sure why this happens (it was after a reformat and I thought I reinstalled all the right drivers).

Combo isn't for the panic/coma. It is for the extra damage, I beleive it gives more than the stated value if you have more orbs. Go play with the formula, but I noticed a large jump in damage after every new orb. Second, soul charge is good. However, its elemental bonus increases with level. At level one you only have 5% elemental bonus! Fromt there on it increases 1% per level. This takes awhile to actually be worthwhile. I believe you will do better doing combo first, even on holy-weak mobs. Someone should play with the numbers though and check it. Also, you might be better off just getting 21 brandish at level 100. That 9 SP into combo/soul charge will help a lot. If you do this then you'll still max advanced combo at 110. Lastly, you'll use soul driver a lot (once it beats soul blade). I'm sure you'll be a god at himes with it. . .

Black kents have a terrible map. I would suggest gobies. . .I was getting over ~40%/hour at 8X.
What class(es) did you play before SM/DW? I've never really played a warrior, so I want to play a DW once I get my slinger to a good level... But all I've every played was this slinger and a cleric that never got past level 42. I want to know what classes you played before, and if they were ranged, did you find playing/training as a DW fun? (I'm not much of a good leveler, either...)

I've played just about them all -- atleast in 3rd job. That is not counting private servers. I found soul masters fun. It is melee with range so it is great. We boss like a hero but train totally different.

I guess it depends on where they are training then, the earliest holy-weak mobs that i can think of are himes which you should go to at the high 80s/low 90s? Black kents have a terrible spawn. I'm not sure about the rest of GMS though. Also, I'm not sure on this, but could it perhaps be the 140% one? The advanced combo multiplier is 1.8 (logically), so could it be that the other orbs add an addition .4 damage? I am no math-wiz though so if I played around with the formulas then I'd probably mess it up.
I'll work on testing my damage at 4-5 orbs then cancel combo. I'll see with what numbers I can come up with.
