At Anime Expo 2008
Posted by: IsaacGS - 2008-07-06, 08:08 PM - Forum: Maplestory Discussion - Replies (43)

So I went to the Anime Expo in Los Angeles yesterday and stopped by the nexon booth. They were giving out Mabinogi tote bags (which turned out to be quite helpful for carrying everything) and as I walked up for the first time, they were just finishing their Trivia contest. He said they would ask more questions in 30 minutes, so I went and messed around for a while, then came back; the questions they asked were quite simple: "Who do you go to to advance to warrior?" Advance to Thief?" "Advance to Archer?" (This question, btw, I won a T-shirt and 10k NX on.) Then he asked a question about Mabinogi, and Audition (It was funny because no one could answer them. >_>) and finally started to ask some interesting things:
"What is the newest Continent in MapleStory?" Well, that's Masteria (obviously). The next question was even better:
"What's the name of John Barricade's brother?" I was sort of dumbfounded that they asked this because there's only two places where this is mentioned: Once, during John's NLC quest which a good 90% of us did almost a year ago, and the second in the TCG item description of Subani Ankh. These references to him are also not obvious, and considering the fact that it seems most people flat out ignore everything NPCs have to say, quite rare. I couldn't answer again as I had already answered the earlier question, but I tried to whisper it to my friend. I was a little loud and got caught. :p Still, I waited like 30 seconds before and no one answered. (If you're wondering, my friend later won on the last question, which was asking where you could buy NX cards, but they ran out of shirts. I gave her mine since I didn't plan on wearing it anyway. XD)

What's the significance of this? Well, for one the flash ad that's been popping up everywhere, has a picture of an NPC we all suspect to be Jack Barricade on it. Since the other questions were all so easy, it seems odd why they'd make one be about a random remark made by one NPC two times.
Unless, you know, he's coming out as a real NPC soon. (Obvious patch hint.)

I got lots of pictures but I don't think any were at the nexon booth. Mostly of just people in really cool costumes. If any people want to see those then I'll post them. As a whole it was really fun, even though I could only stay for 5 hours.

Some of you might know me, some of you might not. Who knows. At the very least, you might recognize me from my avatar/signature/a-bla-bla.

Anyway, in lieu of stating the obvious, I'll just tell you that my name... should be obvious. Tongue I'm not a very entertaining person; in fact, I probably seem overly serious sometimes, but that's most likely just someone misinterpreting me. In fact, I'm usually in a good mood, and certain things can excite me pretty easily. My hobbies aren't very interesting, but in my free time, I like to read, write, listen to music, play video games, and browse the internet. Fun, fun.

Moving on from my personality and such, I'm fourteen-years-old and am going to be a sophomore next year. I also live in California, but not the hot, dry, southern area. The area of California I live in is extremely mountainous, and the elevation is about 5,000 feet. We get a huge dump of snow every winter, almost always AT LEAST five feet. It still gets to around eighty or ninety degrees in the summer, though. (Bleh, heat.)

Anyway, just thought I'd make an introductory thread to get myself started on this forum. I look forward to seeing all of you around.

How to Kill Chief Bandits at Gobys

How to Kill Chief Bandits at Gobys.

Introduction
I've received many a question on how to exactly kill a Chief Bandit at Gobys... In this guide I will hopefully train you to become an expert at killing these annoying little critters. This is a really handy skill when an annoying Chief Bandit is in your Goby channel and you want them gone!

Information you must know before you start your expedition

If you don't know what a "Gobys" is, I suggest you quit Maplestory. But just in case you don't feel like quitting, I'll tell you.

Gobys is a short form of a map called Deep Sea Gorge II. Obviously, It's found in Aqua Road. The map is often referred to as "Gobys", or "Gobay", or even, "Fucking annoying fish that Archers have to train on for ~30+ levels", because there is a monster that spawns here called Goby...! To get to the sacred chalice of EXP known as a Goby, you must break open a 'Bombing Fish House' which will release 6 Gobys upon death of the House.

Here is the Map layout of 'Deep Sea Gorge II' in Aqua Road.

Now, before you get all exited... You MUST be aware that there are some powerful monsters down there; some monsters you may not be able to kill... (Lookin' at your F/Ps). Here are the monsters that spawn on the map.

Prerequisites
To be one of the TOP and most ELITE Chief Bandit killers in Mardia you must have some skills. These skills will aid you in your ever-lasting battle again the CHIEF BANDIT. Here are the needed skills/prerequisites.

- Being a type of character that has ranged attacks.
Sorry, Melee people. In this type of business you're basically fucked. You'll be standing around so long trying to get the House to Def. up. So long that the CB can just simply, loot his money and swim away. I'm not saying it's IMPOSSIBLE to do it without ranged attacks, it's just a lot harder.

- Having over 2.2k HP.

If you do not have OVER 2.2k HP you will most-likely die while trying to kill. If you are a pro, then you can get away without having 2k HP; but there is a HUGE chance of yourself falling victim to your own attack.

- The ability to Jump shoot in Aqua Road
If you can't do this you obviously have Down Syndrome or you are just not right for this game!

