Chalice is an item of self-reliant mana regeneration and laning longevity. It almost seems to me that it might not be as good as it seems though, since this item was apparently designed to give you a helping hand if you're losing. It does do that to an extent. But it's also a jack-of-all-trades sort of item for caster champions, and we know how that goes *cough*Nidalee*cough*.
I'd do have to admit though, it does show good promise after seeing today's performance, aside from the fact that I get vulnerable to ganks. (Alistar coming from behind? Kill Morgana.) In terms of numbers...
Code:
Anivia, level 6
MP5: 7 + 0.6/lvl = 10.6
Mana pool: 257 + 53/lvl = 575
Items
2x Doran's Rings:
MP5: 2 x 5 = 10
Cost: 475 gold
Chalice of Harmony:
MP5: 7.5 + 1% total MP5 per missing 1% of mana
Cost: 890 gold
Boots:
Cost: 350 gold
Total stats:
MP5: 28.1 to 56.2
AP: 30 + runes + masteries
Cost: 2190 gold
Glacial Storm, level 1
Costs:
75 mana on activate
40 mana per second = 200 MP5
Tic duration: 0.5 seconds
Damage: 80 magic damage + 0.25/AP per second
Assume damage = 92.5 magic damage per second
Melee Minions
HP: 445 + 20/3 minutes (including the 90 seconds of time before minions spawn)
Assume HP = 505
MR: 0 + 1.25/3 minutes
Respawn rate: one wave every 30 seconds
Basic calculations
Time to kill melee minions: 4.5 to 6.5 seconds, due to minion damage, auto-attacking, and AP
4.5 seconds is the fast case.
5.5 seconds is standard base case.
6.5 seconds is absolute worst case.
Mana cost: 75 + 20 per tic
235 mana
275 mana
315 mana
Crest of the Ancient Golem:
MP5: 25 + 0.5% of maximum mana = 27.875
Mana regenerated: 167.25 per wave
Advanced calculations
Assume regenerations are calculated every 0.5 seconds (probably wrong though).
Assume NONE of the conditions change (level, minion strength, etc.)
Assume you can move, auto-attack, and use the ability Glacial Storm.
Assume it takes about 25 seconds to reach a side lane.
Using Excel with the fast case:
After 30 waves, lowest mana point is stable at approximately 115.1 mana. Indefinitely sustainable.
If you're ganking a lane, mana regeneration would give you approximately 330 mana by the time you reach a side lane.
Mana regenerated: 214.9
This is only enough for three to four spells in general.
Using Excel with the standard base case:
After 30 waves, lowest mana point is stable at approximately 27.9 mana. Indefinitely sustainable.
If you're ganking a lane, mana regeneration would give you approximately 270 mana by the time you reach a side lane.
Mana regenerated: 242.1
This is only enough for two to three spells in general.
Using Excel with the absolute worst case:
After 5 waves, you'd OOM. Ouch. Better resort to using Flash Frost and auto-attacking to hold the minions at bay.
Damn that looks pretty decent actually xD In fact, it's BETTER than blue buff if you ignore CDR in this case! I think the main problem with this analysis is getting the gold for those items by level 6, but it's generally only going to get slightly better as you level up anyways. Well, maybe not for Anivia, since her skill costs go up by 20 everytime she skills up.
