Haganai Ep 12 - Some people (on MangaFox, I think) were complaining that Yozora's short hair was horrible a few months ago (they presumably read the light novels), but she looks really good with short hair here; I like her with short hair more than I her long-haired look.

Damn. Why did this have to be the last episode...

Mashiro Iro Symphony eps. 1-12: Good God that was cheesy. Still a decent anime, but damn.

Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai ep. 12: If they don't have a second season, then I'm going to be very pissed off by this ending. I might have to pick up the manga too, since I've really enjoyed the story so far.

Ben-To 12 (Final): It has been a while since I've seen an ending that was truly satisfying. Definitely the best anime this season.

Working'!! 13 (Final): I like how they use Matsumoto as a final episode gag. Good run.

Ben-To episode 12 (final episode): A surprisingly awesome ending for a surprisingly awesome show. I can't find any fault with it honestly, it was funny, charming, action packed, wasn't too long or short, didn't drag and the characters were just awesome. A really well made anime, i hope for more like it.

I guess Ben-to is my go back for what I missed show this season. Haven't gotten around to Nichijou yet either.

    Fate Zero S1:
A season of substantial dialogue and exposition. Yet so fun. A strange feat to pull off. Can't believe we have to wait for this completely badass fight that's about to go down D:
I need artwork of Alexander and Kamina fistbumping or otherwise kicking ass together.

    Last Exile: Fam 10
HOLY CRAP ALVIS! SO pineappleING CUTE! So much awesome pomegranate going on in this episode. Dio gets a lightsaber duel. Baaadass.
Still, there are supposedly only two more episodes and I'm filled with that terrible feeling of "there's no way in hell to fit this all in and end it" so second season I hope?
Oh thank god. MAL's claiming 21 episodes.

By the way madanthony, Last Exile Ginyoku no Fam is actually the second season in the Last Exile series. Season one aired in 2003, and this season is a direct sequel to it. The characters between the two shows are mostly different, though from what I've read a few characters from the first are in the second. Haven't gotten around to watching season 1 yet myself but I will.

So far this season is pretty damn awesome. Haganai, Shana 3, Guilty Crown, Mirai Nikki, Fate/Zero all awesome shows. Bakuman 2 and Kimi to Boku other solid shows, and then the latter half of Mawaru Penguindrum.

Season one was a lot of fun. A step below any sort of masterpiece, but a show I quite liked. I was under the impression it was a "same universe>new story" deal, but that notion went out the window as soon as Dio showed up right at the start. I'm all excited about Alvis because of the original.

This season has indeed been over the top and awesome. Probably the first time I've stuck with 6 shows the whole season.
I cleared up a lot of my own confusion just a few minutes ago when I found out there was a manga that falls in between the two seasons.
"An interquel story set right after the events of Last Exile and before Fam, The Silver Wing, Travelers from the Hourglass is about Claus, Lavie, Alvis, and the others who followed them on Exile to leave Prester and settle on Earth, their ancestors home world."
I had no idea/forgot the first season occurred on a different planet, but everything makes a hell of a lot more sense now.

Hunter x Hunter ep. 13: Recap episode. Waste of time to watch.

Ben-to ep. 12: Awesome ending is awesome.

Nurarihyon no Mago: Sennen Makyou Finally, I can marathon through it all. It was pretty hard to wait too, and I don't know how I've managed to hold out on Shakugan no Shana so far either.

    Hey it's one of these.

    Spoiler

As for this season, Mawaru Penguindrum was confusing as hell and I'm glad it's over. Ben-to had some of the best moments ever (the poem whilest jumping out the window, clutching his dreamcast comes to mind). Ika Musume had good music again and was still fluffy and enjoyable. C3 I mostly watched for the seiyuus and art, and in those capacities I wasn't disappointed (other areas are easily contested, though). Haganai was meh with a lame ending (so the obvious secret that she was hiding this whole time ends up affecting literally nothing. Pff.) Shana, Hunter, and especially Guilty Crown continue to be interesting/good/amazing respectively.

So who's watching what in the winter season?

Nisemonogatari is the only thing screaming "WATCH ME". Another looks okay. The Black Rock Shooter OVA was... pretty awful, so I'm apprehensive of that. The Space Pirates and Kyosogiga might be- I dunno, entertaining at least?

