Speaking of which, did EMS/JMS ever updated Supreme for RED?
EMS got RED this week. My supreme character's only level 7 so I can't test it, you're gonna have to ask another EMS player.
@Eyon; Maybe?
It would be awesome to have an older server just for the nostalgia factor.
If cubes were had more availability to be obtained in game, and Nexon knew how to prevent things like item generating/duping exploits, the current game would still have many of it's older players, including me. The edge in the current MS always goes to hackers or big spenders, whereas it used to go to just the big spenders, which players could live with.
I think I'd still play the game now if they were to:
a) stop giving every class an HP advantage that lets them live anything (Nexon could still make money off AP resets for washing)
b) make Gachapon profitable again (remember when dark scrolls and rare novelty items were the way to make meso)
c) stop leaving such ridiculous holes in their coding that let mid-high tier hackers exploit them
d) more cube availability
e) family system/exp buffs became useful again (does nobody remember getting your friends together for family bonding buffs?)
f) update old bosses to be more relevant (only soloable for super funded), maybe adding difficulty levels for things like HT/zak/PB like they do with new bosses
c and d would obviously be the most important for me to ever play again
I haven't actually played the game in awhile, but what in gachapon is profitable enough that it can compare to just bossing/cubing for profit? And how much availability is there for cubes currently (how difficult is it to get say... 15 cubes)? Do many players still train in full parties that include family members? How can HT and Zak still be relevant if their drops are useless compared to what new bosses drop? It seems everything has base attack on it, why not add that to them even if it's like 1-2 att? And increasing stats for the chaos forms.
75 chaos shards (15 cubes, gets up to legendary) is like 750m.
I don't know how i could know if many people still train in full parties. The bonuses from family are still useful regardless.
Like i said, if we get mileage HT and zak both give points to use on cash shop stuff. They do have chances to drop cubes. The drops are more stepping stone items, which is fine since they're stepping stone bosses.
I miss the old family system where u could get self 2x, and party 2x. That would help a lot today. I'm only 217 and get around 1-2% an hour if im lucky. (cut in half at 220) (again at 230)... So 2x that everyone could get was help a lot, yeah 1.2x is ok... but lets be honest. 15 minutes or 1.2x doesn't help THAT much.
Anyone who thinks that an "old school" server would actually be A) Profitable, or B) Enjoyable, are beyond foolish.
It will not be profitable. Old MapleStory had very few things that made paying worth it. Clothes, Pets for the lazy/laggy, and.....EXP Cards? Really what was there in the Cash Shop? There was almost nothing worth buying. It survived somehow purely on clothes and other perishable items.
So many people have Permanent items at this point that the thought of going back to the monthly/tri-monthly (I forget which GMS had originally) purchases is borderline wallet killing. You had to pay more monthly to keep up appearances than you did a subscription for a regular MMO back then, because that was the only way Nexon made money. The second prices are like that again people will go back to their characters with loads of Permanent clothes that they don't have to rebuy every 30-90 days. Nexon gives away so much free permanent crap nowadays because of cubes, because they improve appearances while lose not really that much money in comparison to what cubes net them.
Everyone says that the game was more enjoyable...do they remember what kind of a grind the game was? No one that wants it back does, I guarantee it. People are used to getting 120 in a day, 200 in a week or less. That's, quite literally, impossible in pre-BB Maple. There's no Aliens or any of that other nonsense that makes grinding so painfully easy nowadays. Then second they realize how much of a massive grind the game really was back then, they will quit.
Sure, they'll enjoy their PQs, but then when they realize that they have to do it a ten times or more to level once, including the wait because it's the ONLY thing to do, they will quit.
People like their big numbers, and they like their fast leveling. Neither of those exist in Pre-BB Maple. For some odd reason, few people remember this. If they made a "rewind" server, it will be a failure. It will be popular for a week, a month at the most, and then it will be like the newest MMO that's not really good, just really new, and it will die.
This ideal of an old school Maple is the epitome of nostalgia, I could literally write and publish a research paper about it.
I think you're wrong.
It wouldn't have the same mass as the rest of the game, but that in itself would appeal to some.
There are players who preferred Maple when it took effort and had milestones, even if the extent of that effort was ungodly slow XP gain and crap damage.
Some people like what they perceive to be a challenge and would be happier trying it old school, and having the option of flipping between the two at whim via characters on existing servers and characters on the nostalgia server would ensure it had a steady stream of visitors from the existing population wanting a taste of what it was like 'back then' before they go back to their happy superiority of being truly awesome and godly (like everyone else).
That said, it still has an approaching zero probability of ever happening.
