I personally dont invite friends over because of a few reasons:
1. My house is a mess. Simply put, its really messy, and there's very little space, if any...we're much better off at someone else's place, either because they have a bigger place, or because their places are cleaner, etc.
2. There's nothing to do at my house. My tv's old and unconveniently placed (it'll be hard to hook up gaming consoles, etc.) Again, kinda like the first one.
3. There's too many restrictions. My sister and parents sleep early. That combined with 1 makes it hard to do anything.
That being said, when I move out, I'd definitely open up my place to friends if they DO want to come over. I do occasionally go over to friend's houses. Their parents are there, but they leave my friends and I alone for the most part (other than wanting to hear me play piano, which I willingly do).
It's normal to be self-conscious, everyone is like that at one point or another. However, it is when you get over it that you start enjoying and having fun.
