Internet Explorer 9 Beta

IE9 isn't available for XP. lol. I don't expect MS to keep catering to a 9000 year old OS but that pretty much left behind all the companies, college campuses and military folks who are on XP on the company computers. Chrome is slowly starting to appear in the computers of some labs on my campus but I guess I won't be expecting IE9 on them.

It's the company's fault for not upgrading their infrastructure to the new OS. They've had 10 years to do it, but nada. As for Universities, they have no excuse to not upgrade. Most school infrastructers are Sharepoint based, which depends on the browser (IE9 has compatibility view, as does IE8). They're just being lazy. Have fun using an unsupported OS.

Windows 7 is barely a year old, so they haven't had 10 years to upgrade from XP. Vista was a piece of pomegranate. Upgrading cost. There, three reasons to not upgrade.

Actually state and community campuses in this economy can barely afford to keep classes up let alone spend money upgrading systems that currently have no problems. Though ironically, they always have money to construct additional classrooms and parking lots while cutting back classes lol. As for company computers, it depends on who can convince the CEO that upgrading their systems is necessary and will increase productivity.

Not really. Window Vista was released for retail less than 4 years ago and it's received so much crap that it's understandable they wouldn't upgrade. Windows 7 was released last year. By their nature public computers tend to lag behind the current commercial standards. Upgrading 1000 computers every year is really unnecessary from a cost-benefit standpoint.

Vista itself wasn't the culprit of the many flaws it had, bad driver support from OEM's is what killed it.

People that think like this are the ones who impose a delay on technological advancements.

IE9 is beautiful. Unfortunately, now I'm stuck using FireFox because I can't highlight text and directly change the font/alignment/etc. on IE9. Hope they fix that soon. =.=

Microsoft creates the driver programming interfaces. If they fucked pomegranate up so hard that OEMs couldn't use the old drivers or easily create compatible versions of the old drivers, it is 100% Microsoft's fault.

Especially since security needs can be addressed at the gateway. Basic functionality is the same whether it's XP&FF or W7&IE9.

So we Southperricans have a choice to make: Upgrade to Windows Vista/7 and use IE9, or play GMS...

Getting on topic again, I think that IE9's most significant change is the ability to use hardware acceleration for graphics rendering. This is why all of Microsoft's test (which IE9 beats every other browser in) are almost purely graphical, while IE9 is less-than-average in computational speed tests (sunspider and the like).

Especially since security needs can be addressed at the gateway. Basic functionality is the same whether it's XP&FF or W7&IE9.

MS works fine for me under W7, not one D/C yet, and that's with 4 months of playing...

For me there haven't been any D\C's but lots of graphical lags. This is not just MS but also W7 in general, it seems to have problems operating my graphics card (and yes, I did install the latest W7 drivers).
