I don't see what there is to disagree about. Marksmen have one of the highest DPSes in the game and they're a lot more fun to play than their Bowmaster counter part. Marksmen can freeze things and pretty much instant kill any 6 mobs infront of them with Piercing Arrow. What's bad about that? I find Marksmen being one of the best MapleStory classes right now.
Search Xbish or my comments on this board to get an idea. DPS might look great on paper but playing the actual game it is another matter completely.
I have many Marksmen friends that LOVE the class and the only tiff they have with it is the Ice-Shot glitch that's been around since forever. In all boss runs, Marksmen ALWAYS get one of the bigger cuts in the total EXP of the party. In training, they always kill faster than everyone else I know. I don't see what any of you GMS Marksmen have against the class. I, personally, LOVE the class and wish I weren't too lazy to make one myself, because I find them very fun to play and I felt like a power house when I played on my friend's Marksman. It sure as hell beats playing a Bowmaster that just sits around, spamming the same key over and over and over.
Well for one, Aran's can't FREEZE anything. They pretty much cast a slow effect on the monster's movement and attacking speed. They also can't use it on a boss. lol
I would assume you can't use the one-hit kill thing on a boss. That would be way too broken. Marksmen would be the single greatest class EVER and nothing would ever come to be able to match it.
We are talking about bossing here and how sub par strafe is in 4th job. i love my MM and i will stick to it even though the upgrade is nothing but a pile of steaming monkey dung. you can say BM are boring but their dps is still 1/3 higher than mine at the same level and with weaker equips. dont even go to sairs that do 2ce as much dmg on their boat and as much off it. yes thats how much starfe sucks, it is just as strong as that crappy rapid fire sairs peach about, before the upgrade mind you, after it sairs can ks me on of and around their pineappleing boats.
PLEASE dont talk crap that you dont know about the only way someone would say MM are a powerhouse is if they play perma begginers or buccaners....
snipe is still 10 secs long, strafe is still the weakest 1vs1 attack except for barrage and marksmen got raped in the ass with a donkey sized dildo.
How the hell is it 10 seconds long? The skill updates from more than half a year ago bumped it to 5 seconds. If it's 10 seconds in GMS, Nexon America pineappleed up and forgot to fix it. In JapanMS, it's 5 seconds flat. Strafe may be pomegranatety, but Snipe sure as hell brings up the DPS with 199k damage every 5 seconds. Marksmen still out-do most classes. If you're complaining that your class doesn't out-do EVERY class, you're just being a spoiled douche. Marksmen kick ass. Whether you don't think so or not, they do.
Marksmen are good but they aren't nearly as good as you make them out to be.
Do you have a MM in JMS? because despite the fact that the skill description says 5 seconds, the way cooldowns are done server sided means that there's actually a DELAY when the skill SHOULD be done cooling down, but it hasn't. This makes Snipe have anywhere between 5~10 second cooldown, about 7 seconds being average.
I don't, but Shaddap, a level 180 CrossBow Master, told me that Snipe in JMS is 5 seconds flat. It WAS 10 seconds when it was bugged, since JapanMS got buggy skill updates at first just like GMS, but a patch or two later, Nexon Japan fixed it so it's now 5 seconds flat. Every 5 seconds, Shaddap can deal 199k damage. lol

btw my personal dps goes from 97k to 116k with an avg 7 second snipe. however in reality it is impossible to use snipe as soon as it coolsdown since it is random and unless you are staring at the icon you can not use it every 7 seconds, human error is human. so yes snipe is nice and all but in real life it is NOT as great as you think. and even if i was a machine able to snipe as soon as it cools down i am onl able to outdmg BUCCANERS, MAGES AND PERMABEGGINERS.

Great, but we are talking about GMS, and that still doesn't fix the fact that with all these new equips that add hella damage, and high att potions like apples and demon elixer, that 199k is less and less significant, especially at higher lvls. Basically the skill is getting phased out.
You don't think having the best mobbing skills in the game is decent? You don't think having the fourth highest single target DPS in the game is decent? Try having one of the worst sets of mobbing skills in the game and the single lowest single target DPS of comparable classes. Then you'll see that the class you were complaining about not being good enough is way beyond what is needed already.

and fyi pierce is damn good but in no aspects the best. it has very crappy vertical range and only hits 6 monsters, so arans win on that too.

For one... Heroes shouldn't be above Marksmen. They weren't changed AT ALL there. Marksmen still do higher DPS than Heroes. Secondly, the changes are still coming. Just wait... Also, Marksmen still do a higher DPS than Shadowers... Shadowers still suck compared to most classes on single targets.

