This is a totally one-sided perspective. College is not that depressing. Most of this really only applies to first and second year courses, I think. I'm a first year at Georgia Tech and 12 out of the 19 hours I go to class each week take place in those large lecture halls, but the higher level classes are much smaller and you get to know your professors and your classmates a lot better. And that's what recitation is for, to work in a smaller classroom environment with a TA.
You kind of have to go through these classes because there are so many people going to college these days. My high school was huge (26xx people), but my freshman class is even larger.
I've observed the people around me in lecture halls and people wasting their time Facebooking and doing other stuff is kind of common, but you still have the majority of people paying attention and taking notes.
There's a lot of work and studying, but I still find time to have fun, hang out with friends, and go to parties. I think the video as a whole takes too narrow an approach on things. I feel like the majority of classes I take are relevant to what I want to do or what I should be learning (except Chemistry o_o); a lot more so than high school. Our public school systems are much more problematic than colleges and universities. Kids waking up at 5 in the morning to catch the bus or drive to school is ridiculous. And a lot of the classes I took in high school felt utterly pointless. I went to a magnet school and it was still hard to find a set of electives and classes I wanted to take that interested me and guided me towards a major or a career.
Of course, I'm only one student, and I only attend one university. All I can say is, whatever college they did this video at must've sucked.
