Mistakes in the WZ Files

After being tired of all of the mistakes in the WZ files, a few people from the IRC and I came up with the idea of creating a thread to point out all of the flaws in these files. Hopefully this will get Nexon to change these mistakes.

Users may submit their mistakes here. I will verify whether these mistakes are true or not. Just a helpful hint --> Screenshots might help your case.

One more thing, although there are many mistakes in the game, not all mistakes are related to the WZ files and are instead mistakes on Nexon's servers. I cannot control or verify that. This thread is for mistakes in the WZ files ONLY.

Character.wz
- "Seraphim Two-handed Sword" (id = Character/Weapon/01402053) has the wrong sprites on it
- "Green Jester" (id = Character/Cap/01002036) has "info/incMMD" instead of "info/incMDD"
- "Dark Lucida" (id = Character/Coat/01041124) has "info/regPOP" instead of "info/reqPOP"

Skill.wz
- Level 19 of Arrow Blow (id = Skill/300.img/skill/3001004/level/19/damage) has the damage improperly labeled as 283%. It should be 253%.

Sound.wz
- All of the MP3s are still missing/wrong for Pirates

String.wz
- "Dark Scroll for Shield for Magic Att. " (id = String/Consume.img/2040922/desc) should have its Success Rate listed as 30%, not 50%.
- "Dark scroll for Overall Armor for DEX" (id = String/Consume.img/2040509/desc) should have DEX+5, not DEX+4
- "Scroll for Gloves for DEX" (id = String/Consume.img/2040800/desc) has "accuracy" improperly spelled as "accurcacy"
- Level 18 of Explosion (id = String/Skill.img/2111002/h18) has the attack value improperly labeled as "00". It should be "99"
- Skill strings are all messed up (Even after you changed them in patch 0.63). Check this thread
- "[Skill Book] Maple Hero" (id = String/Consume.img/2280003/name) should be called "Maple Warrior", not "Maple Hero". The string is also wrong in the description.
- "[Mastery Book] Maple Hero" (id = String/Consume.img/2290096/name) should be called "Maple Warrior", not "Maple Hero". The string is also wrong in the description.
- "[Mastery Book] Phoenix" (id = String/Consume.img/2290062/desc) has "Phoenix" improperly spelled as "Poenix"
- "Transformation" (id = String/Skill.img/5111005/) has "Weapon & Magic att." falsely labeled. It should be "Weapon & Magic Def". Furthermore, the cooldowns listed are incorrect (as addressed above)

Green Jester's MMD / MDD problem
Dark Lucida's regPOP / reqPOP problem

I guess.

Use 38 MP, Attack 00, Mastered 40%, Attack Range 160%
Actual attack = 99

100% glove dex - gives +1 accurcacy

edit - sniper's blizzard can only be used with a bow.
edit again - revitalizer: raises a monster's fatigue level by 30. (yet it -30's it)

As a Marksman you can use Snipe with a Bow.

I s'pose that makes this a string error.
60% shoe dex (sounds right) adds avoidatility.

NPCs

Winston introduces himself as an "archeologist" rather than an "archaeologist"... too much sun maybe.

To their credit this is a huge amount of text (40 of 70-odd pages) to spell correctly. But, still, these can bug you. I'll go through the rest tomorrow.

The middle of T-1337's chat kind of gets messed up, and you have to select a gigantic chunk of text as an option (highlighted in blue), followed by an extremely short segment of normal black text that's supposed to be the thing you click on. Also, phoenix 20 says "poenix," and maple hero 20 is supposed to be maple warrior 20.

Transformation (3rd job) says Weapon & Magic Attack, instead of Weapon & Magic Defense. And the cooldown is wrong. Screenshot.

So mistakes in things like the descriptions when you mouse over the stat screen info is wanted here?

Such as when you mouse over STR it says it is needed for Magicians for damage or the INT stat it says something about it being need for Gunslingers damage? lol

I don't recall it doing 0 damage though. I had it on 18 (I think, not really sure as it's been a long time) for a while during my third job and it certainly didn't do 0 damage...

First, there are two spaces after a period. Second, you fixed the spelling error but left both of the grammatical ones. I don't think this topic should focus on simple spelling and grammar errors, because there are far too many of them.