Stop comparing paper numbers to actual numbers. Snipe is usually a 10 seconds cooldown. I posted an explanation of how this works on the snipe thread over in the archer forum. and even though we now have 4 second snipe, in practice it is impossible to pull off a 5 second snipe consistently while still strafing, the most I've managed so far is 4 in a row, and that's with stopping strage right before the cooldown is over to shoow within the 1 second interval. The way the cooldowns work now, even with a 1 second cooldown, we'd be only able to fire a snipe every 5 seconds.
and yes, these changes don't make a difference for us MMs.
Okay, fine. Your class, which I view as one of the best classes in MapleStory, are complete s'hit and are completely UNPLAYABLE! They're the single worst class in the game and they may as well be deleted from the game entirely! Hell, let's delete EVERYTHING and have the single best class at everything be the only thing left so that no one has anything to complain about anymore! Oh wait! People are going to complain that THAT class has horrible stats and skills and they'll want MORE for that class! Let's all just call ShiKage a dumbfck for bringing math into the thread and move on to griping at Nexon that everything in the game isn't one hit killable at every single level! The game should be so easy, even someone who begins the game can just press one key and beat the game!
I don't get why a MM can't put Snipe on a quickslot key, allowing you to see the cooldown, since watching a skill load while attacking stuff is not that hard, in practice. I'm only bringing this up cause one guy said that it's hard to pull it off unles you're watching it, which I don't think is very hard to do.

That's not what's happening. The limit is done before the multiplication of damage. So with the old cap of 99999 before, the most you could hit on the third monster is 99999*(1.2^2). The cap would have to be removed entirely for your suggestion to work out. Or increased to 500k. Something like that.
I don't know what the hell is wrong with that sheet, but in my version Heroes are doing as much as the "Strafe w/Snipe" cell, which we know Marksmen can't even hit because of Snipe's ridiculous cooldown. Pallies would obviously be stronger than either of them in most conditions with the new updates. I don't know nearly enough about Shadowers to run numbers with them, though.
With Bullseye, SE, and a 12 attack pot, my DPS is 190336 with Cannon and 118991 with (old) Rapid Fire on a monster with 1350 defense. If I had the new Rapid Fire, it'd be 137675 DPS.
As it is now, Corsairs, Night Lords, and Bowmasters lead the pack by quite a large margin. Marksmen seem to do around the damage of Berserked Dark Knights, but to just one target. Of course, as gear and potions increase in power, Marksmen fall further behind because of the static nature of Snipe. That said, Marksmen are probably as strong as Heroes (or more) in kMS because our gear so much better than theirs, so that may be partially to blame.
From the data I have, the list is more or less like this... (Remember, this is single-target DPS)

As I said before, I don't know enough about Shadowers to put them anywhere with any amount of confidence, so I'll refrain from doing so. I honestly think everyone from 6 and lower could use a boost (with the exception of the already boosted classes), with Demolition at the top of the priority list. I think Shadowers and Marksmen could do with the removal of the damage cap, as well as the conversion of Snipe to a % based skill like Foxxie said. Of course, cooldowns *need* to be fixed.
GMS should just get all these changes now. No reason to hold out on us >_>

Snipe is limited by the fact you can only effectively use it on a new monster; therefore, you can't just spam it every five seconds.
Secondly, the server delay causes the cool down to stretch to at least 7 seconds.
Third, your cool down can finish in the middle or even the beginning (first ms) of another attack and it is impossible to predict when it will happen to avoid this unless you want to waste an attack or fourteen waiting for the last "1 second bar" on your cooldown counter to disappear. Yes, I have waited more than 20 seconds for a 10 second cool down to finish actually cooling down (no, not on a Marksmen, but the same effect would occur).
Fun fact: Did you know a Hero's 3 Mob Brandish does more DPS than a Marksman's Full Charged 5 Mob Pierce?
The main complaint has always been that Marksmen get shafted compared to Bow Masters. They do almost everything the exact same way, except someone decided Marksmen would get to Freeze Monsters, and Bow Masters would get to deal great damage.
So far, these balance changes seem to provide nothing significantly important to Marksmen. The added OHKO on Freeze is interesting. 11.5% doesn't seem like a lot, but it will still improve training efficiency. Just not by a lot.
On the contrary, Bow Masters got a significant boost to their lolprimary mob skill.
@Kaida: The primary DPS skill for Shadower is Boomerang Step + Assassinate, followed by Boomerang Step + Savage Blow. Overall speed should be Boomerang Step Delay + the second skill's attack speed from LazyBui's DPS chart. Assassinate should have no charge or they risk the chance of dying in Dark Sight, concerning bossing. Otherwise, a Shadower would charge Assassinate as long as he can while moving from mob to mob if he really wants to use it for training, which is a completely different aspect from DPS.
My snipe is on the END key. i can see the cooldown. The problem is that it sticks to that last little sliver before actually being ready to fire again, and it is VERY distracting. I literally do have to watch it because I only have a 1 second window to ensure that it's not a gross 10 second cooldown. I'll tell you what, I feel bad for any MM without autopot, having to watch Snipe cooldown, being vunerable while charging pierce... I literally can't watch my cooldown at HT, there's just way too much pomegranate going on. I would surely die.
or walking looking for the next mob to kill or while balancing on a platform at zakum or while looking at ariel and her beams or while looking at PB and his everything or well everywhere.
and yes if you get hit while charging pierce you better have auto pot or let go of the key ASAP.

