Quote:Lol we used to play mafia all the time in jhs/camp (taught the students how to play). Playing on forums sounds like it'd take a long time since not everyone is on at the same time.

Well, we're starting on Saturday the 9th. Each night time will last 3 days, or before that if everyone with roles respond before that, and daytime will another last 3 days, or as long as it takes to agree on a victim for the lynching. So with 2 people dying per week, this will last a while.

Still have room for 1/2 more players if you're interested.

All that have signed up will be receiving a PM either today or tomorrow about your roles. PM me back to accept.

What happens if someone doesn't respond? Are they removed from the game?

Night shouldn't last that long. All that needs to happen during the day is for special roles to PM choices. During the day, discussion is needed to decide the lynch (or whatever they call it when the game is referred to as "mafia"), so your day length should be pretty good, but night definitely doesn't need to be that long.

Oh, and when the game actually starts, I think you should post official decisions on rules relating to instalynches, posting at night, things like that.

EDIT: Oh and "card turning". That is, whether or not roles of the killed will be revealed upon death. And I forget if you mentioned a guardian role, but take a stance on what information will be revealed in the case of a successful guarding (or, in other cases, a failed night killing). Sometimes, the attempted night kill will be revealed publicly, saying they were attacked and survived. Other times, the host may reveal only that there was no death during the night. But this decision needs to be officially established prior to the game getting underway.

EDIT: also guys, please excuse me if I use a werewolf-variant-specific term (such as "wolfing" to refer to the night kill). If I make such a mistake and you don't understand, just ask me and I'll clarify.

Ohoho, I haven't played this in a while. I'm in.

[Polling Interest] Mafia game - Corn - 2008-08-05

Ugh I thought I signed up earlier....signing up again.

Edit: @Afrobean He didn't have an "Angel." So ignore that.

Nights changed to 2 days or until all act.

Okay.

At any point of the game if there are more mafia than other players, instant win. Nighttime communication that are not preapproved are forbidden, but I have no method of enforcement.

Card turns for mafia only. No guardian role.

Something else I'd like to bring up, something that I'm not sure of if it's a standard gameplay element or not.

When we played at FFR, we classified roles based on color alignments, originally for formatting reasons, but it eventually became an abstract way of talking about roles. Normal humans being green, special humans being blue and wolves being red. Basically, anyone with a special ability allied with the "good guys" was blue, and all bad guys were red, even in the case of a wolf with unique powers (such as the master wolf who, if seer'd, would appear to be green, or wolf seer who might have the ability to see humans as "blue" or "green" in addition to the night kill).

It doesn't really affect anything either way, but I think it's a helpful way to think of things.

I don't know if the "master wolf" idea would even be reasonable here though. When we played at FFR, it was HEAVILY built around private conversations. Because of this, many games played out where a certain blue role would be able to identify greens and they built up a list of who was NOT a wolf, and picked to lynch whoever they felt like during the day. I like the idea of this game not allowing private talking however, because in doing so, even if a seer identifies a squad of greens, that information is THEIRS and THEIRS ALONE. Really, most basic games ended up being the seer would publicly announce that they were the seer (under the idea that the guardian would guard them every night, or the wolves would be too afraid of missing a kill so wouldn't even try risking), and the seer would just lead the game and overall it was very passive. I'm hoping we can do this thing in a much more active fashion with everything in the open.

EDIT: something else I want to point out: social engineering is a touchy subject, but I would say at the very least that private talking with the host should be offlimits. This would mean no talking about any PM you receive from the host (including the original one that tells you the role). I tell you, we had people always toeing the line at FFR, trying to cull clues out of things like the contents of PMs, even PMs that every player received in one faculty or another.

Oh and something else: what will happen in the case of cheating? This could be anything, but most notably in my mind would be talking about the game privately. Simply booting the player out of the game? What if the cheating is done anonymously, such as through an alternate AIM account, or by creating an alternate account here on a proxy and PMing everyone? What if someone who is not playing the game posts in the thread? What if someone who is privy to secret information about the game posts information in the thread thinking they're being cute or funny? At FFR, we had the staff backing us and a special forum, so it wasn't hard to enforce such rules, but here, I feel it might be a bit harder to make sure things go smoothly.

So...are we starting yet?

[Polling Interest] Mafia game - Thunda - 2008-08-09

Begin night 1.

Isn't it...daytime now? ;o

[Polling Interest] Mafia game - Thunda - 2008-08-11

Day 2

After the brief server check, all the members of FallenLeaves would log on to get training maps; it was extremely hard to get training maps at Himes otherwise. But while the terse tidbits in the guild was common, the absence of Mira in the purple chat was awry. Something was wrong. Very wrong.

I vote for Afrobean as a hacker.

Why? He's too knowledgeable for his own good. His personality simply screams hacker.

I was wondering when this would happen, particularly since he must have had the PMs in by midnight last night.

Incidentally, how are lynch votes to be handled? I'm not sure how it works for Mafia, but for The Werewolf Game, we had votes only count if bolded, and votes could be changed as often as we like. This would lead to people more easily putting out preliminary votes (which were effective in getting communication started), but that was mostly due to a system we had called phantom votes (whereby, if a person neglected to vote, they would be easier to be lynched in future days), but I don't know if that same system is to be used here.

Fast and easy fake screenshot that gets the point across, even if not very realistic.

Italicized names are preliminary votes. These are counted only if the deadline passes without another vote from the member. Bolded names are final votes. Anyone I catch changing a final vote dies immediately.

I suppose that one dead Mafia member means that someone will die every night now, until Mira's partner is killed also. Am I right here?

[Polling Interest] Mafia game - Thunda - 2008-08-11

Up to 2 can die every week as of the status at the beginning of the game. Each member of the pair is able to work by him or herself if the other one is unresponsive. All I will say.

Why? He seems a bit to eager to vote for other people.

Immediately suspicious of Zaotsu with that quick jump on Afrobean.
