This "MS 2.0" is nothing really...

So true, but we enjoyed ourselves because we remembered it was a game, not contest and the two are not mutually exclusive concepts.

GameMX Wrote:1.) Content - Why should I level up? The EXP rate was cut dramatically, making it easier to get to 200 now. But the question remains... whats the point? What am I going to use these new skills on here? What advantages will I gain and what areas or content will need these skills that make me required to level up? As of now, Horntail is practically the only reason. The Squad can currently carry people if you just have a good group of attackers, Bishops and Dark Knights don't need to even do much except buffs, you can practically use them as mules.

agreed
Excluding PB the game basically ends for most classes at 160 after that boss runs become more like a chore and the skills you add into are basically secondary and will probably remain unused in most of your training. My opinions about the "necessity" of getting to 200 are that it's an option but besides the "glory" of getting to 200 there's not much reason to take the option and get to 200 (excluding mount and skill) or past 180 for that matter.

The only"content" high levels (120+) in GMS have is ToT, Leafre, some bosses, and CWK...

Yeah it'll be nice to get to 200 quicker but what's the point if there's not much new things for you to do between 150 and 200 anyway.

I'm thinking they are preparing for end game content and pvp.

Making it easier so everyone can get high level easily and enjoy end game content.

An preparing for a pvp feature like WonderKings where u can't heal unless u have healing powers.

Putting cooldowns on ultimates would make them pvp friendly as well.

Just look at Saint's Judgement skill in WonderKing... it works exactly like Genesis and is still rape in pvp.

This patch will make the game more balanced which will allow more features.

You can't expet them to release new content while focusing on balancing classes....

An the only reason I am bringing up pvp is because, for pvp you NEED balance. And wonderking Which is a game by nDoors, a company which Nexon is a parent of, has a great pvp system. and they are rebalancing their classes to fit pvp.

KaidaTan Wrote:That's more of an inherent game problem than anything else. The small amount of skills and the fact that only a few classes have party skills worth a damn is what causes that. Coupled with what is possibly the worst damage system I've ever seen (high damage, 1 second invincibility between hits, spammable pots, no way to dodge or block reliably most of the time) means that this game's appeal is in just about everything but its mechanics.

Definitely agree with this. MapleStory's mechanics are just disgusting. If such a terribly designed game has done so well, think how awesome it could be if they actually fix all that pomegranate you mentioned. They have a long way to go.

I don't know though. What I like about this kind of thing is that it's quite... easy to play. No need to make an intense potion plan to survive. It's just hit and heal. Feels different, I guess. In the case of Night Lords, for example, it's interesting that we can survive without potions, as long as we can hit our target. On Dragon Rider PQ, it felt good to survive the second boss without the need of a healer, and with a potion cooldown. But other classes should have some depth on this, too.

You know... aside from #3. The same could be said of every MMORPG that gets content ever; What online game in existence that lacks a true end has ever really managed to provide motivation for the cap besides stat maximization / epic boss/ raid content? How do you keep someone who's done it all going aside from giving them a new place their level to kill and grind at and once leveled past it, is back at square one?

Is it really fair to call it nothing on the account of it not doing something ANY MMO has really ever achieved?

For me, the thing that Maple has going for itself Isn't really endgame content, but endgame people:... finally getting to work with the other established end-game players to take down these bosses. Bosses. PQs/raids and perhaps PvP are usuallythe only major draws ANY MMO has ever had. They all involve other people usually.

But i think most people underestimate the value of other people in these MMOs, I mean, i loved grinding in this game when i used to play; i always had friends rooting for me and all. And i wanted to be even better for my guild's boss runs... I wanted to have a pro character so that when my guild or friends on the server needed an extra attacker for the run; even when i quit someone would message me on MSN and i'd log on just to help them out. I always loved the thought of being one of those players. When i think about why MS was worth it it always boiled down to people.

Thats why i think these balancing attempts are win = people are less likely to be left out... Thats why i think the PQ changes are win= some level 140 joining a 3x PQ to help out and getting much appreciation for doing so, and hopefully, the new HP totals and damage formula changes will make party grinding more appealing; cause grinding alone is boring, but having people there with you adds a great deal of value to the boring experience.

The elite mentality worries me though; trying to be better than everyone else and trying to be as efficient as possible: if you view the game this way, then yeah... every MMO will eventually have its well of amusement dry up as you try to squeeze more damage out of your toon and treat people as faceless soldiers to do "professional" runs by eliminating useless players by class. I'm not telling people how to play a game: that's just not cool, but i am saying that developers can only make so much to "conquer" in a game: New bosses, new PQs, even new classes they've tried and new SCROLLS to make players push stat building even further to give them more to do. If you're set on beating every aspect by any means possible while putting the people factor in the background. Then no matter how hard nexon or ANY MMO company tries... you'll end up perpetually bored.

