Minimum = (8.0 * [STR + LUK] + DEX * 2) / 100 * BA
Maximum = (18.5 * [STR + LUK] + DEX * 2) / 100 * BA

BA is the Basic Attack listed in Venom's skill.

Questions:
If a monster is already poisoned and it is poisoned a second time, is the total duration extended to the new poison?

No monster lived long enough for my poison to act upon it more than four seconds. Despite having maxed Venom, more than likely, a monster would be taking averages between 10~20k from being poisoned more than once. Thus, its HP would reach 1 before even half of the duration ran out. However, I believe the poison would take the duration of the newest strike and maintain its total cumulative damage until the duration ran out. This is merely speculation though. Does anyone have any confirmation?

If a monster is poisoned three times already, can the duration be maintained indefinitely or will the poison have to run out before being able to add another poison?

We already know that a monster can be poisoned up to and no more than three times. However, if a monster did not die after the first second (2 for 1~10 venom, 3 for 11~20), would continually striking the monster cause the Venom's duration to maintain indefinitely, or would the Venom have to run out first and then a new damage value have to be added? Not many monsters can live through 30k x 4 + whatever skills you used to poison.

What the is with the Blue Damage?

On occasion, Venom's damage will appear in Blue colouration, exactly as that of a Monster Healing itself. From what I have seen, it appears to be completely random. Supposedly, it was a means implemented to observe oneself inflicting Poison Damage on a monster with Venom. However, it occurred very rarely with my Shadower, even though I poisoned monsters numerous times. It could possibly be an occurrence of Triple Venom though, as I only saw it when approaching the 30k+ Venom damage mark.

Other Notable Findings:
The following skills can poison a monster:
Attack
Disorder
Double Stab
Lucky Seven
Savage Blow
Assaulter
Avenger
Boomerang Step
Assassinate
Triple Throw

The following skills cannot Poison a monster:
Steal
Band of Thieves
Taunt
Ninja Ambush
Drain
Shadow Meso
Ninja Storm

I would request that the Thief Community post their maximum and/or minimum Venom Damages along with their Venom level and their total stats so that I will be able to review the formula and fix it accordingly.
The current formula should be accurate within 1000 damage though, I would say, which is still quite useful. Just know that I believe the maximum is overshot and you may never hit that high.

Thank you to 'singularity' for extra damage data sets.

What i noticed was if I did over 30k it would heal the monster. At one time I was training at skeles venom hit up to 32k but it was blue and the monster's hp was going up lol.. o.O

I'll test out this formula when I get to go back on MS. But with level 1 venom , I remember hitting 10k. But could SE be a factor ?

I'm almost dead certain that the first hit of BoT can poison, just not the subsequent summoned thieves. I think I remember reading somewhere that stars thrown by SP don't activate venom either. I think the general logic for the skill is that it has to be your dagger / stars hitting the monster.

No, I'm positive Avenger with Shadow Partner can envenom an enemy twice with just one cast.

Think of it like this:
Boomerang Step = 2 * 6 chances to envenom.
Avenger = 2 * 6 chances to envenom.
Savage Blow = 6 * 1 chances to envenom.
Triple Throw = 6 * 1 chances to envenom.

When I noticed that, it seems to fit.

Band of Thieves is a weird mob skill. As far as I know, Band of Thieves works by hitting a monster pretty close to you and then expanding the box of thieves from there, so that could just as easily make it odd in terms of poisoning.

For Night Lords, punch obviously fails to poison. I'll check Drain out in a bit.

EDIT: Drain definitely does not envenom. I spent an entire Shadow Partner using it and there was not a single bit of poison damage.

Oh well, I wasn't sure about SP being able to poison or not. I don't have a hermit, much less a NL.

Btw, Boomerang Step would be 2 chances to poison 4 targets, not 2 chances to poison 6.

The Venom Equation - Avenge - 2008-07-09

drain and ninja storm don't poison monsters.

The Venom Equation - Hazzy - 2008-07-09

Str is as big of a factor as Luk? o_o Giving power to the Str dits. Big Grin

The Venom Equation - LazyBui - 2008-07-09

Oh. You're right, it would be 4. In which case, there's not really much logic that can be applied.

I thought the skill started at being able to hit 2 and eventually went up to 6, but then, I don't have a Chief Bandit, much less a Shadower.

EDIT: Also, it's STR + LUK, so 4 + 500 would be the same as 44 + 460. It's not really a bonus.

Well, it means that a Zakum Helm gives more damage because it adds Str and Luk. If the formula were based on Luk, those 15 points in Str would be left out. :o

No, SE doesn't factor in Venom damage.

Mhmmm if I did it right, It gives me 3518... and I've hit up to 9.8 I think.... (maximum formula) but what's BA? I counted it as the magic attack venom adds... o,o what did I do wrong? Dx

Your 3518 is the max for one poison. You can poison a monster up to three times, so you can do up to 10554.

Finally, a formula for Venom that I seek for ages. TY

uhm... and the magic attack that venom gives... what does it do? look pretty?

It could have been interesting if INT actually helped the formula...

The Venom Equation - Russt - 2008-07-21

And then we'll be seeing INT sins next.

I'm pretty sure that's the "BA" parameter. Base attack. So .. I guess you could say * 60 is kinda pretty. :o

EDIT: o.

Quoting the OP:
Quote:BA is the Basic Attack listed in Venom's skill.

I was thinking... what happens in poison weak monsters? There is no high lvled yet, but on time temple there are poison weak monsters, do we hit 1.5x on them?
