Okay........ let's see. Hmmm. Note I'm a Brawler. Also, questions/main point is in blue.

I have accumulated about 1.8 billion thanks to the Item Maker/Relic Patch, but since I've been so miserly/cheap my whole Maple life I am reluctant to spend much money on equipment. I'm so cheap that I was crying on the inside on paying 100m for 10 DEX earrings.

My current INT gear are the following, made some upgrades today:

    -7 INT wand
    -17 INT robe
    -8 INT earrings (upgrade)
    -22 INT Horntail Pendant
    -1 INT glasses
    -12 INT cape
-5 INT level 50 pirate gloves (Made with Adv Wisdom crystal. replaced my 4 INT/4 MA yellow gloves which I am now reselling in MTS; upgrade)
-7 INT temporary Agent shoes (Will use Item Maker and go for 8-10 INT pirate shoes later on with a combination Advanced Wisdom Crystal + Intermediate/Advanced Dark Crystal)
    -15 INT Zakum Helm
-36 Base INT (AP reset during the AP sale for that extra oomph for double washing)

This totals up to 130 INT whenever I would level. Currently I would gain about 4 APs worth of extra HP per level. Now I need to think about how I should go about further gaining more INT. I already reset some AP from STR to INT. A loss of 32 STR isn't going to impact me much when I am DEXless. I am figuring out how to gain another 20 INT so I can gain my goal of 150 INT. The easy way will be to use another 20 resets of course; I am wondering about the hard way though. Is it possible with 1.8b? Or what's a good combination or AP resetting and INT equipment upgrading? If I only have to AP reset 10 times and buy a cheap extra 10 INT, I'd be happy as a clam. NX wise buying better equipment via MTS is an option for me.

What do people think of my DEX plan?

    Current DEX equipment:
    -20 base DEX
-25 DEX 6 slot Zakum Helm
    -16 DEX hammered Yellow Cape
    -10 DEX Leaf Earrings
    -7 DEX Violet Snowshoes
    -1 DEX glasses
    -Two 2 STR/DEX rings (4 DEX total)
    -5 DEX MoN
    -20 DEX White Pollard

    DEX count: 108

DEX wise, I already planned out to get a Black Belt as well as finishing scrolling off my 25 DEX 6 unhammered slot helm. If I do it right, I can equip a Canopus overall (level 110) without shoes, in which will be Reverse Shoes. That will obviously mean I'm more than well off to equip a Reverse Equinox DEXless with help from the Horntail Pendant. Without a MoN I lose ~9.7 attack, but with the STR gain from the new equipment (22 + ~12 from overall + ~10 from shoes = 44 STR) it's worth about 6-7 attack. Add in a rough goal of gaining 11 weapon attack over my current knuckle I am foreseeing a 7-8 attack gain. That of course doesn't count the perk of having a hella lot more defense and avoid.

So I'm only a few levels away from having all my high priority skills maxed on my Corsair.

At level 161, I will have:
    30 Cannon
    30 Torpedo
    30 Air Strike
    20 Bullseye
    10 Ship
    1 Rapid Fire
    1 Elemental Boost
    1 Hypnotize
    1 Wrath of the Octo
    0 MW

    2 extra points.

What next? I'm leaning toward MW, but the prices for that are kind of high right now and max MW is pretty readily available anywhere there's a mage around. It would help tremendously if it could increase my chances of 2/3HKOing Oblivion monsters, but I dunno if a couple hundred range would make that difference.

Rapid Fire has always seemed kind of useless. I never use it when training, and a small boost to bossing damage doesn't seem that worth it. Especially since the only bossing I do is occasional HH/BF/Pap/Latanica solos + a Zak run every once in a while. Plus, 1 RF is better for Dojo since it consumes less MP.

I might raise Elemental Boost to 16, then max MW if that helps with training. 5 second freeze sounds pretty awesome, and 5 digit Flamethrower damage on neutral monsters would be pretty useful as a fast mob finisher.

Has anyone found Wrath/Hypnotize to be very useful? Wrath is helpful at Pap but MW would definitely help more.

