Hokay, well, figures this thread needs a semi-update...
Got on after the patch today to level my new character after giving up on my old one. =) The account was made before the patch, and I still got the potential quest at level 10. It came with a magnifying glass and a scroll. Stupid me, before today, I did not know what the potential system was (I have not played in a long, long time) and do not remember the details of the scroll. I THINK it was untradeable. I'm not 100% sure of that.
Yes, potential system is here and YES I believe that the equipment drop rate has increased a LOT! I was hunting for a little under thirty minutes and found NO LESS than EIGHT different pieces of equipment. Coincidence? I don't think so. I also found an 'unidentified' item (is that what it is?) and used my magnifying glass on it. Neato!
I was confused by the equipment drop rate, tbh. I did not know this was supposed to happen this patch so it left me scratching my head. I'd never found this many equips before during a non-2x drop event. Checked the website. Is it 2x? Nope. It's not. So why do I have so many equips?
This system is going to rule. It means people will actually go and HUNT FOR EQUIPMENT now, like in most MMO's, instead of stupid merchants ruling the game. I'm so excited. I've never been a statwhore, and I've never had any interest in scrolling pomegranate because I suck at it. But now I can go and quest for my equipment (which has always intrigued me massively; I did it extensively in Beta and early MS, and I still like doing it now), and find Unidentified equips and maybe, just maybe, finally manage to get good stat equipment without having to shell out hundreds of millions of meso that I simply don't have.