most likely we all do. What happens is the server checks if your cooldowns are over aproximately once every 5 seconds, since snipe currently has a 4 second cooldown, that means we have a 1 second window to fire snipe for it to cool down in the next tick, less than 1 second actually, due to lag, and since you're busy firing strafe, the cooldown can be over in the middle of the attack, effectively killing the 1 second window under normal circumstances (constant straffing and taking damage, since you cant shoot while airbone after getting hit, and the delay of potting). Hell, even if you keep the snipe key down it will get a 10 seconds cooldown every 5 or so shots.
This is what causes the last bar of the cooldown to stay there so long, as fluffy mentioned
now while I dont think this will ever happen, because nexon doesnt know how their own game works, and will probably cause untold amounts of rage among everyone else who is uninformed. If we had a 1 second cooldown snipe then we could fire it once every 5 seconds without having to time and missing out on shooting strafes for it.
Another idea could be progressively stronger snipe as you level (they just made fire arrow change at level 40 and level 50 so I don't see why not). say starting with 100k til level 140 or 150, 200k at 160 or 170 and 300k afterward or something like that.
I know what you mean. I stare at Octopus to cast him when he cools down, and that last stupid-ass sliver can take from 0 seconds (very rare) to 5 seconds (slightly less rare). It also massively slows down my skele training because my main damage skill there is Air Strike. Fixing the cooldowns alone would be a massive help for Marksmen, Corsairs that use Air Strike/Octo, and whatever other class has cooldown skills they use often.
I still think Strafe should be 120% for both classes, by the way.
Holy crap, I had a thought. Can you wear all three of those adventurer rings at once? If so, inherent crit-classes are going to be just... nuts. Sucks to be anyone else.
Whoever invented those rings is the person who's ideas are ruining this game. They need to stop giving us more and more power boosters, especially if you can wear all 3 at once.
For the record, Bowmasters will get an 86% boost to their damage were they to wear all three rings. Night Lords would get a 60% boost, Aran would get... I dunno. Everyone else would get less than 25% stronger. I hope those rings never make it into the official version. I don't know if they know it, but crap like this helps the crit classes far far more than the non-crit classes. And the crit classes don't really need any more boosts. They're already way ahead.

It's already been stated that Mage criticals affect everything equally, unlike weapon based classes which solely rely on # of hits, which is retarded. But what I'm talking about is how everyone can get a bunch of super godly stuff by just leveling up or making a new character. It's starting to get annoying, since they just keep giving attack gear that outweighs all other rings, like the Miwok ones.

That was sarcasm, they're hardly good updates. Continuously buffing ultimates shows they don't understand the problem. And the measly boost to other skills was complemented by Chief Oblivions being the only ones NOT made ice weak to form a complete slap in the face to I/L at least. They are now also starting to break the balance between I/L and F/P. Pending more I/L updates, F/P now dominate in 2nd, 3rd and 4th job.

Why? The only thing that NLs were the best at was at bossing, now they are easily out dpsed by corsairs, who were the first to be buffed in these BS patches..
NLs are not the best at ANYTHING anymore and still has the lowest HP in the game that requires a sh't loads of money to pump it up...They have no useful party skills other than haste which is useless at most boss...They are THE SLOWEST training job out there after 4th job