Hmmm it doesnt look like you boss to much other wise i would have said Rapid fire for sure, if you train in parties(where theres MW liek a skpt usually) then i would say go with elemental boost i found this skill to be amazing i can hit over 15K's on skeles(neutral) with maxed fire and 13-14K with lvl 26 ice its a great skill to help speed things up when mobbing cause you probally 2-3hko with torpedo and if your gonna use an ice strike it casts a lot faster then torp can (similar to very strong i/l mages using lightning then ice strike on gobbies when they were best exp cause of casting speed, but if your soloing i would say get to at least 9 mw then work on some elemental boost

P.S. why doesnt anyone like Rapid fire<,< it kills faster then mobbing with fire and ice >.>
and my skills are like this atm
    At level 176:
    30 Cannon
    30 Torpedo
    12 Air Strike
    20 Bullseye
    10 Ship
    30 Rapid Fire
    20 Elemental Boost
    0 Hypnotize
    0 Wrath of the Octo
    19 MW
Currentally lvling air strike -> 30 thennnn i will probally go 1 hypnotize and max out octo

cause a friend of mine got hypno and said its more of a novelty skill than useful

and u can feel free to buddy me(both in bera) if you wish to converse more

Rapid Fire doesn't kill faster than Fire/Ice. When my ship breaks I use Air Strike + Burst Fire mostly, but I still use Fire/Ice on mobs. Fire/Ice outdamages Burst Fire on mobs. Rapid Fire is barely 50% stronger than Burst Fire when spamming; Maxed Elemental Boost increases the damage of Fire/Ice by 150%.

I never use Rapid Fire when training because you can't use it in midair, and jump/recoiling while using Burst Fire is far superior to walk-RFing, especially when you have less than 110% speed (can't Dash while RF-ing obviously). Also I might actually need to expand my inventory to hold bullets. Right now I get by with 7 sets, which lasts over 4 hours.

So I think it's mostly between MW and Boost. How much of a difference does MW make when soloing?

A neat trick I found is that Rapid Fire works slightly differently than Hurricane. Arrows cannot be shot in the air, so when you jump Hurricane you see a whole lot of flashy nothing. However, if you jump Rapid Fire you continue to shoot bullets in the air. I've found this great for approaching and getting around. Though I do agree there are a few situations where I wish I could use Bust Fire. Even so, I give a huge endorsement to Rapid Fire, especially if you HT often (it's easy to keep your boat alive at Zak).

You said somewhere else (I think sleepywood) that you solo a lot, right? I was able to 2HKO the monsters in Oblivion 2 fairly consistently around the time Hammers came out. I train with someone that has SE, so that helped a lot; but needless to say I don't think I would have 2hko'd at all without MW. As for "how much" of a boost it is, just take it at face value. It'll be pretty much 10% more damage after everything is accounted for, and that's nothing to sneeze at.

I personally am thinking of doing Air Strike next, then Octo. I'll ask more about it later, but Octo is pretty awesome. So is Air Strike and Boost. So many good skills, so little SP!

I know you can jump-RF, but I mostly use Burst Fire to whittle down enemy HP while recoiling from mob to mob and as a finisher, and Cannon/Torpedo for everything else. BMs usually have 130 to 140 speed and don't have movement skills like Dash, Wings, and Recoil; so they're going to be walking or jumping to move around anyway.

I've never HTed and I don't plan on doing it in the near future (not until I'm level ~180 and I own a computer that doesn't lag even while Zakking on the lowest graphic settings with everything else closed), so that's irrelevant for me.

I don't think I'm even close to 2hkoing at Oblivion 2. My unbuffed max damage range is still 4250. How much damage do you need to 2hko consistently there?

  9. Default

I would say go with MW. It'll help out a lot if you have to solo, plus (idk how your stats are set up) it could help with trying to equip reverse/timeless and lowering base str. Those reverse gloves can be really helpful with the chance of getting 15dex clean on them. That would also help out when trying to 2hko at oblivion (unless you already have some amazingly godly gloves).

EDIT: At above. My range is over 5k (around 5400 I think) when buffed and I still cant 2hko Oblivion 2 monsters 100%. I 2hko them about 10% of the times I do. =\

I played with my calculator a bit. It's something like 6k after buffs (max range).

