This "MS 2.0" is nothing really...
#1
I'll admit, I got a little hyped up even as a retired player, but after some thought about it... these updates don't make much jack. I don't mean to rain on people's parade here, but take a look at the game.

It's like a half cooked chicken sandwich. The outside is breaded and warm, but when you bite into it, it's still cold and nasty. No one likes half cooked chicken sandwiches I hope... While the formulas being revamped and the classes all rebalanced... we're missing somethings here.

1.) Content - Why should I level up? The EXP rate was cut dramatically, making it easier to get to 200 now. But the question remains... whats the point? What am I going to use these new skills on here? What advantages will I gain and what areas or content will need these skills that make me required to level up? As of now, Horntail is practically the only reason. The Squad can currently carry people if you just have a good group of attackers, Bishops and Dark Knights don't need to even do much except buffs, you can practically use them as mules.

2.) Skills - Some of these still seem useless. Look at the White Knight's new ability to recover x% of HP with a cooldown of y seconds. That seems useless with the current system allowing you to spam potion after potion. The only way this would be of any use, along with some other skills, if potions were finally on a global cooldown, making players require skill and knowledge of their class to avoid damage and not take a death toll.

3.) Reputation of Security - The client was updated, but does that mean the security was too? Was certain vulnerable data taken off the client and became server side only?

1. You don't need a reason to level up to 200. Maplestory is for entertainment. HT has been out of the question ever since PB was released, and I really don't think you should think of other classes as mules just because they were nerfed a bit.

2. If the new WK skill is useless, then what is the point of an Aran's or Assassin's drain skill ?? To REDUCE pots.

3. IDK.

There should be some encouragement and reasons. If there is no reason to level, why even play the game? People like to case after a reason to do certain things to achieve another. Leveling for no reason rather then to just level a skill just to sit there is... not saying much of that.

And currently, they can be mules regardless of this pomegranate. Read a lil harder. Pink Bean is still horribly designed, and there is only one reason why it's that way. Therefor you can leave Pink Bean out of this til they even try to remove that reason... no one can down that without malicious means.

Not by much. Every minute I get a free potion? Big whoop-de-doo, so much less on my wallet...

You get to 200 if you want, you don't if you feel it's useless. One pooint most people in this game misses is that's supposed to be entretaining, not a duty. I kinda agree about the new content. The fact that they stretched the current monsters to cover a wider area in the leveling process makes me wonder if the will increase the level cap (say lvl 250 for example) to fit higher level monsters or if the next generation of monsters will be the last one.

As for the WK skill, it's tespia, they very likely will change it and reduce the cooldown time.

That what I'm getting at. It's stupid how alot of people try to get to 200 but make it seems, and act as if it's a duty. As I quit Maplestory at level 173, I got asked "Why not just take it to 200 and quit?"

Why? Cause that's a retarded idea. Why take a character with that much grinding just to quit? That's not entertainment, that's a job at that point. There is no point to get to 200 currently. But yet the community makes it seems so as it is your "job". The majority see this and don't even bother.

The reason is leveling to 200.

Well clearly, Nexon is wants the players to kill it.

Then don't put points into it

You're not even taking anything into account at this point.

Leveling is not a job.

If Nexon wanted us to down Pink Bean, it would have had the 1 hour limit removed.

You're not understanding anything.

If you don't like the game, you can stop playing.

That's the only point there is. Monster book (considering it doesn't get removed) is a good way to keep you entertained, for example. And bosses, and killing them easier.

Monster Book is being taken out, and was announced. So that is being removed.

What I'm pointing at is, alot of people are getting excited about this. Yet at this current time, there is still alot missing.

Well, I suppose that "duty" to take after getting to lvl 200 will be that of taking down the Black Mage. Leveiling to 200 would have more purposes if Maple had PvP or some sort of town-conquering system, which was helped by your level, but everybody things those would be awful in MS Rolleyes

You missed my point though. Sure many of those that get to 200 think of it as a duty, but there are still a big chunk that somehow finds it fun for whatever reason they have. Otherwise, there wouldn't be so many lvl 200 in all versions of MS.

Most people I talked to who aimed for level 200, said after they achieved that, they would quit. Some said they want to get 200 so they can "finally quit this game once and for all". Unless they honestly find that fun, that seems more like a duty. Everyone seems to imply this.

