New Project - MMOStatus.net
Not directly related to Southperry, but spawned from our Status page and the sheer number of other unstable games out there and various complaints that they needed status pages too, we've begun an ambitious project to create a self sustaining stand alone status system ( SSSASSy!).
http://www.mmostatus.net/
Once fully operational it will be on it's own hardware separate from SP so that the two do not screw with each other's stability during the peak period of either.
It can be considered something of an open beta at the moment as we're processing new games to add to it and working on making it nicer and figuring out where everything is going to go.
Explore it, play with it, comment on it, share it, enjoy it.

Sounds cool, seems like a good idea.
Also, "Eosian Enterprises" ?
And did you edit my post just to hide that typo? What the hell. For the record, folks, he typo'd seperate as separare. I wouldn't think that was a big enough deal to warrant editing a user's post Bulldog-style to hide that it had happened, but whatever.

I edited your post to remove the fact you quoted the entire message on the 2nd post like an idiot.
Then since it no longer applied and didn't make sense any more, I removed that bit too.
You are not watergate, get over it.

Neither of them is correct.

I don't like the green, it's pukish, :(. I don't think it matches with the status colors as well, I know it's petty but its all the negative feedback I have right now
Is there a reason only a few games work right now besides that's in beta and you're working on it?

Re: New Project - MMOStatus.net
Google Ads up immediately I see :f3: This is a really cool idea, nice job :) Are you planning to change the design when everything is up and running? The colours are a bit annoying. Also, if possible try and get the S4 League server status up! It's been disconnecty lately.
-
Re: New Project - MMOStatus.net
I'm probably just oversensitive to that sort of thing. Mod/Admin edits have been a rampant problem on another forum I visit (one of the lead moderators making edits to posts s/he disagrees with or that refer to some of their more questionable posts) and some of it is OCD - I don't like things being moved or changed. It's a touchy subject for me, but I overreacted.
And yes, Shidoshi, I typo'd as well. These things happen when you're frustrated.
-
Re: New Project - MMOStatus.net
I think it'd be nice to have a few links on each status page to prominent sites for the game - official site, databases, that sort of thing. For people who trawl through the lists and have a new name catch their eye.

The official site links will be there later, but frankly if you play the game enough to care about the status you already know where the website is.
Not promoting any fansites over any other, so no databases, etc.

Fair enough.
How hard would it be to have an extra column showing the time a server has been up for? Or just the date/time of the last red. Could be useful for deciding whether the game is stable enough to bother logging on.
-
Re: New Project - MMOStatus.net
Would it be possible to implement a calendar or graph of some sort to show uptime or outages for the individual games?

Not accurately, or cleanly. An uptime column / time since last outage is about the best doable and not easy to cram in.
-
Re: New Project - MMOStatus.net
It's coming along nicely. With 3 of us working on it, it's still taking some time.
I would like to know though what other games people here might play that we do not have on the tentative list yet. Please feel free to suggest some more popular games that we haven't thought of yet, and maybe we can get them on the list eventually.

Zero order predictions are prone to failure. Just because it's been up for long doesn't mean it won't crash the next minute, and just because it has just came up that it will crash again.
But whatever, if people want this let them have it.

That's a very good point. Mabinogi has been experiencing those issues for the last few weeks. All weekend, the servers would be up one second and literally, 5 seconds later....down again. It wouldn't do a lot of good to have something like that. I do understand the concept of that though. (seeing how stable a game is before playing it) However, no one will probably look at this to decide if they want to play "said game". They'll look at it after they've already started playing it.

Re: New Project - MMOStatus.net
only thing i have to say is probably centering the charts, they're too close to the border of the screen.
that and the green background, probably a cleaner color would be much better.

What browser are you using to look at them? What version of the browser? We were having some trouble with IE, but it has been fixed since we discovered it. It looks fine to me now.

Shinku's probably using adblock. Without the ads, the contents of the page stick to the left side of the window.

Out of curiosity, if you re-enable it and check now does the main page stay in proper form?

What are you using to get rid of the ads?
The stuff I tested on left the divs behind, and that should've triggered the JS to put back in placeholders, and the divs themselves should've stayed present even without content and at a forced size.

gtting the same results as shidoshi, but in firefox, using adblock plus 2.0.3

Re: New Project - MMOStatus.net
Same thing in Chromium (16.0.912.77) with Adblock Plus 1.2 Beta. Loads fine in the middle until the very end, then sudden Left shift. I'll mess with blocklists, maybe something good will happen.

