This irony in the responses to this thread is beyond hilarious. The scientists could be quite interested in doing a study on how gaming addicts react when you tell them they're addicted. The reactions are very similar to if you tell somebody addicted to alcohol that they are addicted to alcohol. Further proof that gaming is a genuine addiction!
I play a bit of Maplestory or Dungeon Fighter Online when I have time, but I have minimal interest and minimal knowledge on all the latest games and don't use Steam. I definitely used to be a gaming addict, but I think I've largely grown out of it. I used to get so upset if something didn't go in my favor in a game, but now I really couldn't care less and don't spend that much time gaming. I also really hate the weird feelings in my head and eyes (although used to be able to ignore them because I was so addicted) when I've been gaming for more than a few hours at a time, and the thought of not getting anything productive done all day. My job, studies, and friends are far more important to me than gaming will ever be. Although I do like hanging out with people on Maplestory for a few hours sometimes, whether that's my guildies (A few people in the revived form of TeamIDB), buddies who still play, or randoms in PQ. It is definitely interesting chatting to various people when PQ'ing.
I think it's fine for people to be gaming for a few hours a day. Anymore though and you possibly have issues. It just makes me sad when I hear a smart person is giving up on university/ college or isn't doing very well in it because they are too addicted to video games, or in a few cases I've heard, that they can't afford to be a student because they have a debt from buying computer equipment and other stuff to feed their gaming addiction. Luckily it seems that most Southperrians aren't that seriously addicted though :-)
(Oh, and software engineering group members that don't show up to meetings when a new game was released the night before..........)