No, only monster cards were made to stop dropping. They're just remaking monster book, not deleting it.

Exactly they will probably make it like *kill 200 monsters-get monster card* kill 400 monsters get the 2nd one* and so on.

The point of maple is to get tolv 150 not 200 really, at those lvs you can do aything in the gaqme and have fun killing bosses.

I believe JMS has already defeated Pink Bean legitimately.

Yes. And with the new cap and the potancial system, we can assume that PB is kill-able now.

At the time, they mainly used Night Lords. The party matrix was pretty discouraging to alot of players who do like to boss, but not under the classes they specifically used.

Also, those Night Lords, some of them were washed up the ass... good luck on that one.

Any discovery on the formulas yet?

Using mainly NLs might be even better now, because if they get hit they reflect 1300% back at the boss. A 10k hit turns into 130k damage...

You do understand this isn’t all about skill changes, right? Victoria Island just got upgraded, monsters have been strongly modified, and all of this is going to be a new experience. That’s why people are excited-- they get to experience something new. MapleStory has been about the same thing the entire time it’s been around, but now old mobs that aren’t even acknowledged anymore are brought back into the spotlight. I can list a dozen or two different mobs that used to be good spots, died out, and I never ended up training there thanks to the improving (or ruining, in your case) of MapleStory. And now, with that same concept of improving yet taken into a new form, many of us who joined in only recent years may go about a new experience, which is not only on new maps that no one has fully mastered (in getting around, knowing what’s there, etc), and go train on these monsters that some of us never even knew about, unless we weren’t oblivious. And I don’t mean to make myself sound oblivious, but when was I going to train in Deep Ludi when Stormbreakers were looking a lot better? Right; I trained in our exclusive content and forgot about those vikings and teddy bears. But if some new event like the one with the first major balance patch this year comes around, I get to go make a new character, striving to get that new stupid equipment piece, and actually have a different, more refreshing experience.

But you’ve done it all. Reach 173, do all the quests you want to, and you’re probably tired of the Time Temple or Skeles, I don’t know what job you are. But with this stretch of monsters along the levels, maybe Nexon will be able to add in new content anywhere along the line, now that we have new standard monsters to compare to. We’re dry on upper-level content now, but when Oblivion is 131 for us now, we can see it as 161 in this new patch, and since most of us 4th-jobbers know, Oblivion maps are great. So in that hypothetical situation we’re going through the game all over again, somewhat, we’re actually trying to get to where we were before. And eventually, Nexon might give us the promised upper-level content we wished, it not being the Road to Oblivion part 2. With all these changes, it at least gives Nexon some more room to make good of the game and mix it up.

Also, as it’s likely been mentioned, this is all in Tespia. Sure, maybe the new % Heal skill for White Knights proves rather pointless. But recently, the Wild Hunter job had a skill removed rather quickly from its arsenal. What it was, I don’t know. Not really focusing on the Resistance jobs, personally. But my points stands; there’s still room for change, and I’d expect it. Dark Knights started dying a long time ago, but I wouldn’t lose faith yet. The fact Nexon’s doing any of this, and I mean changing the jobs to be balanced and actually balanced this time, should be a source of faith. And not everyone’s going to play by the cookie-cutter builds. I wasn’t around for beta, but I’m certain people added AP to INT for their magic-wishing warriors. So who cares if there’s useless skills? Someone will make use of them, I just know it.

Not to mention mana reflection is 1000% so lets say you have 5 mages they all get hit by a 20k atack (PB genesis)then that becomes 200000 times 5 for PB.

They removed it because all of the monster levels were jumbled. They are most likely rearranging and redoing monster drops, maps particular monsters spawn in, and their levels in the book. They will then re-implement it into the game, possibly with some new aspect. Would it honestly make sense to you that they would just remove a great feature entirely?

Also, the point of putting an hour time limit on Pink Bean is so you can "strategize". They didn't want people going in there with a hodge podge of whatever classes they felt like and say: "okay, let's just start attacking it and hope we win". No, they want expeditions to get variety in there classes and actually think about it. Telling melee to go in a certain area, and ranged in another, and then possibly move depending on whatever skill Pink Bean throws at you, etc.