Ontopic : Yellow/white seraphim does not "stay" on your arm as you walk. Looks like you're dribbling the damned thing.

I believe berserk still says the unchanged thing in the string data? Where it's actually +5% the original threshold.

edit: oops. didn't see your comment about string.wz. i guess this post just got useless lol

I dunno if this was fixed or not, but a while ago I realised that the sprites for the Dark Avarice and the Adamantium Avarice were switched.

Time leap misses a string in skill description.

Is the Haunted House pq still severely messed up with the mirrors not giving the item you need to get to the next level? Is that pq still even available? :-P

It's not available anymore.

Anyways, when I did it they gave the items...*shrugs*

Thief:
- Disorder - Disordering an aggro'ed stunned monster will start attacking you, instead of walking away like the description says

Bandit:
- Endure - Extra HP/MP regen is 10 seconds at each level, both description and data file don't make sense / are wrong...

Chief Bandit:
- Meso Guard - Skill description is wrong at ALL levels, for 3 years now... :')
- Chakra - Desciption is still the old one (They buffed it up, but not in description).
- Band of Thieves - Description is wrong (They lowered the mp usage, but not in description).

Shadower:
- Assassinate - First 3 hits cannot perform criticals, even with SE, Skill description doesn't mention this (well the skill is just bugged :P).

Pirate:
- SSkick / FFist / Double Shot - Wrong Skill sounds
- Out of bullets message is something like: #^#@#%@#@#@$%&%^* :)

Marauder:
- Transformation - Skill description cooldown time is wrong.
(very likely Super Transform cooldown is also wrong, but I can't check, I'm not 4th job yet).

In 60% Scroll for Shoe Dex, it states:
"Improve dexterity on shoe, 60% Success Rate, Avoidatility+2, Accuracy +1"

Mispelling in the description string.

DEX/INT/LUK stat descriptions are all 1 off what they should be.

Elemental staff reduction doesn't exist. Not sure if that's server sided or not though.

Also, I'm pretty sure a bandit's endure lets you heal on ropes. Don't know if that's a string error, though.

It's untranslated Korean; with Korean codepage activated, it shows up normally (except it's not in English, of course).

Description for endure = retarded.

It has 3 effects
1) hp regen
2) mp regen
3) endure
(note that Warriors get all these, but have to spend ~54 SP to get them)

The duration is how often you regen on ropes. The others are boosts to base hp/mp regen rates.

The descriptions for Combo, Assassinate, SE, etc., are incorrect. +220% instead of +20%, 120% instead of 600%, +40% instead of +140%, and so on.

Silver Hawk/Golden Eagle mention a certain number of "attacks" in their description, which should actually be Base Attack (?)

If it's still there, Demolition has Stun Times and animations that don't ever activate.

I'm not sure if it's a mistake, but the Crimsonwood Caverns (Cavern of Pain, etc.) have an animated background set (cracks in the wall letting light in) that looks like it should be randomly tiled or something instead.



Hair 31410 is messed up in rope/ladder animations (extra layers? Not sure what's wrong).

Some levels of Double Shot (1st Job Bowman skill) have the mp cost incorrectly labeled as going down instead of up.

The level 80 Zenumist Cape lacks a period at the end of its description. That or the level 80 Alcadno Cape has an extraneous period. Either way, it's inconsistent.

The images that display the word "MapleStory" above the MapleTVs is wrong , so a fuzzy line appears through the word "MapleStory" .
(UI.wz -> MapleTV -> TVoff.10 image is displayed instead of TVbasic.0)

Don't forget the all lovely "Hak that flies to Leafre" instead of the Blue Bird. And then there's also "Geenie that flies to Ariant". Genie is spelled like this with 1 "e" after the "G".
Then on the genie before it flies off, the npc says "Ginee is almost ready for takeoff." How the hell did they get ginee from genie? Oh and magatia? Don't even get me started. The npc "Bedin." should actually be Bedin without a period. Same with the titles under Carson and Maed. They say "Zenumist/Alcadno president." Again with the darn period >.> Oh and the world map of victoria island is screwed too, ever since Nautilus was added, Florina Beach's map dots are intercrossing with the Nautilus and haven't been moved to their new spot. Nexon also lost the Lowest Floor of Clocktower sub-map. Who knows if we'll ever get that, although they did add sleepywood and dead mine.