Re: New Project - MMOStatus.net
Should show up now, and retain form.

Re: New Project - MMOStatus.net
Lol, love those black boxes.
I still hate ads with a passion, I can't go merry-go-lucky clicking around on pages without fear of going somewhere I don't want to. Not to mention visual polution and longer loading.

Should retain form even if you block the images. I'm not above making it randomize the image name and location just to ensure it gets seen though.

=P if it gets too annoying with ads I might not visit the site.
You could always do whatever Gmail did, I can't block their ads.
Anyway, it works. The site stays BEAUTIFUL even if I block your towers and footers. If you wanted you could just make them part of the background. Or make the whole thing a flash object.
EDIT: Nvm, seems like you only fixed the Home Page. Work harder, Leedin, darling!

Perfection takes time. Have to verify it works in one place before adding it to the global template.

How is the current/new hover-over info? Does that work?
-
Re: New Project - MMOStatus.net
Agree with Leaves.
Dat logo.
Anyhow, you might want to add some Blizzard games if you can, to bring it to a much wider audience. I'm sure that a lot of people would enjoy having that (if such a thing doesn't already exist for Blizzard games, I don't rightly know).
Oh, and one more thing. For the hover-over vitals thing, can you make it so that the world-channel shows up? Just like
Vitals- Galicia09
for Galicia ch9.
-
Re: New Project - MMOStatus.net
On the homepage, everything except the logo wants to go towards the left.
But when I enter the FAQ page, everything seems to center itself against the logo.

Re: New Project - MMOStatus.net
The grey background for the text areas always changes color on mouse over, and just feels annoying. Is that intentional/required? Or is that removable? It seems like it would flow better if it just stayed a solid color.
Just a few spelling errors:
FAQ page
Line 123: "Copyrighted" is spelled "Coprighted"
Line 137: "Community" is spelled as "Communmity"
And the footer explain
"All images, artwork, and icons are copyright their respective game publishers, developers and licensees." should probably be
"All images, artwork, and icons are copyright to their respective game publishers, developers and licensees." as the former doesn't look grammatically correct, however, I'm not sure on this as I'm no grammar-expert.
-
Re: New Project - MMOStatus.net
Might want to specify what timezone all the timestamps are in.
Also image alt-text blocks the hover box.

It's good. I know it's nice to have all the stats in one place, but it seems kinda redundant to have the time of last check and reachability in the box. Those are already clearly displayed. Getting rid of those lines would also make the box smaller, but I guess it only looks big because I'm checking this on my phone...
With regards to what Shidoshi said, would having a ratio of reds/greens for the past hour or so be a better indicator of server stability? Sounds like a pain to do though.
Oh, and I find it sad that you've listed Perfect World as a publisher in the games list, but haven't included Perfect World itself. Are you keeping a bigger list of games somewhere, or are the crossed out ones all you're planning to do for now?
-

We have a rather huge list, the ones that up there are the ones being actively worked on in the queue by someone, not representative of everything planned.
Once the current queue is weeded down we'll move into open alpha, publish a list of the remaining games and be more productionalized. Other games from PWI will likely be up before we're caught up with all the other publishers so it probably will never be on the in progress list, it'll just pop up somewhere in the process most likely.
-
Re: New Project - MMOStatus.net
A little pedantic, but the hover-over info box seems too far away from the cursor itself so the little arrow on the hover-over box ends up pointing to the server next to the one you're hovering over on the games that have more channels per server like Maple and DN. Can kind of be seen in the screenshot a few posts up.

Re: New Project - MMOStatus.net
As a suggestion, maybe add an aeriagames tab sometime down the line? I play edeneternal sometimes, and soon lime odyssey. Aeria recently bought out Ijji, so they are decent sized now, too. They have a ton of games though, lol.

It's line 16 of 60 in the master list. Refer to -> #47

Re: New Project - MMOStatus.net
Might ruin the simplicity a bit, but it'd be really useful to have a 'recent' or 'favourite games' tab of sorts, so if and when there are hundreds of titles listed people can pick and choose specific games to keep up with. Or even just a 'most popular' tab.

You would have to elaborate on what you mean by those terms. Recent to who? Favorite to who? How do those differ from using your browser history or book mark? If they require registration that's a huge turn off, people don't want to register to see that sort of crap when they can just bookmark it, or even type it faster. Right now the site runs off completely static content; No queries are used in accessing the site or it's data, and I'd prefer to keep it that way as much as possible.
By the time there are hundreds of titles the layout will be significantly different and we'll actually have data on what games statuses are the most popular, it'd be rather hard to accomplish that at the moment with so few games and virtually no usage.

