No.

Why can't they just spare the money and buy a vBulletin license, or even use a free alternative such as phpBB...

Coding a forum of your own is not worth it security wise, time wise, money wise and useability wise.

Can't you read, it's an XSS exploit. I think that alone should make it obvious that it has no relation to the actual game (that is, unless you are using the same id\password for your forum account and maple account).

Yeah, I can read, and I apologize for not being a computer genius not knowing what an "XSS exploit" is. I read:

"We regret taking this measure, but because of the use of javascript within image meta tag being an increasing activity among hackers, we've taken this measure until we can verify that it poses no threat to our players."

and simply put two and two together. For us normal folk unfamiliar with internet language it would only make sense to do so. Also, btw, in order for you to post on Nexon forums, as far as I know, you use the same info as your maple account, which is your Nexon account info.

Just verifying DL83 in saying that the Nexon forums use your Nexon ID & password.

As far as I know, you don't. If they implemented something like that in the last two or three months that I haven't been on their forums than I must say that this idea is ridiculously stupid, beyond any other mistake they EVER did.

Try this and tell me what you see: http://forum.nexon.net/MapleStory/login....roupID%3d6

Edit: Also, I'm pretty sure it's been like that for a while now, so definitely beyond 2 or 3 months.

BombsAway Wrote:Your example only works if what you've done is just an inconvenience. Nexon has been completely negligent regarding their website for years now and that was forgivable when they were just inconveniencing people, but now their negligence is causing potential harm and they need to be held accountable, just like you would be if, in your example, you knock into someone and they ended up busting their tooth as a result of your negligence (not watching where you're going).

What I don't get is why you and others feel the need to valiantly stand up for Nexon like they're some sort of underdog or your kid brother who doesn't know any better. They're a big greedy corporation who treats their customers poorly, have almost no accountability for anything they do wrong, and constantly DO wrong. They don't need your protection or your back up or your words of kindness. They'd be treated better if they had a better business model. They need to step up, and you coddling them like they're super fragile only reinforces their negative actions.

I do think they need to up their game a little, but NOT busting Nexon's balls doesn't exactly mean 'coddling'. Goggleemoticon Sure, they make mistakes all the time, and I'm not going to say they're the best and all that crap like you SAY, but they're trying to fix something, and all they get is flack? Why don't they just not do anything so you can feel better about peaching about them? They never win any way with this according to you.

They should have caught on sooner, but I don't think they expected hackers to put java programs into avatars and pictures.

Making excuses for them every time they do something wrong and people peach (there is inevitably at least one person in every topic going AWE GUYS, GIVE 'EM A BREAK. COME ON, JUST GIVE 'EM THE BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT (re: carpediem in the 2x drop topic)) is coddling. I've said it before but apparently it needs to be said again; expectations are built on precedents and Nexon has one of the shadiest histories of any company I've ever seen.

"They're trying to fix something," that's great, but why weren't avatars disabled when they found the initial problem with images? That seems like a pretty logical leap. And it all comes back to the bigger problem of their website being about as dependable as my-pal-the-crack-fiend. There are plenty of secure and constantly updated pre-built boards out there that they should be using rather than this stick-and-mud fort that they threw together.

You seem to have this idea that I'm just craving for Nexon to fail so I can jump all over them but the truth is that I just call 'em like I see 'em. When Nexon does something right, I give them credit, but overwhelmingly the feedback is negative, and do you know why? Because they're never very dependable, and very rarely accountable. The steps they should be taking right now would be outlining what the issue was so everyone who browsed their forums can figure out if they were affected and offer compensation to anyone who was, because like-it-or-not, this is their fault. Almost any other company would do this, but I don't expect for a second that Nexon will and that is because they have never taken responsibility for anything.

You can pat their backs for a job well done all you want, but there are a handful of expiring outfits, hundreds of lost items and thousands in unaccounted for NX, that prove they're not doing all that they should be.

Well, this is the truth. Nexon tries to do it's best, the problem is that their best isn't good enough to make their customers satisfied, or else they say they're doing it.
It isn't a complete pomegranate company, but when it fails, it's not just a little bug that affect only a couple of players, most of those have catastrophic consequences.
This goes for the expiring items, random bans, which became a lot common these days.
Nexon became better than it was in the past. But it's still not good.

They honestly need to reshift their focus, you said it yourself, they are bug heaven. Ask yourself this:

If you distribute apples to customers from your orchard, and you start getting massive amounts of complaints from your customers, saying their apples are rotten, have worms in them, are purple instead of red, etc; Do you continue to expand your apple field without addressing said issues first, or do you go back and fix whatever you did wrong?

Nexon is charging forward with new content; And failing to look back at the mess they have created along the way. Forums have been utter crap for a forever, this is not "lets give them slack they try"; This is just negligence on their part. Where they should be saying "It's broke, lets fix it", their answer is "It's broke, lets ignore it/disable it and hope nobody notices."

The amount of bugs that Maple Story and nexon.net have by this point would take a dedicated team weeks, possibly months to fix. I would almost guarantee that nexon would save time and money, while gaining functionality; By scrapping the entire website and hosting something themselves made in five minutes on freewebs. And that is saying something.
