HAHA yeah. i try not to train at the same spots and try to PQ as much as I can/ At least my buccaneer doesn't really use the same button over and over again (though not as it used to Q.Q) I tend to want to do quests while I'm "training" much more engaging than just killing things. I suppose it's more fun when i get to talk to people. Not quite as interesting when you solo grind, but apparently no one does that these days. At least bossing is fun (relatively. Still need to level more to get to CPB and Empress :C)

  2. Default Re: 31/1 - Characters max level increased to 250!

yeah, train however is very boring ._. they should let bosses give a lot more exp

  3. Default Re: 31/1 - Characters max level increased to 250!

I hope Nexon brings back 1 month 2x EXP cards, cause I don't plan on training at all past 200, rather get my exp from bosses like I used to back then when group HT was the thing.

I have to go solo a lot as most of my friends are now inactive and plenty of people keep asking me for HS. After years of RPG gaming and delighting in the various way to enchant, sharpen, crafting, boosting and levelling your way to stomping over bosses or winning with strategy it is a major disappointment of mine that training until I'm going to drop is only the drop in the bucket if I'm going to actually do a challenging boss fight and all of the other alternatives are too easy, so I get stuck between bashing things and not even being strong enough for any boss squad. Add this to how the old PvP is gone and how things are nerfed beyond a joke at MapleSEA and you have the perfect motivation killer recipe.

@DemonImpact; In before they remove the nerf that brought down boss EXP to a tenth of what it was before. Need to level up more quickly and have fun? Boss now and buy NX today!

All of these posts simply underscore my point that this game has evolved into exactly what Americans want these days: entertainment with instant gratification.

Yeah, training for 12+ hours a day for three months straight is boring at times, but you know what made it not? Talking with friends on Ventrilo/Skype. Watching T.V. or movies while cycling and OHKOing a map. Yeah it would get repetitive, but there's a certain peacefulness in the humdrum of routine.

Welcome to life, kids. Life doesn't give you a job for two hours, upon the completion of which you'll earn thousands of dollars and be able to go on a vacation for a week. Life is all about dedicating enormous amounts of time doing much of the same tasks so you can survive, and if you're smart enough, work hard enough, know who you are and what you love and are ambitious enough to get it, you'll find a career and a life for yourself that, while perhaps boring and repetitive to others, are engaging, interesting, and worthwhile to you.

So in addition to meeting some incredible people I'm beyond glad to still call great friends today, grinding to 200 on MapleStory when it actually took time and effort taught me a few other indispensable life lessons: patience, resolve, and the humble understanding that to accomplish something truly great and impressive in this world, be it on a virtual pedestal or worthy of a Nobel Prize, it takes tremendous amounts of time, effort, and dedication. You can't just call it "boring" and give up after two hours, unless your desired destination is nowhere.

This is what I was thinking when it was shown to me, but my guildy was anxious about it so I figured it doesn't hurt to check.

Admittedly, I rather like the name "Sharpshooter" for Crossbowmen.

I like to keep my gaming life separate from my actual life. Outside of games, I an incredibly patient. I know that you reap what you sow and that you can't grow delicious fruits without a ton of hard work. The days where I can pour 4+ hours into a game on a daily basis are gone. In the little spare time that I have, I'd like to be productive to take something away. Like Curtiss said, I draw the line at grinding on MS because it doesn't pay out. It's not because I want instant gratification, it's because I dread the tedium and I know that there's not much waiting for me even at a high level. I respect that you can find enjoyment out of grinding, but not everyone feels the same.

Except I pointed out that I'm perfectly capable of spending hours and even days on end on the things that I like which give me a sense of accomplishment, such as studying the basics of layout making to an extent that I'm pleased with my results and can make sure it doesn't screw up in other browsers. Like I said, it's fine that you and other people consider level 200 to be an achievement worth training for because I do recognize that as an accomplishment even when it's much easier to do nowadays but I'm not going to pretend for one second that I find the path there anything less than boring because I'm used to working for my accomplishments in other ways such as looking up databases, checking source codes and experimenting while Maple Story's formula has always been 'More damage, 2x EXP, cash, time and perhaps friends'.

