As far as the lack of AP and SP goes for levels 200-250, I'm hoping they don't remove the 999 cap on stats, and instead make every class have two or three damage influencing stats again. All they have to do is make each class gain different perks from their other stats like Xenon, but maybe a bit more linear than "if Stat X >= Y then player gains Z buff."
Maybe something like:
Physical Damage Resistance = [(Base Strength / 50) + 1] {capped at 20%}
Max/Min Crit Damage Bonus = [(Base Dexterity / 70) + 1] {capped at 15%}
Magical Damage Resistance = [(Base Intelligence / 50) + 1] {capped at 20%}
Dodge Chance = [(Base Luck / 50) + 1] {capped at 20%}
Overall Damage = [weapon multiplier * (4*main stat + 3*secondary stat + both other stats) * (attack / 100)]
And that's just something I'd come up with off the top of my head! I'm sure the development team could come up with something far more creative than that.
You still get AP past level 200

Watching videos like these, reminds me that it would still be the same old grind..which is resulting in my not caring so much about this. At first I was excited, but I don't think I have it in me to attempt 250. I am however really excited to watch the race to 250 in GMS!

This is a most interesting and unexpected turn of events. After a nearly two year hiatus from this game in which I told myself I would abandon it for good, I find myself contemplating a return.
I can guarantee you this "race" will not take years. In a couple months a new area (Future perion,even?) will come out and make levelling muuuuch faster, not to mention 5th jobs on the rise.
I think you are seriously underestimating the amount of exp it will take to reach 250. If they do not release a new area, it is going to take an extremely long time to get to 250. With a new area it will be easier, but I would be surprised if people are hitting 250 as early as April.
I'd be surprised if someone hits 225 by april.
Well, let's do the math.
Currently the highest-exp training map in the game is Knight's Chamber 5, with a spawn of 17 Advanced Knight E. We will, of course, assume that the mad leveller can kill them faster than they spawn, which means 17 per 10 seconds.
Each Advanced Knight E gives 124,671 exp base.
17 of them give 2,119,407.
There are 360 10-second intervals per hour, so base exp per hour tops out at 762,986,520.
Now, let's assume HS, 2x, Mercedes Link Skill, Pendant of the spirit, and a full party of leeches (nvm that KC5 isn't safe). Gotta run out now so going to handwave that to maybe 10b exp her hour.
How many total exp did 200-250 add up to?
I'm sure somebody can finish these calculations before I come back, but if not, I will.
at 10billion exp an hour (lol not going to happen) it would take 43 days of 24/7 playing to hit 250.
Or 129 days at 8 hours of grinding per day. So 4 months.
But what about the exp penalty for being over the enemies level range? By 210 at least (I can't remember what the level range is) you will be getting far less experience than that, and also you will outlevel the high level content they are releasing too.
(I'm guessing that the level penalty does apply to the cygnus areas, but with the cap being 200 nobody has ever hit the penalty)
Ahhh I see, thanks for pointing that out.
