No, I will not support the nasty horrible things you would do to that poor helpless rug.

    I want a rug.

Actually, the spending money in my pocket in this last month since I've quit Maple has gone up considerably.

I don't think the amount of money spent on NX is related to how many characters you have, or what level they are. Between my husband and I, we've spent around $3000 in 4 years, and that has given us 4 level 200s: two HP-washed characters, a DK and BM and two mages. The bottomless pit of NX spending isn't 2x exp cards, charms, pets or store permits. It's the gambling and attention whoring. We don't gachapon, we hardly buy mushie shops, we don't change our hairstyles every month, and we only smega to congratulate our friends on important level ups.

Thankfully, because of MTS, I haven't bought an NX card in over a year and the HP-washing I did on my BM came solely from MTS conversion. Although I do wish we hadn't spent so much on this particular game (because Nexon sucks) I do realize that if we didn't have Maplestory as a hobby for the both of us, we would have spent more money going out to the movies, going out for dinner and probably video game systems and games to occupy our time...because since we're both gamers, if it wasn't Maplestory, it would be something else

    Let's test your theory.
In order for it to b e true the following statement must be true for you - If you had less characters, would the amount you've spent be the same?

Just because you don't spend the same amount as others per character, per level, does not mean there is no correlation between amount spent and the number of characters and cumulative level.

It just means your own amount per capita is less than someone else's.

Your true statement you seem to be trying to make is that the majority of expense compared to others wasn't from "necessities" but extras they took that you don't, but to some degree that' a matter of opinion in defining what's necessary.

In the case of an IL for example, specifically a high luck one, getting a 163 elemental staff was considered a necessity to speed up leveling, since it meant being able to 1HKO many levels earlier and therefore level that much faster - And that was only available by gaching and are one of the rarest items in some worlds.

It's a rationalization, but most of life is.

I have no idea what you're actually asking, but the subtopic I was replying to was directly related to level 200s and their motivations and how those relate to increased expenditure.

In the year of 2008 I spent $500 max on NX, in 2007 I spent more around $1000, and so far this year it's easily under $300. I realized that spending money on the Cash Shop clothes is a complete waste of money, because I get nothing out of it. I gear most of my purchases now towards Hair/Eyes, Gachapon, Stores, and things like Karma Scissors, x2 Coupons and Safety Charms/Owls. The only thing I purchase that expires would be pets. It's the fact that the Pet with a auto HP/MP thing turns out to be very helpful, since I'm lazy, which makes the purchase worth it to me.

I understood I spent a lot of money on NX, but as you can see I obviously cut back A LOT. I can happily say in the 3 years I've played I've spent under $3000 total on the game.

I've spent $450 at the very most, over the course of 4 years of playing. After the Cash Shop was introduced, I would spend about $23 every three months to renew my NX clothing, pet, and coin magnet (I quit about a year and a half ago). I had once spent $35 or so on Gach and maybe $30 on AP resets. That's about it.

    WOT'S THIS? LAZY TYLAR?

Srs bizniz: I'm not sure if I regret blowing all my money on Maple. Sure, I enjoyed it, but it could have been better used However, it could have been used in a lot worse of ways, as well.

maple is one of the cheapest ways to spend money out there.. thikn about it.. eos spent several thousands of dollars over like 2 years... when you work that out its next to nothing in the grand scheme of entertainment. A 2 hour movie will run ya upwards of 5 bucks an hour.. a modereatly well made can run you 60 bucks for like 20 hours of gameplay thats leik 3 bucks an hour i see there the avg per month spent was like 350$given a 30 day month... thats like 48 cents an hour (assuming no sleep/work) lets be realistic and say the game was played for... 8 hours a day (looks @ level) your still only talking like 1 dollar and 50 cents an hour...

it's an amazing way to use money and you really get your moneys worth for the cost, now.... if you can show me something else you can do for 8 hours a day for 2+ years that is as fun and costs less then a 12 bucks a day (don't even mention WoW ppl buy gold in that >.>) lemme know..

That's why you amass 25.9k HP like my Dark Knight. If you need a pet at that point, you need help.

and a grand total of $1700 on MapleSEA. (for two years)

    It is in my case.

I've bought a few items with NX over the years
    - NX hair/eyes
    - NX clothes
    - pets (and pet items)
    - inventory expansion
    - some gachapon with Maple Points from events
    - weddings (paid for 1 with $, 1 with MTS)

The first 4 are character dependent - I make a new character, I need more. My Paladin has a Panda and a Rudolph, my DK has a Monkey (and a Turkey that I got free), my NL has a Brown Puppy. It's around level 50-60 that I typically get them - when the speed of looting vs. the total amount looted vs. the training exp/hour balances out and it's affordable and useful. (a pet is pretty freakin nice at Jr. Newties on a ranged class)
On the other hand, I don't buy concurrent pet equips. If my Paladin has a looting pet, my NL doesn't. So I guess in that sense it's less based on # characters.

With a minor exception (my DK got a new hairstyle when NLC came out, cause I really liked it) I buy a character hair/eye NX once and stick with it after that. So the more characters I make, the more hair/face coupons I buy. I set an arbitrary limit, min level 30 so I don't spend too many, and I don't get them every time, but that still gives me over half a dozen characters with NX looks.

Inventory expansions go with char level too- the higher my Hermit gets, the more I want. Same for Paladin/DK, if I'm doing 4-6 hour grind sessions I don't want to repot. I think my Paladin has 8 expansions, NL has 5-6, DK has 2. The Paladin, being an older character (with Quest medal) has more of the "fluff" that takes up equip/etc. space corresponding to needing more expansions.

I've only spent maybe $250-300 total since 2005 so it's not on the same scale, I guess if you change your look frequently, or buy hundreds of smegas/gach tickets per month it's less character dependent.

If my Paladin was my only character, I'd have got 1 hair style, 2 face style, 2 hair colour, 3 eye colour coupons. Used Reg on all of them since there weren't VIP at the time (I got them all in the first month it was possible, no change since then). And I would have 2 pets. I haven't bought anything for the character since then - it just doesn't seem necessary. So the extra characters do add to my total spending.

In a period when I'm "playing" rather than busy with schoolwork, typical expenditures would be - (1800) transparent hat (5200) random overall / top+bottom (2400*3) pet revival+item/meso loot. I'll get them as fits my main character, and wait until they expire to get something else.
When I'm not playing full-time, I still sometimes spend a little on an event or face/hair coupons, depending how the game goes. But that's a lot less consistent.