Also, you acknowledge that it can get boring and not all of us have the privilege of having so many buddies that we can always be training and talking and while that works for you all I need is conversation to basically put a halt to any kind of training I'm going to be doing because I'm far more interested in that. My point is you really can't look at the opinions of others and just generally say that people don't try if they're saying something is boring.

I know that feel. Arcane Lancer sounds like a pretty sick name for Dark Knights.

So this basiler took the class trees from here and the top of the notice from here. Changed the date with copy-paste and edited the 250 out of COMING SOON (easily done in MSPaint using copy-paste or expanding selection to right or left).

    Besides,
    1. Why would kMS use the same headline and layout for 5th job announcement?
    2. Why would they use character trees IN ENGLISH and the exact same ones used in GMS official site?
    3. Why doesn't google image search bring up any results outside this image in basil?

Interestingly the Korean headline is still the same as in 250 cap announcement.

Obviously fake, but it was just as obvious to me that basilers including Mr.Basil would think it's totally legit

Please. The fact that you found a point to the game (ranks, levels, routine, whatever) and a way to make the game satisfactory/entertaining to you (in the form of friends etc) does not make everyone else who does not find joy in spending considerable amounts of time gaining levels senselessly (as it was way back then) or get themselves ranking spots - lazy or failures in life.

The point of the game is to entertain the user. If the player does not find any entertainment value to the game, then there's no entertaining value for them and therefore no point in spending time playing it. Period. Nothing more, nothing less.

I'm an old player and I have many fond memories of the game. I found the time spent playing it worth it because I valued the social aspect and the grind "challenge" of the game. But you cannot for the life of me convince me that grinding 23 hours a day (20 of which were spent standing in a corner recovering mp/hp because pineapple potions were expensive) was fun. No Jose. It wasn't fun, it didn't make me gain universal wisdom nor did I gain unshakeable willpower. It wasn't "fun" back then and while now it is more rewarding, it does not automatically mean it is any more fun today. (Again, it depends on the entertainment value the game provides in the eyes of a specific user)

On the other hand, a newbie that looks at these insane "Old MapleStorydawg" stories might just convince me that I was insane and that the majority of the old players needed some form of psychiatric help.

Seriously. Sometimes I look at these "veteran Maplestory player" posts and I can only see someone trying to justify their time spent playing the game. Trying to find a hidden meaning to it when the answer is that it was just fun.

-Yes. My English is not very good looking.

Yeah just go ahead and generalize everyone in KMS, GMS, JMS, etc as lazy pimentos who don't have any patience for anything, that'll get your point across right?

So, in summary, "kids", life is work 100%, and if you desire anything outside of the feeling of being at work or doing something that has no joy in it, you're a pineappleing immature piece of pomegranate and you need to learn FrozNite's life lessons or you're not ready for life, bro. LIFE. MAPLESTORY IS LIFE.

  14. Default Re: 31/1 - Characters max level increased to 250!

Of course you aren't going to find a purpose in leveling now. Maple removed the purpose of levels for a reason. To make money off all the new characters and cubes that they released. How can they get someone to play a new character if it takes months to get to 200? Back then leveling had a purpose not only for prestige. We worked hard because bossing required it. We had to do bosses Cooperatively. With a group of 20-30 people bosses took 1-5 hours depending on the group of people and we actually had to have a strategy because we didn't have wheels. I ran the khaini ht runs back then as well as ran for other peoples runs because i was an important part of the runs. As an organizer i picked the cream of the crop of legit and trustable players because we actually had to cooperate and have a system to spread our prize. You had to be useful and if you weren't a certain level you would not be able to hit the boss at all. With more levels came more hp also this is essential because back then ht could do about 10k damage in magic attacks and 15k physically unless you were a bishop in charge of seduce like me who could take 35k damage from the tail you were to avoid it.

