Off-topic (not dropping because I spent 10 mins typing this)
I only have one thing on my mind regarding the translation: Ignorance is bliss.
This is somewhat forcing an idea onto a fact.
rant
First, I have been so utterly disappointed with vMS's translation that I refuse to EVER try playing it. Translation is there to help you understand the gameplay, the plot, which is essentially the core of most, if not all, RPGs.
Just because the majority of the community are ignorant teenage kids who can't tell 'than' from 'then' doesn't mean the adults doing a business need not give a pomegranate to what they do.
Aufheben may be challenging to pronounce for those who have little/no knowledge in terms of German language. But let me ask you, why are there words like katana, ramen, samurai, valkyrie, Hell, Hades, Titan, etc.. being widely used despite the obvious fact that even larger a proportion of the community know pomegranate about Japanese/Norwegian/Greek? The point in translating one piece of text from a foreign language is to help the local users understand the meaning of the context. Auf Haven? Yeah right, okay..
What did you know about Zakum? Papulatus? Yeti? Golem? Would you have known about any tiny piece of those cultures had it not been for MapleStory's translation (and elsewhere, wherever translation is respected enough)? Now I would laugh if they named Fire Bain as Yeti instead, because translations don't matter, 90% of the community are kids who won't be able to google up the meanings, given that they have the curiosity it takes anyway.
I generally don't give much of a thought as to what MSEA/Softnyx does. I lost all expectations, if any was left, when I read the 3 paragraphs that described the 3 races. It was the introduction, the teaser, the first and foremost thing one would read about whatever the *#&$ he's about to play, and it was an utter disappointment, to me.
Trust me, guys, this guy's right.
Translations DO matter. When you're doing a quest you HAVE to do because it gives you an Aran skill, and you don't even understand what you have to do, it really sucks. Maybe some people don't even read quest text, but, not only will people who do that be highly penalized because some won't be able to understand, but even people who don't, will still have to read at least the requirements of the quest, or they won't be able to do it. Since many Aran quests are a MUST to do, you should at least be able to understand what they say, and, for those who care about it, understand what the storyline is.
I'm just glad that GMS NEVER copies translations from MapleSEA. Like they didn't with Cygnus Knights, they won't with Aran, luckily.

I also can't believe how laid back SEA players are about the shocking and appalling translations.
What is so shocking about it? I mean not to insult the people who play MSEA, but it's obvious most of them don't even care about how badly they speak English, so why should they care about how badly their game speaks English?
Please lets drop the issue about lenguages in Maple Story. I, for one, don't want this thread closed. Let's all be friends, after all, we all play the same game.
On topic: Since the elemental earrings are still worth 300 mill to make, give +1 to all stat and have 7 slots (9 if hammered), I can't wait for the major meso sink this is gonna cause.
Are they tradeable? because if so, then the meso sink will be even higher since more people and merchanters will be encouraged to create them for business/themselves.
Finally, an effective way to combat inflation coming to GMS, not like that gacha box event. <.<
Personally i think mass amounts of forging of these equipments when prices are relatively low is better than the really low amount of forges going on when prices are extremely high. If the earrings were a fraction of their price inflation would go down just as much.

This. Plus, why would almost anyone want to buy one of these earrings as it is? You can get a much more stable setting from Altair earrings, since those 1s can guarentee that half the time you will be losing a stat completely.
As for the translation, just drop it guys. We all know it sucks, they all know it sucks. They don't care, so we shouldn't care.
I am more angry at the fact that they created MORE elementally resistant bosses. How the hell are elemental classes even going to stand a chance at all? Its not bad enough that PB gives a double reduction to Paladins using the wrong element, but now we've got almost 4-5 bosses that are resistant to elements, or even completely immune to them. How the hell is anyone but the already top tier classes like Heroes and BMs gonna stand a chance at this thing?