Corsairs are only stronger than NLs in their ships on motherfking paper. The ship is slow (and because we have very low avoid, we get hit a lot. Due to its forced 80% speed, it takes a long time to reposition as well) and not terribly versatile. And it can break! Night Lords are nearly as strong, almost never get hit, and can attack in mid-air. And when they *do* get hit, they can move back to position with little to no loss in efficiency.
I agree that NLs should be buffed in other areas, but their DPS is fine. You're one of the last people that should be peaching about it.
Night Lords don't need any bossing DPS improvement if these rings are going to be officially released.
So Snipe's cooldown is no shorter at lv 30 than it currently is, only the early levels are less?
Anyone know how much shorter Pierces charge is now? Pierce would be more useful if it were like a reverse IA with no charge whatsoever.
Whoa, whoa, whoa. Hold the fck up! Who says NL needs to be buffed up any more? We're easily IN one of the top 3 best Bossing-DPS classes in the entire fcking game. If they amp a NL up more than it should be, NLs would be near broken, and then we'll have Narutards running around like back in the Hermit days. Do. Not. Fcking. Want.
If a NL were to be buffed in one way or another, the only way is to either:
a) Increase Shifter % to match that of a Shadower's
b) More usage for Web, change the properties/attributes of this skill completely so that it renders some bosses 'stable', even if it's for half the duration of the actual skill's level
c) Increase Shadow Mesos to hit 4-6 times with SP
Otherwise, DPS, or anything else just makes this class more powerful and over-hyped. I play a Night Lord, I know how hard it is to level in 4th job. But even with that, I'll always get picked over a 140 MM with average gear, some Corsairs NEAR my level range if they have 'average' gear, and most classes. NLs aren't one of the best classes in the game because they can't mob for sh't. But you guys need to take into account that us NLs are easily picked for boss-runs because we're sensitive to weapon-attack stacking. Which means, a cost of an apple in Scania (4m for ex), is 100 attack. Most people will usually make an NL use that before other classes, but depending on the level-range differences.
NLs are fine as it is.
I'm not sure if this has been posted yet, but this gives I/L AMs 25% more DPS, which brings a luk AM up to about 80k DPS. It's a 22.4% increase for F/P AMs, bringing them up to 84k DPS. I'd say that the rebalancing thus far is a success.
Like I said, it's one of those small 'change' that won't affect much. Technically, NLs does have more avoid, because there are STR-Shadowers out there that has points in STR, which means less in LUK for avoid. The only reason I vouched for the extra instant-miss was because of bossing. Otherwise, it's not too beneficial. NLs already saves money using "Drain", having "Meso Up", and shooting from a far range.
Otherwise, improving DPS or adding in better mobbing skills would make this class a bit too hyped and broken.
PS: Speaking of saving money, I should make a "How to get Mesos guide" for NLs and demonstrate via Youtube, but I'm lazy. ;-;
Let's make Ultimates cost 21000 MP to cast, so that no magicians can possibly even use it until close to level 200, without HB. :f7:
The way the game is structured is a spectrum:
Mobbing ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Single-Target
Mages --- MM --- Paladin --- Shadower --- Bucs --- Drk --- Heroes --- Aran --- BM --- NL --- Corsairs
What do you do if you halve the attack of an Arch Mage's ultimate? If you're going to halve a mage's mobbing ability, then you have to buff it's single-target ability, or you'll destroy the point of playing a Mage. If you buff it's single target ability to the point of balance, then a mage will essentially become a hero with different looking skills... which will probably threaten your NLhood even more.
NLs don't need buffs. They're on the other range of the spectrum. They don't need any stronger single-target skills, because Triple Throw is already strong enough, and they're not supposed to have strong mobbing skills, because that's the trade-off NLs have for godly single-target damage, just like mages trade their single-target damage for godly mobbing skills.
If you're so envious of Mages that you feel threatened that they're getting buffed, why don't you make a mage? If you can't give up your single-target but still want decent mobbing, make a warrior class.
Also, there's a reason why this is called a balancing patch. Buffing every class proportionally destroys the point of all these changes.

I'm seriously going to have to agree with you on this, Corsairs does have very intense mobbage. I've previously owned a Corsair, and I can say with uncertainty that it's mobbing attacks are definitely not to be reckoned with. NLs has a really sh'tty mobbing attack, I think everyone on the forums will agree. NLs should be at the end of that spectrum....

Didn't know this. I once watched a Corsair train at Skeles and I wasn't very impressed at his speed/rate of killing. Definitely slower than Heroes/Paladins.

Correction: Bishops are the most abundant class of maple. Followed by IL. The LOLFP population is probably comparable to the shadower one.
In reality the one second charge-up combined with the uneven killing (the ones in the back die much faster, this is only slightly helpful) make it just kind of average. Sure Carlos can kill the last two monsters in the first Pierce and the next 2 or 3 in the second, but by that time I could have shot 3 Torpedoes, be absolutely sure they're dead, and start on the next monster/mob. Pierce is cool (as are 250k criticals), but it's really overrated compared to mob skills from other jobs.
