# Thread: determining which scroll to use.

1. ## determining which scroll to use.

just wanted to check quickly before scrolling, to determine if it's better for me to scroll for attack or str, i'd have to grab my total str (no pot) divide it by my total attack (no pot), and the ratio would determine it, correct?

example:

clean cape, i have 1 w.attk scrolls, and 4 str scrolls, my total str is 1308, my total attack is 367.

1308/367= 3.564, so every point in attack would be equivalent to around that much str, since the scroll gives more str than 3.5, it's the better option.

correct?

2. ## Re: determining which scroll to use.

How much %att and %str (and %all) do you have?

3. ## Re: determining which scroll to use.

if i'm ignoring dex, don't think it's necesary to know, at least from what i remember, this also brought the other question of if i should count MW or not, since it only applies to base stats.

4. ## Re: determining which scroll to use.

Count MW.
I was only asking %all to calculate your total %str in case you had just forgot to count it.

5. ## Re: determining which scroll to use.

didn't, the above includes no potential, it's literally

base+equips+ (+stat) buffs.

with MW, it would become 1452, giving me a 4.1 ratio.

6. ## Re: determining which scroll to use.

Dex is more important due to the kinda huge amounts people can get now. Though skipping it is probably fine 95% of the time, comparing base str to base w.atk (without percents) works.

Generally, divide it by 4 and the difference between your str and dex % multipliers (eg. 1.6 with 160% str, 100% dex, = 160/100, ie no dex gear), and add that as str, it's a better approximation.

Like, my Paladin has 160 dex / 4 / 1.6 =~ +25 str.

7. ## Re: determining which scroll to use.

could you give me a full example please? to understand it better.

8. ## Re: determining which scroll to use.

Numbers are a little off atm due to not updating my spreadsheet, but.

My Paladin has 831 base str plus 170 from gear (1001 total). It also has 242 attack, or 272 with DS on. And 35+115 = 150 dex. 62% str.

So the 150 dex / 4 / 1.62 = 23, add that to the base+gear for 1024 str.

1024/242 or 1024/272 = 4.23 or 3.76 would be the totals.

I'm not currently in the habit of using attack pots, if I was I'd add those in too. DS is on and off enough it's worth me comparing both ways, other classes don't have temporary buffs to the same extent.

9. ## Re: determining which scroll to use.

i see, say instead of 62% str, you had 50% str, and 12% all stats formula would be

150dex/4/(1.62/1.12) correct?

and the last two numbers are pretty much how much each w.attk gives, thanks a lot for the explanation, so, let's run it with my numbers. (too lazy to round down)

1452 str with buffs+MW
261 dex with buffs+MW
109%str =2.09
21% dex =1.21

261/4/(2.09/1.21)
261/4/1.72
37.78

1489 str / 367 attk =4.05

so it would be best to scroll my overall with 10% str scrolls, and scroll my cape with 15% armor scrolls (if i ever find enough) and they'll sort of balance each other., considering my gloves are only 12 w.attk still

10. ## Re: determining which scroll to use.

Generally, yeah. I'd personally go with whatever's easier to obtain in quantities necessary to finish scrolling.

11. ## Re: determining which scroll to use.

well, one are armor attack scrolls, which are fairly rare, cape 10%'s only give 3 str, and i have 12 cape 20%'s that give 4%, so my options are all expensive anyways, might as well go for the best one already.