People want to do those type of high enders, but your worry is already a problem. People do elimiate others by classes. The fact there is an oversaturation of classes, and that the balance in GMS' current state is complete bullshit. Some classes overlap others, and the uniqueness between one another is not great at all. So they'll pick the top DPM class, maybe use two support classes as mules, and scrap the rest.

As for limitations of content within a game... that's strictly on the designers. Game design is about using your immatination. In MMOs, it's also suppose to make ideas and things to keep us going. So if they can't think of much to add, the game is pretty much screwed.

I know all too well of that sort of playstyle is a downer on the community; I don't really find it as something to go out and preach about, by what i heard the industry knows americans looove being competitive in games/being better than the other. In the end its' them missing out on enjoyable aspects to cater to their e-peen.

Its just, seeing an alll out reorganization of existing content to be used more efficiently.and an attempt at balancing of long-broken formulas and skills as "nothing much" is a bit extreme due to the lack of reason to level up. I understand the point that its the developer's job to try and be the 1st to innovate; but when a game is doing almost everything the other top games are the task isn't simple, yet far from impossible though: but it doesn't invalidate this monumental change for a 5 year old game. Seeing Nexon working on issues that frustrated me since the day i 1st played such as the formulas and remixing all the content has me interested in beginning anew from scratch; the new maps, new skill balance, new classes i have yet to touch, and new look are already giving me perfect mixture of nostalgia and novelty feelings. I hope it lives up to expectations.

Rather than seeing these basic changes as the outside of a chicken sandwich: it would make more sense to me to see it as the inside of the chicken sandwich, after all, these are the basic mechanics of the game here. Just imagine if we were getting Black Mage content, epic endgame quest lines and all with imaginative boss encounters: but the hp formulas had not been tweaked, Arch Mages still haven't been properly balanced and lagging far behind all other classes and only 3 classes were worth taking to it? Now that seems more like a perfectly decorated sandwich on the outside... that was cold with imbalances, old with bugs, and hard in the middle... I prefer to see all of this as laying down the foundation for greater things.

That is, if they actually have done a good job of it. We'll see.

"We want high level content". Still complaining.
"We need re-balancing of some skills". Still complaining.
"We need to level up faster". Still complaining.

If you aren't happy with this patch, I guess your only choice is to quit and forget about it.

Only 2/3rds of those were actually addressed.
Changing existing content level doesn't provide anything new.

Perhaps Maplers are beginning to realize that no matter how many improvements are made to the game, it'll always be a pointless pay-to-play with no rewards grindfest operated and neglected by one of the worst MMO providers in the world.

But that would never happen because Nexon fixed Maple Story with this patch. It's pretty much perfect.

Changing the areas and the 'path' one would use to level does not offer a new experience whatsoever. Training at Magatia instead of newties at 8X does nothing and this patch is worthless.

So you have not found your reason to play? THen dont, the ones who have, still play.

Whether it is to get to 200 and quit, or to play with your friends, perhaps new skills really rock your boat? Merchanting is a game within it self in maple to some, and some people just love skill systems, and unlocking new skills.

New monsters, new content, changes come within time.

Just because you think this new 2.0 revamp is nothing, does not mean others do.

But if you say there is no point to getting to 200; is there ever a point in playing a mmo? No. it's what you consider fun. Reaching the level cap in any game means the same thing; what now?

I'd have to disagree. Thing about content is that people don't use it. Just today I had 4 people have no idea what magatia was let alone ariant and they were in their 60's. Most low level content is ignored to the point that all the old stuff can be "new" the only towns ever occupied are henesys and leafre at this point and something about that is very troubling. I remember when omega sector came out and how awesome it was to see a futuristic town with people hanging out all over the place, and in less than two days it was a ghost town again.

Then that's bad designing. If people don't use the area, there is a reason to that.

His point is that this patch is trying to address that reason and change it.
I just disagree with the relevance of it. I knew every inch of content and used it. Some of it was ineffective, some of it was already perfectly fine. None of it was particularly new, and this won't change that or give us more variety.
At most it will encourage people to believe there are alternatives beyond PQs for lower levels, but even that's questionable because some people insist on PQing all the way to 100 if they can and never see the game outside those.

You'd be surprised with the ammount of people not knowing most places. And sincerely, I'd like to have some other reason other than "lol views" to go there. Well, cards are welcome, but it gets boring to only hunt low level monsters for them.

Every game has people who don't want to explore, and people who expect the rest of the players to play the game for them. That's not an excuse for the game to not continue expanding.

Then what about the new unreleased town with those new monsters? And those blue ribboned pigs in Nautilus? And the resistance jobs? And future high level monsters on par with the time temple ones?

To be humble, I think you are thinking narrowly this time. Stuff doesn't create itself in a split second. Give them time, as they are already fixing practically EVERYTHING people have been bitching of.