I guess, since you have max Air Strike and don't boss, you could get by without Rapid Fire. Octo is pretty much *only* good for bossing, so that should be nearly last for you. I'd say MW, Boost, Rapid, Octo, Hypno.

While we're on the topic of Corsair skill builds, I'm going to be maxing Torpedo in 3 levels, which will be at level 152. I've been debating on what to max next, Air Strike or Rapid Fire.

    These are my current skills:

    30 Battleship Cannon
    21 Battleship Torpedo
    20 Bullseye
    10 Battleship
    5 Rapid Fire
    1 Aerial Strike
    1 Elemental Boost
    1 Hypnotize
    1 Wrath of the Octopi
    0 Maple Warrior

I was going to max Rapid Fire next. However, I don't boss that often aside from the occasional Pap or Anego. Rapid Fire would be good for when ship breaks during training, but recently I've been considering Air Strike. I didn't max Flamethrower in 3rd job so I don't have any good mob attacks once ship breaks, which is why I've been leaning towards Air Strike.

I solo Oblivion 4 quite often, and I use my level 1 Air Strike to mob them for Torpedo. Max Air Strike would take quite a chunk of their HP off, allowing me to finish them off in fewer Torpedo hits.

Almost everyone seems to be against Air Strike before Rapid Fire though (much like myself in the past). However, the more I think about it, the better Air Strike seems to be. Should I go ahead and max it after Torpedo?

Imo, I think AS is only good if it does enough damage to kill stuff relatively fast. When I had to make that choice, leveling was easy so now i'm sitting at 178 with 25 AS, max RF, and 10 points [lol mw30]

The only other skill I really want atm is boost. Plus the fact I have 4~5 eboost30 books to use.

  13. Default

Do *not* think of Air Strike as another mob attack because it can only be used every 6 or 7 seconds. It's a utility to help you in other ways, it's hardly a primary attack. If you didn't max Flamethrower (tsk tsk), then I suggest Rapid Fire for generally faster off-boat killing. It really does make quite a difference.

It seems good. Have you made a cygnus yet? you can easily make up 3 attack by spending a day on a cygnus char, and by doing so, making the ATT lose from MoN-to-HTP less of an issue.

I personally would go with a lvl 100 overall, since its cheaper to make, and easier as well (no stones+scales ). 88 DEX without the overall, 81 wiithout overall + shoes. You ca get ~8~12 more dex from your helm, possibly more if hammered, as well as getting more out of the earrings if hammered. With the helm still clean, it should be easy to get the 19 dex needed to wear a lvl 100 overall without shoes (i can tell you wanted 110 for 3 maker slots im guessing). From there, it should be easy(ish) to get another 20 dex onto the overall, making enough to use the Reverse Shoes, as well as an equinox, while still using an MoN.

Idk, should ask a stathead (one who likes damage calcing :o) to see what gives you a better damage output.

I'm currently in a bit of a dilemma with my shoes. I have 18 stat Blue Pageant (Level 80 Shoes) and two Shoe Jump GM scrolls that I was going to use on the shoes' hammer slots. This would make them 22 stats, which is slightly better than 4 atk Facestompers at my level (with Cider).

However, I'm not sure if it's worth using such expensive scrolls on class-specific shoes. Should I just get some Facestompers and hammer those? The only problem is I can't afford anything better than 3 Dex/2 Atk FS.

  16. Default

Facestompers are really not worth it unless chaos'd. 2 att 3 dex FS are pretty worthless (in terms of damage-boosting value).

Ah yes. I estimate an average of 8 DEX can be gained on my helm. For earrings, I'm not sure about hammering; I like having Leaf Earrings. I guess I can make it up by getting points for a Black Belt. So in reality that's about 13 DEX.

    *20 + 33 (projected average for helm) + 16 + 10 + 1 + 4 + 22 + 5 = 111 DEX. One DEX over to equip a Black Canopus without the aid of my shoes.

Looks wise I love how the Black Canopus looks. Looks in combination with usage for the win.