As far as our crazy old school stories you will never be able to understand. We are not denying that it wasn't fun. It was obviously very fun and i would love to relive it but that is impossible. The only reason i started posting was to justify why every old school player had the right to be upset about losing there hard work (rank) over the course of 3 years with nothing to show for it. At least it was fun and that is all that matters. I bet you would be slightly upset too if you spent 3 years doing something that people can now accomplish in a week or 2 at most.

Here is your maple of now. Create over powered new character > Create char specific weapons > have players buy nx to get cubes > nerf character > repeat.

This is probably how the level cap is going to turn out. Create new level cap > make bosses harder so that level 250 is essential > make people buy 2x exp > make level 250 easier to achieve > create more new chars > repeat everything all over again.

Back then we had group bossing, competition, nobody had reached 200 yet and it was unattainable so it was a great accomplishment. Long boss runs and some of them actually required a strategy. All of those reasons were good enough to level up. Now because level 200 can be obtained so easy and that you no longer have to worry about your damage because of the broken potential system it's just not worth it so i don't blame any of you. When we played we only played with one character most of us anyway not including myself. It was great contributing to both of my characters and i would say it was all worth it. It's just sad how much the game has changed to the extent that levels don't matter anymore. It would have been nice to pick up a sport back then in high school but other than that the friends alone made my time worth it and the memories are a bonus even if they get harder to remember.

I apologize if i have insulted anyone and this will be the last time i post. If you have anything else to say feel free to inbox me.

I think there is no purpose to leveling because I'm not the type to merchant like no tomorrow or spend hundreds of dollars for the equipment needed to pull my weight in high level boss runs. 6-7 years ago, I endured the grind because I believed MapleStory was getting somewhere. After all this time, we hardly have any high level content that can be enjoyed by every player. You can't be enthusiastic about a means to an end when the end is empty. Maybe that will change somewhere down the line but until that happens, I can't justify spending time doing any sort of grinding.

Things change and things become obsolete. When the next set of Pokemon games come out, for example, I won't feel cheated. I enjoyed my time with the 5th gen, and I will have fun building off of what I already established (assuming compatibility between the 5th and the 6th gen). If I cared about MS anymore, I'd do the same. I can't fathom for the life of me why many people are under the impression that a level cap increase will erase the hard work of accomplished Maplers. If you hit 200, then that's that. You've done it. The trip there, and the accomplishment itself are engraved in your memory. You even have the screenshots and/or videos to prove it, and as others have suggested, there might even be a separate ranking. If you feel like you're being stripped of your accomplishments, then it's your fault for having that kind of an irrational mindset.

    Wow...

So, you spend 12 hours a day grinding in a videogame, and you call that life? I think there's something wrong there. Mainly the fact that if you manage to sleep 8 hours, that's 4 hours left of "life" outside pixels. And trust me, the unpizelated world has a higher resolution, detail, and actual usefulness. You can use your time as you wish, But everything on one thing is just stupid.

  17. Default Re: 31/1 - Characters max level increased to 250!

1: Do you honestly believe "but most people only play for 2 hours!1!!!" is a valid excuse? Really?

2: If training is so boring, that you are incapable of reaching a decent level, and would rather whine about a cap increase, why are you still playing the game? Newsflash: MapleStory is grinding. MapleStory has *always* been grinding, and realistically, always will be. Be glad that you now get more %/hr at 199 than you used to get at 60+.

  18. Default Re: 31/1 - Characters max level increased to 250!

I have a lv 200, and I have almost never grinded. Except on characters to get a link skill. On my main, getting levels slowly felt actually better. Unless you count special cases like Maple Leaf High, where they were handing exp like cheap cigars.

  19. Default Re: 31/1 - Characters max level increased to 250!

Meanwhile, the only name I like among those I came up with is Einherjar for Heroes.

As long as it's not lame, I don't care what name Dark Knights get, just give me a sick-looking transformation skill that also turns my weapon into a huge scythe.

  20. Default Re: 31/1 - Characters max level increased to 250!

I'm thinking Savior for Heroes, Berserker for Dark Knight, Saint for Bishops, and Master Magician for I/Ls and F/Ps.