- Chief Bandit / Shadower :
Meso Guard's description is ugly and Chakra doesn't mention that the MP is used twice, once to form the aura and once to heal.

Also, Assassinate sometimes doesn't aggro monsters, especially if you aim the critical hit away from them. It usually happens if you attack the monster from behind. Edit: I just tested it at Neo Huroids (or whatever) and the just stand there, not doing anything about it. But after like 5 seconds or so, they react and start shooting stuff at me.

- Brawler :
You go through WindRaider if they're in their (annoyingly long) "hit" frame when attacking them with Corkscrew Blow or Backspin Blow.

Any KB skill will fail to push if the monster is still in their KB animation. Kinda annoying at CWK where everything has hideously long animations. I've had problems with Rush at Wyverns too though if I use Rush too soon.

Another, Corkscrew Blow does not make you travel with if you successfully make it hit in the air while looking to the left; unless you extremely close to floor/platform. It does make you move with it if you're facing the right.

It's hard to explain, but I hope it made sense.

It's also with "Jump-Backspin", like a Bowman's jumpshot, but with Backspin Blow. You move if you're looking right, you don't if you're looking left.

Oh! And Energy Drain is super slow while in Transformation, while Energy Blast is the same speed or a bit slow (not very noticeable).

For 3rd job Dks. The Crusher descriptions says "Attacks multiple monsters serveral times by thrusting the spear/pole arm"

Serveral should be several.


Edit : What about Hero's Will? Master level says 10 but you can only put one point in it and it can't go higher anymore.

You also can't JUMP to the left while charging Corkscrew, but you CAN jump to the right.

Well, you can jump to the left, but it's harder than it should be (compare them and you'll see what I mean).

Sinn, you sure that's not just your keyboard?

Lots of keyboards don't like certain key combinations at once, particular for 3+ keys. There's lots of things I can't do on my current keyboard that I used to be able to do on my old computer...

I never had any issue jumping left while charging...

this type of things usually happen with cheap/non-USB keyboards. I'm currently on a laptop and i can't jumpcast right and other combinations too. And doing it to one of the directions is easier than the other.

May I ask you or Sinnuendo what's you set your jump key as?

Typical problem is spacebar+arrows... I know my keyboard blocks space+up+left so I changed jump to a different letter, since it just makes things more difficult.

Instead of killing 50 King Clangs, it should be kill 50 clangs. If typos count as WZ errors, than there is a lot of them.. Also, most, if not all NPCs that percepts to be female, are regarded as he/him by other NPCs. Another quest that I can think of, with multiple glitches attached to it, the quest with Manji's secret orginization, the box you pick up from Moppie is called Bong's little box, when it should be something like Bongos box or something close to it.

While im talking about bongs little box, taht quest and other quests that have a kind of lvl limit, when you have it active and complete it under the required lvl, the quest moves to your complete section. If you are higher lvled though, the quest never gets removed, and when you complete it, the quest locks up and stays in your active quests.

Theres alot more quest related.. Like one quest (i cant remember now) in Ariant is supposed to give return scrolls and desert mists as a prize. You do not receive the desert mists..

combo strings are way more pineappleed up than that, and always have been.

- no "+" is necessary ( lvl 1 gives +104% damage... ... ...)

It's server side.
In the wz they all have an EleDefault of 75 and then an incRMAF and incRMAS or incRMAI and incRMAL of the appropriate 110/125 values, but since GMS does damage server side these values are/were ignored until the ruckus over them not giving the appropriate boost got them 1/2 fixed.

Unrelated real error however -

Blue Seal Cushion
"An adorable blue cushion that resembles a seal. Recovers HP 60 every 10 seconds."

The 60 regen is actually on MP, not HP in the .wz

There are some updates? Skill descriptions are still wrong? Elder Wraith/Big Foot/IAmRobot/... are still glitched?

just noticed the 4th job sp reset description says you reset a point into any 3rd job skill. :f7:

phoenix 20 skillbook says "poenix" in the decription.

