Nexon Wrote:Due to security concerns regarding the use of meta tags within image files, we've taken a proactive measure to disable all uploaded images from showing on our forums, this includes image uploads, and avatars. We regret taking this measure, but because of the use of javascript within image meta tag being an increasing activity among hackers, we've taken this measure until we can verify that it poses no threat to our players. We thank you for your patience.

The Nexon team

Good job Nexon. First you take away posting images, now you take away avatars...plus the fact you glitched the posting images part.

Sorry if a bit old.

lolnexon
Just more traffic to the fan forums...., oh wait, that's a bad thing, hope they all go to SW.

They're trying to protect their users, I see no reason to bash Nexon on this.

I'm not bashing them D:
They're forums have had problems for a long time now. I use to use them but, now its a rare occurance.

Not a super tech geek:
How does a meta tag even get into an avatar?

no idea, but the first words are

"Due to security concerns"

They're not doing it to piss off everyone

Yea, and the MTS change was due to the MTS becoming a storage. Goggleemoticon

Then they should probably look at the 'security measures' every other major forum on the internet uses yes?

Nexon forums are completely busted. Half the time when you post you get a 404 Error, They tried re-introducing regular users being able to edit posts and broke the entire place for a day or two; Come on nexon, get competent.

Meta Tags are an optional part of images last time I checked. It's a tagging system used to tell search engine spiders what your image is for better indexing. If they were having such a huge problem, they could have just stopped using meta tags correct?

Well, this is a little late. Maybe this is how I got hacked.

Forum images temporarily disabled - 2147483647 - 2009-12-02

I doubt it. Why would anyone target you? Unless you were somehow flaunting your wealth AND you posted often on Nexon's spamforum.

I completely agree with this, but yet, somehow, there can't exist a thread regarding MapleStory or Nexon, where there isn't at least ONE post that attacks or bashes them in some way.

Well, it depends on what the threat was. I don't know much about images and hacking and stuff but I'm sure it's possible to collect data via a vulnerability in the system. So it's not like the user was actually targeting specific people, it just took all of the information it could overall and he could've been a victim of that.

While Nexon may have done the right thing, it's still completely their fault. They're using some shoddy homemade ASP board. If you've browsed the Nexon forums for any length of time it's clear the damn thing is completely unstable and it's something they should've dealt with ages ago.

Forum images temporarily disabled - 2147483647 - 2009-12-02

I've always wondered why Nexon doesn't use vBulletin.
Asiasoft has done that for a long time now.

I actually use the forums daily, and I have yet to encounter any problems.

They're still righting a wrong, and it seems that some have trouble giving them credit for that.

You've never encountered the WE'RE HAVING TROUBLE PROCESSING YOUR REQUEST PAGE or how about topic response redirect issue? I've signed in countless time and posted in a topic only to find my post pop up in some completely obscure part of the forum.

I find it a little difficult to believe anyone who browses their forums has never encountered at least the processing page. Most veteran members there have like 10+ accounts because of the issue.

And righting a wrong that was your fault doesn't deserve credit. If I left my stove on and set my building fire and then evacuated everyone and managed to put the fire out I would still be held accountable for being negligent.

No, I honestly haven't had any problems since I used their forums.

Meh, I disagree. If I accidentally knock into someone while passing them through the halls and they fall, I help them up and apologize. Any decent person would say it's OK and accept the apology, or in other words "give me credit".

I really don't think that it's fair to compare Nexon creating some forum issues to starting a building fire.

Your example only works if what you've done is just an inconvenience. Nexon has been completely negligent regarding their website for years now and that was forgivable when they were just inconveniencing people, but now their negligence is causing potential harm and they need to be held accountable, just like you would be if, in your example, you knock into someone and they ended up busting their tooth as a result of your negligence (not watching where you're going).

What I don't get is why you and others feel the need to valiantly stand up for Nexon like they're some sort of underdog or your kid brother who doesn't know any better. They're a big greedy corporation who treats their customers poorly, have almost no accountability for anything they do wrong, and constantly DO wrong. They don't need your protection or your back up or your words of kindness. They'd be treated better if they had a better business model. They need to step up, and you coddling them like they're super fragile only reinforces their negative actions.

edit: first paragraph underwent a major rehaul.
