Playing Mercedes
Help can come from the strangest of places. In an era when a former general of the Black Mage fights alongside the Resistance and a new hero emerges from the wreckage of ship, a new hope arises as another of the five great heroes who once defeated the Black Mage returns. Mercedes, the queen of the elves, wakes from her long sleep to once again battle Maple Worlds greatest enemy.
The City Frozen in Time
Mercedes story begins during the last great struggle against the Black Mage. You will awaken in a burning field just after the Mages defeat. Near you is the great dragon Afrien and his cold, still friend Freud. Afrien tells you that the Mage has been defeated but as his last act, he threw out a curse that would seal all of the heroes who fought him. This is worse news for Mercedes than for the other heroes, as the elves mystical connection with one another means that all of her people will be sealed when she is
You return to Elluel only to find that the curse has already claimed most of your people. A discussion with the elves Elder Council leads to a decision to seal off the city so that the city is safe as long as the curse lasts. Once this is done, you will let yourself be taken by the curse and sleep until it finally wears off. Centuries later you awaken, unsure how many years have passed. Unfortunately, something has gone wrong and youre the only one of your people who has awakened. Even worse, the long sleep has dramatically weakened you. Now you must head out into this new world to see what has happened since you were cursed and find a way to set your people free.
Job Advancements
Once you work your way through the prelude, you will begin your Mercedes career at level 10, with the first job advancement already complete. You can accept and complete the quest for the second job advancement at level 30. After this, the third job advancement automatically occurs at level 70, and the fourth job advancement automatically occurs at level 120.
Ability Points and Skill Points
What are Ability Points?
Ability Points are used to increase a character's basic abilities. Abilities are inherent characteristics that affect a character's abilities to perform Skills and other actions. "Strength," for example (abbreviated STR) affects the amount of damage a character inflicts when striking a monster with a melee attack. The most important abilities for a particular class are sometimes referred to as their "primary attributes."
Primary Attributes -- Demon Slayer
Dexterity (DEX): Dexterity is a measure of how nimble and agile your character is. A high DEX increases your accuracy and greatly increases the damage done by Mercedes special dual bowguns. It will also raise the damage potential of many of your skills. DEX is Mercedes most important attribute.
Strength (STR): Strength measures how physically strong your character is. The higher your Strength, the more damage you'll do when hitting a monster with a melee attack. While not as important as DEX, Strength will affect certain skills that Mercedes uses at close range. Many pieces of equipment suitable for use by Mercedes also have a STR requirement.
Pro Tip: While there is an "auto-assign" function that will allocate your points automatically, the distribution of Ability Points is very important for Mercedes. There may be many opinions on the proper way to distribute Ability Points. It's recommended you
seek out the advice of fellow players when building your Demon Slayer.
Pro Tip: If you make a mistake allocating your Ability Points, you can reallocate them by purchasing an AP Reset Coupon in the Cash Shop.
What are Skill Points?
Skill Points are used to learn new abilities that help Mercedes kill monsters or to increase the power of an already learned skill. Many MapleStory players on the Internet have taken it upon themselves to write detailed guides that recommend various character "builds." This simply means that they give lists of skills they believe make for a skilled and useful player and tell you how many Skill Points you should put into each ability.
If you would like to get some recommended builds or discuss it with other players, you can get started on the
official MapleStory Forums. The guide below won't recommend a specific build, but will point out a few sample Demon Slayer skills.
Note: Certain skills will not be available until you reach a certain level.
Mercedes' Skills
Mercedes is primarily a ranged damage dealer that should spend the majority of her time far away from her opponents. Fortunately her inherent speed and many of her skills make this job fairly simple. In fact, Mercedes is easily one of the most mobile characters in MapleStory, a trait that players can use to their advantage in both PvE Party Quests and PvP matches. Unlike other ranged characters, Mercedes also has a number of skills that pack a punch up close. While no one would mistake her for a melee fighter, neither is she completely helpless when face-to-face with a foe.
Her greatest weakness is that shes remarkably fragile, even when compared to other Bowman-type characters. She has very low HP and DEF ratings and even when she gets a significant boost in toughness when she reaches her fourth job, shell always be better off avoiding hits rather than trying to survive them.

Elf Skills
Elf skills are unique powers inherent to the Elven race. Mercedes will have these skills available at level 10 after she completes the prologue.