The weapons cost 7 mill to forge I think. As for these earrings, they would be end-game, I wouldn't understimate them =P
Well I don't think any MSEA player actually bothered going through all the real names of the JMS Neo Tokyo monster and weapon item names :/ plus only a few know japanese, not all of us knows japanese so we mostly need to rely on people to translate it for us.
I admit that I had no idea of the weapon names at start =l and most of us only care about the new map new area new mobs new bosses. I doubt if over 50 people cares for the weapon names in MSEA. As for quests, as long as its "do-able" then it's okay for us.
Yeah basically MSEA peeps are like that <_<. I play MSEA and the language the people use here isn't very nice.
Not to call you out as a bitch, but since you're directing it toward me, I'll go ahead with it. I NEVER said 'Neo Tokyo' was a mistranslation. I always used Mirai Toukyou because I hated the word 'Neo.' Is there something WRONG with my preference of words? I never, EVER called someone out for using Neo Tokyo, but people have called me out for using Mirai Toukyou. If you want to be a bitch about it, please, go rant in the closet.
I, for one, am 1000% against the destruction of languages, since I view them as an art. When I see stuff this horribly translated, I tend to rage.
I didn't go out of my way to learn Japanese, thanks. I've been learning it LONG before I even started playing MapleStory. If you want to be closed minded and call everyone a weeaboo like this, then in the NICEST WAY POSSIBLE, the only thing I can say is, "suck it and die in a pit of fire."
I don't even know what a weeaboo is so I clearly didn't call you that, thanks. And I didn't say "went out of your way to learn it FOR MAPLE STORY." I meant the dumb people who learn it because of the awful overflow of japanese "culture" into western culture. Even though what we get is hardly representative of real japanese.
And uh, yes you did. In another thread just recently someone asked why you call it that and you said "TOUKYOU IS THE PROPER SPELLING." I hate lots of words but I still use them because if you're speaking in english you SPEAK IN ENGLISH. You know what makes more sense than calling it Mirai Toukyou if you hate the word Neo? Just calling it Tokyo. People will know what you're talking about, I assure you. And by doing this you aren't influencing the more impressionable members (the one(s) who my post was originally aimed at, who don't actually know japanese and therefore shouldn't be dropping such terms) and amplifying their obnoxiousness.
Though this language discussion needs to go down a notch in intensity, I feel obligated to join in:
Just because the majority of players may not care is no excuse for poor translations. If the translators took ANY pride in their work at all, they would actually take the time to look at their options for translation ("hmm... it can come out as Grave or Glaive... Well, a grave is where you bury dead people, and a Glaive is a type of weapon. I think Glaive is a more acurate translation for this item!") and translate accordingly. The simple fact that half the time, any given SEA translation is beaten out by a google automatic translation shows just how little Asiasoft's translators care. I mean hell, I've only been in Japanese for a month now and I was still able to translate "Aufheben" correctly. Those people are theoretically professionals and they're getting paid to do it, you'd think they'd take a little more pride in their work and at least try.
Then again, even when MSEA makes a new area from scratch it's horrible mangled english. I understand that they don't speak perfect english in Singapore, but what I can't understand is why so-called professionals don't know when to cut out slang and write a proper sentence.

S'IL VOUS PLAIT.
Saying the proper spelling of it isn't bashing others for not spelling it right. There is a complete difference there. If you can't see the difference, you're blind.
I don't even think they have hired translators. My bet is that the programmers do the translation themselves. Anyone that studied to be a translator would have a little more brain to be proud of their work than this MSEA guys.
What is getting to me is that Shikage wasn't mad about it not being called mirai toukyou; It's more the fact that the names were already out there, hell, i've done better translations with google. And Auf Haven......just......fuck. Aufheben ties into the STORY of what she/it is. It's an actual word in german philosophy, going along with the term sublation.
And it isn't that he is saying "OMG LOOK AT MEZ I'M SO F'UCKING INTELLIGENT I KNOW JAPANESE", more on the aspect of that 80% of this stuff is already out there, and anyone with half a brain can do it themselves. So why can't a COMPANY do it? Well, it's for singapore and malaysia, all we need to know. They aren't exactly intelligent in their english. And on the fact of the weapons... more to the point that they're getting spoiled by getting better and more broken weapons. And the fact that they come over and gloat "WE HAS BETTER WEAPONS LA, LOSERS" .
Sarah, you can't completely get the aspect of someone's view on a forum post, you aren't always automatically right about how a person is. Stop igniting the spark.

I never said you were bashing anyone. Correcting =/= bashing. I was gonna say WHY ARE YOU BEING SO DEFENSIVE but it's pretty obvious haha.
Anyway, every globe, map and encyclopedia across the world call it Tokyo, (with accented o's that no one can be bothered to altcode out) so your translation is either wrong or pretentious because I KNOW JAPANESE. I KNOW I'M RIGHT.
Now I'm getting steamed up because you're being so hostile.
edit: for the record my caps lock isn't for yelling, it's the equivalent of bolding. Just emphasis.
Edit 2: I wasn't even trying to start anything I was just venting that seeing people using Mirai Toukyou all the time pisses me off.
Lets just drop it this before it turns out like the other debate me and shikage had going in that other thread about it coming to sea. Just...drop it. Everyone is changing their words and points, correcting them then at the point they didn't see. The translations are horrible. He does call it mirai toukyou. But he isn't completely saying that he IS superior or puffing out his chest at all. Just drop it before the thread gets uglier then it was in the first post.
If you think about it in terms of the equipment, 7m is a very small price to pay for a fast(4) sword only 4 attack lower than the lunchbox. Not to mention it'll stop the peaching of certain people who were gonna burn down Nexon because there wasn't a lunchbox event this year.
who's entire income is off NX cards and small gimmicks
Which they make hundreds of millions of dollars off of each year.
Seriously... I would work for Nexon America as a translator even if they gave me minimum wage... They NEED to pay for professional linguist. The game isn't as appealing with stupid names.
Would you play a game with a snail called Mr.McPeepeePants?