I don't usually plan out what I'm going to watch. I just play it by ear, and check shows out as I notice them, or as other people praise (or utterly hate) them. Of course, Another sounds pretty interesting, and I'll be watching the final season of Zero no Tsukaima so I can finally be done with the series.

Having read the manga, I can say that the story of "Another" is definitely good, though it's a little on the mind screwy side (along with being horror-ish).

I think the action should start picking up in "Zero no Tsukaima"'s final season, just like "Shakugan no Shana".

    Mashiroiro Symphony:
    Spoiler

Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon: WHAT IS THIS SHOW AND WHY DO I ENJOY IT SO MUCH. Last few episodes were pretty amazing. Tori arguing with Horizon was pretty awesome for some inexplicable reason.
    Fate/zero: SPRING 2012 FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUU UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-
    Shinryaku Ikamusume S2: hnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnggggggggggggggggg
C^3: Started off pretty great, but the last villain was a bit weird. Great cast though. Kirika <33333333
Working!! S2: dat last episode. Asami Kana is so hnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnngggggggggggggggggggg its indescribable.
Ben-to!: This show is almost on the level of Akikan weirdness without the QUALITY.
Boku ha Tomodachi ga Sukunai: Yozora hnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnggggggggggggggggggggggggg ggggg unbelievably good. Decent show, but the slow development and just plain how socially retarded everyone is starts to grit.
Tamuyura Hitotose: I found this show to be rather boring. It was slice of life and all, but I always felt Taketatsu Ayana and Asumi Kana were miscast.
Mawaru Penguindrum: WHAT THE pineapple IS THIS

I'm currently marathoning the latter half of Steins;Gate. I wish I hadn't taken so long to finally watch it, it's so awesome.

    Definitely gonna be watching:
    Black★Rock Shooter
    Mouretsu Pirates
    Another
    Highschool DxD

I just did the exact same thing, didn't pay attention to it while it was airing and didn't watch it for a good while afterwards. Marathoned it last week and loved it immensely, i'm really glad i waited, the weekly format would have ruined the show for me.

Watching a bunch of oldies while I wait for zero no tsukaima F to finish up. Hate having to wait after each episode D:

    So I'll be watching:
    Stein;Gate
    Natsume Yujincho (seasons 2 & 3)
    Nichijou (maybe)
    Mayo Chiki! (maybe)
    Bunny Drop (maybe)

Any good recommendations from last seasons stuff (or prior) that I should watch?
I've watched almost nothing that came out in the last year.

  19. Default

Gosick, Fate/Zero, Mawaru Penguindrum, Boku ha Tomodachi ga Sukunai, Ben-To. I'd also suggest you watch Mayo Chiki. I haven't watched too much from this year myself either that is really recommendation worthy. Guilty Crown and Mirai Nikki are both good shows, but haven't finished. Same with Shakugan no Shana III (but need to watch first two seasons first).

I'm about 3 episodes into Nichijou and so far, so good.
Considering Mayo Chiki is completely out of my realm of typical viewing, I watched about two-thirds of it and it was funny, at least. Didn't finish it, just stopped watching one week as I often do with shows like that. If you're into the whole ecchi/romance/comedy shtick you should like it.

Unmentioned solid shows from the year (Winter 2011-Finished Fall 2011 shows):
Level E was solid. Funny and entertaining. A goofball mix of aliens, humor, and action.
AnoHana was top notch drama-stuffs. Manly tears, manly tears.
UN-GO started a little weak with some episodic/formulaic mystery but then hit a solid stride of stories that loosely strung together into something rather gripping and it ended as a well-made show with an art style and set of characters I quite liked.
Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica turned the magic girl idea on it's head and was a rather glorious, brooding affair.
Deadman Wonderland was an entertaining action gore-fest.
Redline (movie) was an obscenely stylish, very fun watch which I recommend.
The Black Lagoon: Roberta's Blood Trail OVAs also wrapped up, if you liked Black Lagoon.

Going back just a little farther to Fall 2010, Kuragehime was a spectacular slice-of-life/comedy. That's a big seal of approval for me, given that it's not my usual genre. Panty and Stocking was also a funny-as-hell and very weird show. If the Powerpuff Girls was a deplorable sex comedy, that would be Panty and Stocking.

My top picks for the year, more or less in order:
    Steins;Gate
    Mawaru Penguindrum
    AnoHana
    Madoka Magica
    UN-GO
    And I'll also push Redline
