I'm going to go with "Man in the middle", as a similar process happened with Blizzard's authenticators sometime last year.
All hell broke loose ten times over when that happened.

This is idiotic logic.
"I think there's a database leak because I'm to ignorant and close-minded to investigate any other possibility, therefore there must be a database leak"
If there's a database leak, explain this:
In KMS, as you know, there was a database leak a few months ago. Nexon Korea immediately announced that it had happened, and told everyone to change their passwords, providing a generous bribe for doing so. The database leak was fixed. Yet in the 3 months since then, account hackings in KMS have only increased. The people who have been hacked changed their passwords after the DB leak was announced and fixed, and some of them had even changed their passwords again after that. You believe that somehow, KMS caught one DB leak but didn't catch another at the same time, after they vigorously examined their DB security? Or a new one just mysteriously popped up right afterwards? Yeah, give me a f'ucking break.
Spoiler
You're speaking in riddles, spit it out man just what are you trying to say!?
It's not really malicious hacking though. It's more hacking for profit. They don't really take the time to delete characters and destroy stuff.
Well it is Hamad.
I know most of it isn't malicious hacking, but this could prevent a lot of hackers that are "asses" and just delete your character. I say this cause it happened to one of my friends.
So let's think about this:
You have locked ALL items and hackers can't even boom them. "Hacker: OH LETS DELETE CHAR THEN"
You have the character lock "item"
So they basically can't do anything. Only bad thing is that if you wanna move the equips to other char, then you're screwed :(
Well I might be putting 2+2 together and getting 5 but he got banned from this thread. Then suddenly MisterA appears out of nowhere and starts posting the exact same stuff. So for the sake of humanity let’s hope it is him.
Well I notice a lot of items these days have a moveable within account only restriction. Surely it wouldn’t be beyond the realms of possibility to create an item lock that adds that restriction to something? Though I still don’t agree that item locks are the way to go.
I feel a bit bad now, oh well it passed I’m fine again.
Locked items are transferrable within the account, providing they are regularly tradeable.
I don’t see the problem then. You couldn’t allow any other forms of trading or the item would be pointless.
The problem is if nexon suddenly comes out with some new potential tier or scroll, you're f'ucked. I know half my good items (more really) are just flat out untradeable in GMS. I dont lock them because first I dont care that much about his equips anymore and second because if someone wants to spite me by destroying everything I have, locks wont stop them, theyll just delete my char or something.
Locks stopped protecting char deletion, right?
My guildie got hacked ~yesterday.
Good pineappleing lord. Finally got hit.
They went through the e-mail though. Which, in hindsight was stupid on my part, had the same password as the Maple Account initially upon creation. If that doesn't scream that they have access to a list of emails/passwords then I honestly don't know what does, because that e-mail was used for nothing but Maple.
They even took all the karma-able items. Sad part is we even caught the mule it was trading to (BacktoKRA2 if that rings a bell for anyone) and it was barely on the account for 15minutes before we changed the PW, and still with all this wealth of information, Nexon is likely to do squat nothing.
If I needed more of a reason to wash my hands of Nexon, this is it. My only regret was not being able to sell off all the gear for $ before it got stolen.
Already beat you to it, Phoenix. Moved on to league of legends awhile ago. Not sure why I haven't been hit yet, though. May have something to do with my email address not being a 'standard' one, in combination with a bizarre pw. IDK....
My son's account just got hacked.
Only had evolving rings on it. Still not pleasant.
One of my 'mules' got hacked about one/two weeks ago, it's actually a friends character which hasn't been played since shortly after 4th job was released, I've just started using it as a mule this year.
There was nothing great on it but the hacker stole CLEAN level 80 thief top/bottom and about 8-10 ilbis. It was in channel 16 (where all their stores are) and it wasn't on for long.
I have some inactive guildies and buddies that have been hacked, I notice the characters logging back on every few weeks too.
...I'm pretty sure it's already been said that you can't EE/potential locked items.
Edit: Here we go.
I don't know if item locks ever did prevent char deletion in GMS.
However, according to Orange Mushroom's blog:
http://orangemushroom.wordpress.com/...ion/#more-2780
So apparently in KMS(t) they do now prevent char deletion.Characters with locked items cannot be deleted! This is really cool, now I have to keep at least one thing locked at all times haha.
Since there would be no point to this if locked items could be moved to other characters in the same account, this sort of implies that locked items cannot be moved within account in KMS, at least as of this latest patch. Can anyone familiar with KMS confirm?
This means anyone with locked items who shares them between characters will want to move them to their main character before whichever update removes the ability to move locked items within the account.
Will have to ask KMSers about that. I wouldn't put it past Nexon to leave the ability to move locked items around in the game.
To prevent deletion of a specific character you'd have to lock a fully untradeable item (like, say, a medal).
