I don't actually see that many Sauna robe hermits these days. Archers have always had no reason to not use the highest overall possible. It just doesn't seem fair to expect me to throw a 1 in 10 chance of destroying an item that i already ran the risks and scrolled well. Overall INT 60% is over 20mil, a fully scrolled overall thusly has 200+ mil already invested in it. I don't see why I should have to chance it again just to keep it on par.

Everyone is undergoing the same risk to upgrade their gear. They either have to scroll existing gear with potential, hunt for new gear that already has potential, and then scroll it for stats to, or scroll existing clean gear for potential and then scroll it again for stats.

and I'm saying that that's a ridiculous requirement and it shouldn't be necessary. I shouldn't have to wake up one day and find that all my gear is now suddenly worth nothing and i have to re-equip 4 characters with new stuff just to get back where i was. That's not even getting into all the gamebreaker abilities that come on these in the first place...

Basically, I don't use scrolls that destroy things. I don't care if they fail, i just don't want things destroyed. Now, i don't have a choice but to risk destroying things just to keep myself average with the rest of the population. Maker's worthless because there's no chance anything can come "unidentified" and no one's going to risk 50+ mil advanced gems on a 10% destruction before they've even started scrolling it. And 10% is just the best case scenario!

MapleStory's upgrade system has been all about taking risks since day 1. 10% chance of failure is pretty generous considering how hard it is to get a weapon with 4+ 30%s passed on it, which seems to be just barely passing for average (for high levels) these days. I don't think the system is great, either, but the 10% chance of breaking equip is the thing I'm least worried about.

good thing I'm working only on my pirate now Biggrin the hard part is deciding how to go about upgrading items. Warriors have a huge advantage, and we'll start to see a decline in 2-h users :f6: I can see a lot of gear going boom but I'm hoping players wise up and just sell what they have to eager players.

On another note, you'd think with the potential system coming out WE'D HAVE 10x DROP RATES FOR THIS CRAP NOW MadMadMadMadMad

@ above, yeah you also have to worry bout what stats you get lest you have no problem shelling out possibly 5 bucks to go at it again. If anything the best way to upgrade is to just keep makering crap till it's good then worry bout scrolling it as the % stuff is really what your aiming for. I particularly like this system because it makes scrolls just an embellishment rather than the main deal and also scales the damage levels of players quite nicely

I'm glad this is happening as it encourages one to use higher level equipment as you attain higher levels . . . like in every other RPG.

Every weapon attack class using the same ATT level 10 work glove is just ridiculous. Sure it's convenient for merchanting purposes, but this also unnecessarily increases the price (Aran/4 out of 5 explorer classes all would potentially want it).

Yeah, it'll screw over some people in the short term--that's just the nature of MMOs that are continually updated.

And Isaac, the vast majority of the maple population who has a lot invested in their gear is going to go through the same thing. This isn't affecting you selectively at all.

It doesn't encourage one to use the highest level gear possible, since the bonus from 120 gear is the same as 80 gear. One's just harder to make than the other.

The risk of boom is 10%, so applying it to 20 or so equips and yea, you have a problem. Maybe Nexon will have 100% scrolls out for a while, then switch to kMS's 70 and 90? I have my doubts, but wishful thinking never hurt.

But in the end, everyone will look different. Tongue

That's what I'm saying. I already took the risk. why should i have to do it again? My choice are either "try potential scrolls on everything i own, practically assuring something is destroyed in the process, something which will be extremely expensive to replace" or "Don't use potential on anything that i spent hundreds of millions creating and be drastically inferior to everyone else".

All I think is that the existing equipments should at least be made unidentified or the fact that they're already scrolled should be taken into account in some way to balance them with new equips instead of making it so that prescrolled armor is radically inferior and to bring it back up to par will come with a risk of losing it altogether. In fact, what you've just said is exactly why: 4 30% passed is barely average, and that's hard to get, and now we've got to introduce another 10% chance of destruction on it? No. Not good.

I didn't say "highest level gear possible," I clearly meant a general trend of people using higher level gear as they increase levels (versus the absolute use of low level common items today). I suppose you can get an'al and say that the trend won't apply for extremely high levels.

And if higher level weapons come out in the future (as they inevitably will), there will be a higher bonus for 121+, etc.

You act as though the second this hits MS your gear will immediately be worth absolutely nothing. That's not the case. You just need to focus on upgrading other things to replace what you have.

My evan has over 700 INT. If it has a level 78 overall with 5% stat from potential, that's 35 INT, plus whatever it already has on it, before it's even scrolled. that's radically better than the one i'm using, even though i made it with Adv. wisdom, 30% the first slot and 7 60% on the rest. and it's CLEAN. that's insane. Explain to me how it's not worthless exactly?

Same problem with scrolling a LUK shield before shield for attack came out. Plus, at least it's easy to replace. When you get that whole 5% INT, guess what? You can potential your old robe!

"immediately"

As you said, you will lose some gear. Everyone will. It'll take a while for everyone to adjust. If people can get a Potential scroll every 10 minutes, it'll go by fast. Not Nexon's best move, I guess.

just take things slow and upgrade steadily it's not that big of a deal honestly if you were happy with what you had in the first place

But with the rate nexon releases content, that still is only about 2 patches worth of stuff. And masteria is never going to happen, or at least it won't be the same was it was. Losing most of the development team is probably why it's been over a year and nothing has been released. I also feel that someday, GMS too is going to run into 7 or so patches of events from lack of content. KMS just isn't making things fast enough to satisfy the little american gamer kiddies. There should have been a 5 month delay between this stuff and other versions, but it's been roughly 2 months. It's only a matter of time until the pace excels to a month or less delay between KMS releasing and GMS getting. What then? Korea would have to release something new every single month. Ain't happening. Do you at least see where i'm coming from? :|

And they arne't planning pomegranate. JMS changed DB a little, but in the end it is the same exact thing. Same class, slightly different story. It isn't worth much more hype. It isn't collasal, it isn't a masteria expansion, at most it'll be a tutorial area.

little american gamer kiddies? o_o why does everyone have something against america :| (if that wasn't a insult then you can just ignore this post)

And then it gets destroyed, and then I have to get 200+mil worth of scrolls to try to make the potential one scrolled well.

Point is, if you want to have good gear, before you had to get it scrolled well. Now, you have to have it scrolled well AND turn out good with the potential system. As if it weren't hard enough to scroll something that's worth the cost of the scrolls as it is, now there's a whole other dimension everyone's going to have to maximize in. The way I see this playing out, it's just going to be the ultra rich (Sorry I mean meso hackers) who get to have a shot at the best gear. There shouldn't be two different methods that you have to take to get your gear optimized. It should have either never been created (extremely preferable) or replaced the existing scroll system.

that's basically what's happening. The dam system makers more sense if you ask me, as you get higher in levels and accumulate more AP your damage should scale appropriately. It never made sense to have static gear in the first place.

You're really making a mountain out of a mole hill.

Chill, it's not that bad, seriously.

You do realize that niether the Enhancement or Potential system consumes scroll slots right?

You will be able to scroll gear with old static stat scrolls, then scroll it for potential, then scroll it for enhancement. No system is dying here, they're all coming together to make awesome gear!

Let's be happy.

What I am wondering is if the scrolls that nexon gives in this event will be tradeable.

why yes i am aware, still which one do you honestly think has more priority now? My money is on the % aspect. After you have that done then you can work on the scrolling