I guess bookmarking the pages works too, I just thought it'd be a nice feature to have a drop down list that individual people could customise for their favourite games. Recent as in the server status pages that you've visited, so essentially the same as a browser history, but more usable. Was thinking for the future mostly, as there isn't really any point right now when there are so few titles - but it's no big deal if it's easy to get around that by just using bookmarks.
-

Would you consider the hassle of another user/pass you have to remember/record/use worth the benefit of what you've described when you still have to use a bookmark or similar to get to the site anyway? Is your main point of entry to the site going to be a bookmark to a game you're interested in, or would you be typing the address manually?

I'd have MMOStatus.com on my bookmark toolbar (Google Chrome) and have the login/password saved to browser memory, would just have to hit the login button. I'd use it for sure, but I can't speak for everyone.

It's like for Southperry, where I have absolutely no idea what my password is. I just keep going while it's on the memorized passwords and reset it whenever it logs out.

Yes, but you actually interact here. There's a completely different cost/benefit to having an account.
If the only thing an account got you on southperry was the 'exclude forums' feature would you have bothered creating an account?

I'd be pretty inclined to create an account simply for the 'ignore users' function.
As for your site, I usually don't play many games at once so I would only bookmark 1 page. But for anyone that plays several games it might be more interesting.
-
Re: New Project - MMOStatus.net
Checking MMOStatus reminded me to finally whitelist Southperry's ads, so there's that.
On current subject, I think any form of "favorite" list would be excessive work just to create work.
I can't imagine a scenario in which someone would need to check more than one game at a time.

Even if you dislike me, there's several other people on this site who would appreciate this, as well as 2 communities with more than a hundred regulars each as well as many randoms, and access to the Korean community which is a yet-untapped source of traffic and therefore revenue.

I'm not Korean. I don't play KMS. I don't have a KSSN.
None of the other games are
A) Outside of North America
B) Requiring something as insane as as KSSN
C) In languages I don't speak.
Which request is more unrealistic? You asking me to support something I have no access to, or me asking you to provide the info to do so when you do?

I'm pretty sure that KremeChoco and Mario have access to a few dozen KSSN's that can be used. He and Mario do make accounts for KMS, which (oddly enough) require KSSN's. I have no doubt that he'd be fine to help you, especially for something as useful as this.
As I'm pretty sure you know, I don't have the requisite knowledge to make anything like this. If I did, would I be asking you? Hell, I didn't even know you needed an account to do it. I honestly hadn't put much thought into it.
To be honest, I would let you use my own account if I knew how the hell this worked and it turned out you could use my account to test the servers while I was in-game, purely because it's so useful.

Or I assumed if you really cared, and didn't know how to get it yourself, you would've just PM'd for the instructions and could be well on your way to having this info available. Knowing how to do it, and having the time and resources to automate it, are two completely different things after all.

Given that I basically thought of it randomly during the day and then came here and posted, I hadn't put a lot of time into it.
As I've already admitted, I had (and tbh still have) no idea how this works. At all. I simply did not know that you needed an account to do it. Absolve me of my sins.
Truly, I'm a nice person. I wouldn't want to be selfish and make this all for myself. Share the love, Eos. I neither had the time to sit down and learn how to do it when I asked, nor did I (or do I) have access to a computer or server that I don't need that has an uninterrupted internet connection.
However, now that you are so kind to offer, sure. I'll see what I can do. I've got a 3-day weekend. Any programs I'll need?

Of course that's also assuming that the numbers all work, since there's no guarantee they're not using two or three different numbering plans like Nexon America did.

Of course that's also assuming that the numbers all work, since there's no guarantee they're not using two or three different numbering plans like Nexon America did.
Is KMS as unstable as GMS? :f6:
Not usually.
It's just nice to know when things go up/down.
Mini-patches happen rather often just after major patches, and if you happen to miss the notice and d/c it's nice to know why. Also to know when you can get back on.
Andy seems to really want it.

Re: New Project - MMOStatus.net
It's live now, but updates less frequently than the other games due to the extreme latency from host to korea and the nearly 600 channels involved.

Re: New Project - MMOStatus.net
You misspelled your wrong.
Allied servers share the same hardware and are only represented once. If your world is in an alliance and not listed, please look for the world that is listed from yoru alliance.
Edit: This is going no where.