Forgot to post this one I found when looking at Elemental attributes for Harrisonized's list:

Mob # 4230201, Poison Poopa's first attack is screwed up:

Around offset 1544083534 in Mob.wz (as of .64)

attack1/info/desease :f3:

Should obviously be

attack1/info/disease

It's the only mob with that particular mistake.

(Or decrease?)

If it hasn't already been mentioned, the description for Meso Guard is completely wrong.

No, all other instances of a poisoning skill are info.disease

there is no info.decrease
A decrease of an attribute is dont via the appropriate info.inc tag passed a negative value.

IE: info.incFatigue -1

That looks like Character\Weapon\1402048\stand2\0\weapon\map\hand\ X should be a -10 instead of a 0

String.wz (?)

Muhamad in The Town of Ariant has the description of Item market instead of Item maker.

I guess this is technically an oversight in the client code, but it involves the WZ data.

Anego, BGA, BGB, Grandpa, and Hsalf are the only monsters in the game with more than 2000 DEF in the data. However, the game limits them to only actually having 1999 DEF.

I don't, not for certain. But it's the most probable explanation as to why defense tests on Anego make the formula 'work' if we treat her defense as 2000, and why no one's hitting 1's on Hsalf.

After all, we already know that that's where player defense is capped at.

The defense thing is really silly. Why have such high defense numbers if they aren't going to be implemented? Is this also true for other versions of MS?

Do I detect a desire for a reason to belong to a CWKPQ? (I'm aware you're FPAM)

Chances are some of the people at Nexon have noticed some of the things on sp.net. And considering sp.net was once considered a "rogue website", they might keep tabs on us occasionally.


I'm not too familiar with all of the .wz errors, but it seems like Nexon America isn't very good at implementation details specific to their agendas and goals for MapleStory. The errors I do know about are mixed with version implementations specific to GMS.

Yes. I had to forfeit split twice just to go on the runs, and the second time, I didn't even get rez after I died duoing rellik and hsalf with a rusher. :f7:

The only time I got split was when I went with MySquire (THANK YOU) and unfortunately, he doesn't organize anymore. (It was the only time I got into bonus too.)

It's appalling how unethically Mages are treated: even though I was definitely doing more damage than the rusher and some of the other lower leveled members were just afking on the top, I fought and died for the group and I still got shafted.

Had Hsalf's 8000 def been working, I wouldn't run into these sorts of problems.

Obviously he was designed to prevent melee classes pineappleing with him so harrison is justified. Once again mages get shafted at bosses even if it was designed to do the opposite.

Another question to ask prose later on i suppose.

I totally do not have that problem... Weird cross-server cultural difference there.

Now Mardia does have asses who'd ask me to echo before getting in, then kick me and run without me, but generally I'm not stupid (or desperate) enough to run with them in the first place.

Harrison, is your guild able to CWPQ? Thats the only people I'll CWPQ with and it's actually pretty fun. Maybe you should try a guild run.:f6:

Build better connections. The 50 extra Buddy Slots should help.

As for me, why CWK PQ when I can Skele :P (splits are getting worse also)

Our guild is near dead, and despite me trying to raise membership, it's not working as I can't get them to talk within the guild. Our guild is drifting apart, and both alliance guilds are more dead than we are.

Besides, we barely have any pirates in our guild so we can't get in anyways.

I don't believe that's the reason. I've been bossing with groups since 14x, and we have a 147 IL in our current Tuesday CWKPQ and Wednesday ZRuns.

I'm the highest level by 30+ in almost any run I attend and there's almost always another lower level IL present. It may be the whole FP thing though. I never see FPs invited to almost anything. Gengle was invited to ours but he didn't even make it 90 before quitting MS.

Clearly you need to world transfer to Mardia where you can be appreciated. :chin:

I've actually considered this for a while, but I don't know. Transferring to Mardia would mean ditching everyone I ever met on MS. (not really, I knew some JustUs people before they left Scania) but I've never really talked to them. I'd be completely foreign to Mardia, and being foreign means no guarantees.

I still need a HTP Egg, and my comp sucks too much to HT. I've personally tried it and I dc every time, I need a BP and I trust nobody on Mardia since I don't know them at all. In addition, I'd be completely foreign to the economy there, and I heard the server has a small economy, with a much smaller FM size (making it harder to purchase things).

Finally, I heard your hacker problem is worse than ours.
