God Mode Sensation - Magus - 2008-07-02

I completely understand what TC is talking about.
I'm the main character of this RPG and you're all NPCs.

This is a game without NPCs where no one wins and die at the end.

There's a flaw.
One of the ariant quests in maplestory allows you (the main character) to transform into the fat guy guarding the palace.
However, he is a NPC (non-playable character), yet you can play as him.

In this situation, a main character can become a NPC.
Therefore, Magus, one day you will realize that you are in fact one of the NPCs, and the main character is someone you will encounter one day, but will never have any proof or recollection of that person or thing to be the "main character."

Some people might refer to the main character as God.

Think about that Tongue.

Thank god I am an atheist. Wink

Likewise.

If you are atheist, you believe in no God.
However, you believe in the term atheist.
The term atheist, believing in no God, is your God.
Your God is a word.
But you don't believe in God.
Your God is your belief in no Gods.

Now play around with that.

God Mode Sensation - Eldin - 2008-07-03

Hmm. I felt that way for about a month earlier this year. I got pretty depressed and angry... then realized I was being more Nietzsche Wannabe than Ubermensch and talked myself into a better mindset.
Judging from the other responses, it seems that for some this passes, and for some this stays. Thankfully, I think you only go Creuset-style insane as a result of continuing to think that way in fiction - if you find differently, let me know Tongue

I just started reading the book The God Delusion today, I am still in the first chapter and I am thinking about things I never thought about before.

Like how we are overly polite when critizing religion but are mean when giving a resturuant or a play reviews. There is no god, but there are chefs and actors.

Here's one that ALWAYS gets to me, no matter what.
"Why must I tip the waitress/waiter? Why can't I tip the chef instead?"

Because waiters are underpaid, and they are doing the labor.

Its like asking "Why do I have to tip the bag boy and not the hotel manager?"
"Why do I have to tip the cab driver and not the mechanic?"

My way of seeing it:
The chefs are the one's who are constantly doing all the labor.
The waiters just bring the tray to and from.

The waiters don't:
Cook the Food
Clean the plates
Perfect the order

The chefs do:
Cook the food....constantly for every customer and guest.

Why would I want to tip someone to bring my food to and from the kitchen, which is only a 15 second walk?
Likewise, why should I tip the bag boy? I could carry my own bags for a few minutes / seconds and save a buck or two <_<.

Waiters are underpaid, sure.
People have in their mindset to "tip the waiter when paying for the check."
But people like me...I'd rather tip someone whose done REAL labor.

I'm not saying that waiters don't have labor, they do, but just not tip worthy enough.
It's like tipping someone to hold the hold for you when you come in and when you leave.

The chefs are the masterminds in the whole situation. They are the one's who perfect the foods, prepare the dishes...everything you are PAYING for, however, you aren't paying the CHEFS, you are paying the COMPANY. Therefore, the tips should go to the chefs.

For example, why would you tip the sushi chef?
1) You're generous
2) He's making the food in front of you and you personally asked him.
3) You like sushi.
4) You got what you wanted.
5) I'm not doing well with this example.

However, in the sushi chef case, I don't like to tip them because I have to save that money to tip the dang waitress (yea, I'm SUPER poor...I save pennies <_<)

The cab driver and the mechanic:
You're never near the mechanic. The cab driver does the labor to complete your ultimate request.
You don't tip the hotel manager because you are already paying him for the hotel fees. The bag boy responds to action of your every will.
The waiter brings trays to and from the kitchen. The Chef completes the transactions of your requests.

I guess you could say that I value those that complete the request ultimately, not the little events in between the request.

God Mode Sensation - Brandini - 2008-07-03

Its the way our society is, waiters do a lot of work, even if you think walking back and forth and remembering everyone's order and specific seats is insignificant. Its part of the service and ritual you expect when you go to a resturuant.

It seems you are chosing who to tip for certain actions not because you don't value their work or are trying to rebel against our culturual norms, but because you are too poor.

If you can't afford a night out maybe you should just save your money. xD

no offence.

God Mode Sensation - Saver - 2008-07-03

Actually, I kinda lost my main point in this whole thing.

Going from the main topic of the TC, I view everyone as the actors while I am the statue, watching the play (when I go to restaurants).

I pay for the ticket to see the show, but I don't pay each and every individual actor that has come into my (closer) view.

I meant to say that I wouldn't tip either; but if I tip one, why can I not tip the other.

Mer.

God Mode Sensation - Brandini - 2008-07-03

I guess we see things differently. You try to rationalize it, I just accept it as proper manners. I would feel cheap if I didn't tip a waiter that served me and the waiter would probably feel insulted or mad.

God Mode Sensation - Normalizer - 2008-07-03

In many cases, the chef is being paid for consistently providing what the menu advertises. If he/she doesn't they are dismissed and another is found that can. They expect to be paid well for what they do. Waiters and waitresses get paid a certain amount knowing if they do on par or more than they will get a tip. Some places pool all the tips and divide it at each days close with everyone. I'm against this as it doesn't allow one to be rewarded for excellence.

When buying a ticket you don't directly pay money to the actor's but you do indirectly by supporting the success of the show. This contributes to the fame of that actor and subsequently to the rise of they paycheck in their next movie.

Now to your original theme of this post... it appears you might be a bit disconnected from society. An extreme example might be the main character of "Dexter" a showtime series. On a milder level you might be just needing someone to share your thoughts and dreams with that can relate to your way of thinking.

I'm hoping for Dexter... as his character is so freakin' fascinating! Not that I promote serial killers in any way, it's just so cool how he's coped with making his way of life more acceptable to society. He doesn't have feelings to speak of. If someone is hurt or dies he doesn't care. He's a statue that watches the play unfold around him. But he has learned to fake his feelings. Learned to make sure no one notices him. He lives by a code of conduct of killing only those that deserve death. You gotta respect that. He plays god... he does him very well I think at least he's consistent.

God Mode Sensation - Magus - 2008-07-03

Now I'm gonna be thinking about that all day.
Thanks, Saver. <____<

Also, this topic reminds me of the time I watched the last two episodes of Evangelion... without seeing the movie.

So athethist is beleiving in no god? Im so that!

God Mode Sensation - xCenario - 2008-07-10

Personally I dont really know if being atheist implies any basics or fundamentals. I just don't believe in any god at all.

But one thing I feel uncomfortable of that OP said, is your life being written already.

Religions, or many people define that as destiny. I dont know you guys, but I refuse to believe in the notion that everything you do doesnt matter, because afterall its all written. I like believing that everything I do is the cause of any result I get.

Thats my opinion.
