Take off your nostalgia goggles, guys. R/B/Y sucks in terms of gameplay.

Think back to when you first played it on the Gameboy Color. Did it suck back then?
Nope. It was the game that addicted you to Nintendo's handheld. Of course it sucks in terms of gameplay in comparison to today's Pokeman games... it's thirteen years old.

Of course not. I even made note that it only felt awesome at the time. It was good because we didn't know any different. I'm not denying it was awesome back then or even that it's a good game. I'm saying it's the worst of the versions. I have seen people that still truly believe R/B/Y is the BEST, even now. Those are the people my comments are directed at.
My general point was that the Pokemon versions aren't "milking" the franchise because they continually get better. I think they've improved every single time. Sure, maybe releasing near identical copies of the same game in the same gen is a little money grab, but it gives you an excuse to play the game again (with slight differences even), which I don't mind at all. Yellow/Crystal/Emerald/Platinum were all excellent improvements over their originals and definitely worth the time and investment.
D/P/Pt -> LG/FR = R/S/E -> G/S/C -> R/B/Y
And overall: Platinum and Emerald reign supreme as the most fun. I have no doubts HG/SS will claim the number one spot once I play them. It takes an awesome series to continually improve like Pokemon has.

Definitely agreeing that the spin-offs, however, are milking the cash cow something fierce. My goodness just STOP. Stadium style ones stopped being fun after Stadium 2. Snap was enjoyable, but a little silly. Everything else...little pathetic or just plain stupid.

Let's not forget Band Hero and DJ Hero that are coming this year too. I'm still wondering what the hell happened to the Guitar Hero: Hendrix title that was hinted at too.
And yeah, I'm going to have to agree with sports games. My brother's avidly played the NBA Live and NBA 2K-"insert here" seroes; and his justification for buying the new games is to "new players", changed rosters, "tweaked" gameplay with new features and changed mechanics, and buffed up graphics. Horribly milked to the death, if you ask me; if that's all that needs to be done to warrant a new game.
Pokemon spin-offs are definitely milked a lot. Look at the crappy Pokemon Ranger and Mystery Dungeon spin-offs, and the HORRENDOUS Pokemon Ranch bought with WiiWare and Pokemon Dash. Oh, and who remembers "Hey You! Pikachu!"? There was also Pokemon Channel. Though there are admittedly awesome ones I can recall like Pokemon Snap.

Which is why I said to remove your nostalgia goggles.

My bad. It just cuts me deep to see Yellow, a game older than the majority of Southperry, get put down... ;_;
Also, Felix, have you tried any of the translated HG/SS ROMs or are you just gonna wait for the official release?

I'm kinda torn. I've been waiting for the translation to get totally complete, but I may just wait for the English release afterall. Depends how impatient I get.

What translations have you been keeping your eyes on? That Kazo guy said he'd stop translating the dialogue, so I came across this guy who seems like he wants to finish what Kazo started.

Actually, SimCity wasn't as much of a milked out series as how The Sims was. From the top of my head:
SimCity (Classic)
SimCity 2000 (Plus all it's expansion crap)
SimCity 3000 (Plus SC3K Unlimited)
SimCity 4 (Plus SC4 Rush Hour)
SimCity Societies (Which wasn't made by Maxis, the group that originally made the SimCity series, plus the Destinations EP)

Dynasty Warriors, Samurai Warriors, and Dragon Quest. I'm afraid the Tales series might be heading down that road, as well.

Only thing I see milked is the fucking "Hero" franchise.
2009 - Guitar Hero 5
2009 - Guitar Hero: Metallica
2009 - Guitar Hero Smash Hits
2009 - Guitar Hero: Van Halen
2009 - Band Hero
2009 - Guitar Hero On Tour: Modern Hits
2009 - DJ Hero
2009 - Guitar Hero 5 Mobile
2009 - Guitar Hero Arcade
Are you kidding me, will you just leave it alone. Talk about over saturating the Music Game market with all this shit. Just because there are many of a game, but 1 or 2 of that franchise a year, doesn't mean it's being milked. This is the perfect example, and people wonder why I like Rock Band so much more.

I agree with Tylar, Rock Band has the right idea there...Harmonix said they're scheduled to have five thousand plus songs available for DLC for Rock Band 1 and 2 by the end of this year. I don't see them making a new game every 5 minutes.

Dragon Quest, Army Men and King of Fighters all deserve a mention. Halo's also moving towards that oversaturation.
Of course, there's also the staples like Mario, Link, Samus, Sonic, etc. Seems like very few new IPs get a fair shake these days.

Call of Duty has become a yearly installment series.
Street Fighter anyone? It's only a matter of time before Super Street Fighter 4 World Champion Hyper Fighting HD Turbo Alpha Third Strike Remix is out.
