This is why I forbid myself to spend my hard earned money on this game anymore. :( Especially with my current character. I've been inspired by MadSharp of Scania... so... right now this character, Retraces, has 14,461mp at level120. I didn't pay the 15AP Resets I have already bought and I will not pay the rest of the $4000 to reset and convert my mp into HP. -.-

    8.3 grand to have a high-ranked lvl 200 character.

"Celebrating five years of TOTALLY FREE gaming."

What's done is done, but 30 grand would be a sizeable payment towards a mortgage on a condo. I know you've been affected by Mardia drama, (I browse the subforum sometimes,) I mean, was it really worth it?

Well, it's not like I can honestly compare it to how things would've been without spending a dime, or if I had spent the money on something else, so it'd be silly to regret it when it has equal odds of having been better/worse.

I don't believe in second guessing, the bottom line is I enjoyed the time I had, and when it stopped being fun I moved on to other things.

I get about 25k NX a month. Which reminds me that I am overdue to go spend another $25...

I'd rather have a BlackBerry Curve 8900 or a BlackBerry Bold 9000 and use the business plan with all that money.

    $16,682.10
Question. What is your job O:?
I'm going to ballpark my number at ~$5k total. I've spent a lot. I think i've spent like a total of around 1k this year alone, mainly because I had a summer job and spent like everything on NX. Either way, I quit now and hope I can get a little back :[

This topic is interesting and somewhat amusing, but I also think it's a breeding ground for jealousy and mockery. What is its purpose? To fling around the fact that some people can spend money and others cannot?

I got to add to it all though, because it sickens me some narrow minded fools think spending money here is any different from doing it in a real life context just because you get something physical out of that. All things will inevitably end anyway, your computer will die, your new bag will fall apart etc and so on. Even the little kid you donate some money to will die at some point regardless of your best efforts. The kid might get a better run for it though, and in there you find the key. It should mean something to you for a period of time, and if you find no fun in playing Maple in a more dynamic way, then don't. Most people that say it is stupid, but still linger on in some games year after year, are simply jealous and would spend if they had the extra cash.

The comparison between virtual fun versus what they call "real" things is not really valid, and its upholders might want to consider some philosophy oriented academic training.

Note that this is not aimed at those that use MTS instead of spending, it strictly concerns the concept of using money in a virtual context such as, but not only, MapleStory.

I think how many hours I played would be more "regrettable" than money spent.
And I've spent a sizable amount of my income on Maple (close to 5%)

But honestly I am completely fine with this hobby of mine that I have enjoy for several years.

If I had to ballpark mine...I'd say $15-20k. Such a waste...it doesn't seem like that much when you're doing it.

That pomegranate adds up on you fast. I wonder what'd be different if I had invested in something four years ago...

    $15,000 to $20,000!?

You could buy a pretty decent car for that much.

    Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan.

Well, you'd probably have lost it all in one of the various crashes and been frustrated and/or annoyed at the silly waste instead of having enjoyed it at the time.

Then again, you could've gotten into a fatal seizure while playing Maplestory, and then die.

But he'd die happily playing having actually spent his money, rather than having actually felt like his money was lost.

Everyone dies. Not really much of a deterrent.

I know right? It's pineappleing horrible, and were it not for a few friends I gained from there, I'd regret it entirely.

Fair enough. I'd feel better about having at least a chance to make some money out of it, instead of building up an awesome fortune and having Nexon blink it away because of one of their failures.

That concern should be weighed against the fact that any investment can be blinked away without a moment's notice though. Invest in a company and it goes out of business, invest in fossil fuels and they get replaced by green ones, invest in technology and the next big thing crushes it. It's all spikes and bubbles in the end - If you don't want to ride that particular roller coaster it's better to spend on things that make you happy.

You're right. I should have bought myself a 360 and drowned myself in Rock Band 2 DLC. (5,000+ songs)

That makes me much more happy.

How much total? I'm not sure. Throw clothes, pets and a 2x exp card every weekend or two over 3 years or so and there you go. So a few hundred bucks I guess.

I also spent two hundred dollars in one month once, but I stopped that since I think it's a little unhealthy to be so obsessed with items and mesos.
The post about people spending 25k on WoW made me think of this,

This is hard to word I suppose, but I think being so concerned over power in a game is unhealthy (Regardless of if you spend money on the pursuit of it or not). Sure people should do what makes them happy, but does being powerful really bring any sort of meaningful happiness?
I don't think so, I know a lot of people who've spent a lot of time or money buying items and mesos and none of them tell me it's worth it.
The real fun and things you'll really remember is hanging out with friends and such.
So there, flame away of course, but I think spending any amount in the pursuit of nice items would be a waste even if you had all the money in the world since the so called happiness it brings is, for lack of a better word, fake.

I've spent maybe $200 on 2x cards because I was too stupid to get the monthly cards until much later in the game. Kakakakaaa. For those hypocrites out there blasting away, "How can you spend that much money on a game?", It's pineappleing easy. Pets, equips, gach, nx clothing (puuaahaha), 2x cards, washing, etc. People spend $500 on hp washing alone. I should be asking some of you, "How can you spend so much money on hookers and booze?" Spend your money on whatever the hell you want, as long as it make you happyyy. Baw, I'm so sick. ;3; Rant, rant.
    Buy me a rug, Eos!
