MetaSeraphim Wrote:You're forgetting the people who think Nexon is a beyond horrible company and wouldn't give a damn and therefore wouldn't do a rollback. Didn't see anybody saying that. Everyone knew they'd do something, just as soon as they woke up and realized there was an exploit running rampant (which, since they are quite horrible, took about 24 hours longer than it should have. Or two weeks, depending on how you look at it). Some people thought/hoped Nexon would find a way to only punish those involved and leave innocent bystanders untouched. However, past experience has shown that they can't really do that.

It was quite obvious certain maplers wanted to benefit from the inflated sales of items, while still wanting the original hackers punished. That is also a major no-no. Clearly the lure of selling 2 blue snails at max mesos was too good for greedy dudes. Let's all welcome chameleonic back to poverty. Your wooden fence, sir?

A business simply cannot respond that fast, especially when you have over 100 IPs of different servers. They likely had a meeting to discuss the exploit and figure out how to handle the damage from there. A business cannot operate with one person having a killswitch on everything. Meetings take time. Also, you have to figure that if the 4:00 PM time is accurate, the developers were near the end of their work day and they're likely working furiously on Big Bang. Notice how they rolled last month's patch and this month's together into one patch? I don't believe that was done on accident. The fewer patches they have to do, the more their dev team can work on Big Bang.
Tell me, what could they have done to fix this better than they are? I'm not asking this to defend them. I'm asking this for you to defend yourself. Obviously you know better than they do. Remember: - There is not a single person unaffected by this hack - Prices have skyrocketed by 300% in less than a day - Meso generation is happening at billions per minute I don't see how it's possible to only punish those involved. This is simply the faster method to get the game back up and running, and that's what players ultimately want. Also, doing a rollback in and of itself is nothing. First they have to find where the glitch is happening. They also need to contact Korean dev teams so that they can patch the hack so it doesn't grow to other versions. Then they need to patch their own servers to fix the glitch from happening. This takes a lot longer than you think it does.

@ray: Actually, I was thinking more about people who spent Monday and Tuesday training or questing or trading tokens - or, worse, scrolling and cubing their gear - and really truly gained nothing from this exploit, directly or indirectly.
And, yes, also people who had left their shops open with normal prices, and came back to find them sold out. BTW, I don't know how it was in Bera, but in Kradia, the exploiters were quite selective in what they bought. I looked through FM Tuesday morning and there was plenty of junk (scrolls, 2-lined rare equips, zombie rings, etc) still there, most of it not even overpriced. @Fiel: They should have taken the servers down Monday afternoon. That doesn't take long and doesn't require 24 hours to prepare. They did it last time. This time, nobody there noticed anything amiss. This doesn't even take into consideration the fact that the possibilities of abusing the double-login feature(?) had been raised weeks ago, including tickets logged, and ignored. Quote:I don't see how it's possible to only punish those involved. This is simply the faster method to get the game back up and running, and that's what players ultimately want.I agree. I was only saying some people had hopes, or maybe illusions, that less drastic measures would be possible, and their recent accomplishments (levelling, scrolling, etc) would be preserved. As for finding and patching the glitch: since it's public that shouldn't be too hard. At worst, they can restore the "account already logged in" check, even if it means some people can't play until the next maintenance, as an interim measure until a better solution can be found.

I'm really just wondering if it's even remotely possible to expect them to restructure the way they can identify how mesos and items are introduced and used in the game. Just for future incidents, so that they can easily reverse exploits like this without affecting other areas of the game. Heck, it could be useful to even restore hacked accounts.
But I understand, this may just lead to further abuse, by finding loopholes to avoid being restored or fake hacking just to be restored. But anything has to be better than the system in place now.

Eosian said it's against the rules to discuss how the hack is done, so I don't know how you want us to discuss your post without being banned.

Satellite Wrote:Lol at Nexon shutting down their website, cause they are afraid of ****storm that's gonna start at nexon forums. -sigh- They shutdown all the servers probably to add some extra security measures and all so this stuff doesn't happen again. It wasn't just MapleStory that's down. Everything is down currently. I honestly hope they do some back-tracing and not just hell-ban the people responsible for this, but add some extra measures to trace their IP range addresses and block them from accessing anything. They seriously also need to find a way to work with Interpol and do some international stuff to take down these hacker ran websites and forums and get their games some extra security measures.

Someone said in this thread a little while ago that the hack had been public for about 30 hours. Another person said the hack was out over a week ago but it was low down.

Wow this is later than I thought. As much as I want to say I expected this I can't. I thought there woulnt be a rollback and realisticly there was hardly one lol. I finished up all the Halloween events and from that it was 5 PM my time I was AFK in VIP Suana for the rest of the day. Not a bad rollback at all. Now the Saints are gonna win Sunday!!
!!

Well, heres to higher prices for 2 hand 50% scrolls, seeing as they are not removing all the mesos.

Saw one guy persistently smega'ing for apples, stews, white scrolls, and good potential equips. Those things were also sold out in FM (although not the overpriced stews, 5m or more each). Tuesday noonish the mass gacha smegas started appearing, which is I guess the time Kradian exploiters learned how to get NX from this.

Meh, anyone could have seen this coming. Meaning, Hime's post was stupid >_>.
2010-11-10, 06:51 AM
Hooray for not having played since Monday morning. It seems like it's always a good idea to drop everything you're doing when this type of stuff happens and just not play the game.
I'd like an extension of the Witch stew event, but otherwise this seems like the best way to do things.
2010-11-10, 08:07 AM
rule of thumb: if -Hime- says there won't be a rollback, stop playing until the rollback
2010-11-10, 08:09 AM
Unless you want to get free stuff because they're only going to give free stuff to those who were on during it. Not counting 2x events of course.