So basically you have no point here?

or that the entire universe is pretty clear on the relational aspect of distance and time to travel, apparently.

Actually it's even more like the t-shirt I was wearing now, but I find it a pleasantly neutral and soft color/pattern combo.

You have 2 tshirts that colour?! @Sarah must know!

The logo still makes me cringe a little.
Especially on the new background.

Truly horrifying. Unless you use them for stealth kills in grassy knolls.

Re: New Project - MMOStatus.net
Leveraging the new infrastructure from MMOStatus.net our own status page is now updating by the minute.
Downside is the time is now central / GMT -6.

No. It was on California time when it was just us, and just Maple.

I really hope you intend to fix it to show GMS server time again.
For now can you at least note somewhere on the page what zone the times are given in, and how to convert to GMS server time?
Also, spacing between the "Login" line and "Scania" is now smaller than all the rest. Can you add a blank icon or something to make it even?

Re: New Project - MMOStatus.net
Could you.. add the logs back? Those were actually quite useful to me :(

Not now. It was useless to the vast majority, who neither understood what it actually meant, nor cared. This one shows how long an outage that's in progress has been going on for in the infopop and when the last outage was when one isn't. That would make a useful log, but still needs routines in place to actually be able to track and display it without database activity.

Nope.
Considering it's updating every minute if you can't look at the fact it says 05:52 and your own clock says 06:52 and figure out it's an hour off from you, and which direction, you're frankly too stupid to understand how to use a status page in the first place, let alone have thought to look for one.
When I have a chance I may consider trying to add a time offset for every channel of every game in the known universe but that just seems rather pointless for an audience that's >= 13 and should have understood the basics of time for at least half a decade.

Re: New Project - MMOStatus.net
In short, the GMS status page has lost functionality and ease of use to conform to the infrastructure of the new project, which is of no interest to me because I don't play any of those other games, and which is not even accessible directly from Southperry.net or the stat.php page.
As for timezone conversions: I much prefer to let a computer do things for me, even things I could have done myself, especially when it can do them faster and more reliably. Somehow, you agreed that the time should be in Pacific, in the old version. Even now you said it's a "downside" that it no longer is. So please don't treat me like I'm asking for some dumbed-down version that nobody ever thought necessary or useful before.
And I still request, humbly, that a text to the effect of "all times are Central / GMT-6, two hours ahead of GMS server time" appear somewhere in the legend area of Southperry.net/stat.php. I'm a stupid foreigner, I am, and not all that familiar with USA timezones.

In short: I couldn't care less about GMS, or Southperry as a GMS-centered site . Looking for other sources of revenue now. Don't bother me.
Gotcha.

Maybe if you (all of you, not you specifically) learned to provide constructive criticism rather than passive aggressive demands and drama filled tirades about how it's the end of the world because I don't have enough time in my daily life to bend over backwards and make the entire damn universe conform to your ideals of how it should work, while also not upsetting anyone else's ideals of how it should work, I would be more inclined to try to accommodate, but really all I get is whining and kvetchery when I am nice enough to make, what was at the time a simple tweak, and then later it doesn't have long term feasibility at the exact minute you want it, it becomes THE END Of DAYS.
Fine. Just for your sorry whiny ass I'll program in an offset for one game. Because your heart wrenching plea for support has been well thought and entirely polite and insightful. Except it wasn't so maybe I will just do what I originally said and throw it at the bottom of the pile where it belongs because maybe, just maybe, I have something more important in my life than offsetting the time for people who know damn well both what the server time is, and what the time of the site they're looking at is.

Re: New Project - MMOStatus.net
Or, you know, you could have just left the GMS status page as it was.

No, No I rather couldn't due to multiple issues it was both causing, and having.
Do you think I just arbitrarily rewrite entire systems because I have ever so much feel time and I just feel like it?
Just because you don't see, know, or understand that something is going on doesn't mean everything is running just perfectly and can stay the way it is.
You seriously need to get over how horribly inconvenienced you are by this and thank god, buddah, the flying spaghetti monster, or random entity of your choice that this is the most pressing issue you have in your life right now.

Re: New Project - MMOStatus.net
Time differences can be annoying for people in different countries/hemispheres with all the DST changes that are never on the same dates for different countries.
I don't really care either way, I'd just open my trusty "What time is it in XXX zone" and compare it to mine either way. Not to mention there isn't that much of a point in knowing when and for how long the server was/has been offline.