- The skill called Puppet
An Archer skill that is extremely helpful whilst conducting this dangerous mission. It is optional as I have made quite the number of kills without it, but it is quite the big help when dealing with these tricky mother fuckers.

Before you embark!
Before you embark on your everlasting journey etc etc, you must learn the Goby map. You must memorize every crack of this map. You must spend COUNTLESS hours in this map, memorizing the spawn points of players and spawn points of monsters and the houses. Now, before I post my actual guide, I will just assume you all know the map and know what I am talking about when I say the top and bottom etc, and hopefully you'll recognize the points of the map where each SS is taken!

The MAIN tactic.
Your main tactic in killing those nasty Chief Bandits is to get into range of the house and attack. When you are in range of a house and inflict damage upon it, it will cast a spell. This spell is called Def. up. If it does not cast Def. up it will cast a STRONG spell that deals easily 2.1k damage. If a house has already cast Def. up, it cannot cast it again after the duration of the spell (10 seconds) has been exceeded. If the house cannot cast Def. up, it will cast it's killer Magic Attack that deals massive damage!

First, you must swim into range of the house, which means you have to pretty close to it. You then attack the house; I personally like to use 2-3 arrow rains or strafe. If you have done this correctly the house will cast Def. up and then cast it's spell. If you stick around for a few more seconds it will cast its magic attack.

You want to wait for a CB to start dropping their Mesos before you go in for a kill. You will want them to drop around 3-4 bags. After they have dropped you go in and attack the house. You wait for Def. up, and right when you see the magic attack animation, you want to swim up, or to the sides, outside of the range of the house. If you have done right, the house will unleash it's powerful magic attack upon the Chief Bandit. If he does not have enough HP to survive it, he will drop dead instantly. If he has more than enough, you may want to see below and see the advanced techniques. Remember, you only want to target level 7x to level 8x Chief Bandits. The higher the level the harder to kill and more strategy to kill! I've been known to kill level 9x CBs with this method.

==========================================================

The Battle Plan
There is quite a few methods to killing these rodents, if I must. I will show you around the map and the different ways to attack the houses. If you are a hermit, you will just have to bear with me because you do not have a AoE attack. Hermits, the pictures below will not help you very much in some situations, but might help a bit in others. I made this guide primarily towards Archers because we are the best fitted for this sport! If you are not an Archer you can just ignore the puppet portions. Puppet it is not necessary in all situations but it helps tremendously as I said above. Remember, everything in this guide must be done FAST. I mean EXTREMELY fast. You have to catch them off guard for this to work in the most efficient way! You also have to be extremely precise, if you pineapple up, it may be your life instead of the Chief Bandit's.

Advanced Goby Killing!
This is for you guys who are already familiar with the basics. There are a few extra fun things you could to make your Goby killing experience a little bit better.

- After death of the Chief Bandit, you take your trusty pet and command to poop on the rotting corpse of the dead bandit that you once knew. This technique just further humiliates the Chief Bandit that you have murdered him and you have so much respect for him that would let your pet take a dump on his casket.

- Looting his/her Meso Explosion money. If you catch a CB before they are about to explode (walking away from house, coming out of dark sight and casting Meso Guard), you walk up and you spam potions and loot all of his/her money that they dropped to ME. After you looted their money they usually exclaim something rather ridiculous like, "wtp noob u took my mony". Proceed to kill them. Follow up with poop.

- Laughing and taunting. idk. just do it. lolcb.

===========================================================

Conclusion
By the time you've finished reading this guide, you have probably already thought about going to Gobys and going on a relentless CB killing spree. Nothing is stopping you, do it. Be a bad ass. You all should be blood-thirsty monsters now. Now go, young Mardians! Go to Gobys! Just remember, stay the pineapple out of map, or I will kill you. srs. I am the only person you have to fear.

Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea

Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea is a hand-drawn animated film by the Japanese anime studio Studio Ghibli, to be written and directed by famed anime filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki. It will be Miyazaki's eighth film to be made under Ghibli.

It is scheduled to be released on July 19, 2008.

My only concern is that he's done making mature dreamland movies. I really liked his movies with all the fantasy, a little power struggle, a few drops of blood, and some real suspense. I don't really think that a movie with the main characters a fish and a 5 year old will be able to have that... emotional pull his older works had.

Still, I want to see this movie. Sad

  Money Making. :o

Ok, so I'm thinking of making a Pirate in Yellonde, if it comes out before/with them. The only fundage I'm thinking of getting is NX. After exhausting 200 or so dollars in NX, I have no intention of buying more. So after looking through my other characters and trying to liquidate my unused, rusting gear, I'm wondering what the easiest way to get more items/gear to Trade-ify would be. I've still got a half dozen sets of Tobi to sell in Khaini, so I can still use my sin if he'd be faster than going to Kradia or something and making a new character. :/

So, what's the fastest way to make money via Trade? I managed to sell a Man Showa Towel pretty fast the other day, at only 30k mesos for 110 NX, it's not that bad. :f6:

One point:
I know Trade dun work in the new server for a while, I want the NX for Gach, possibly, and AP resets, ect.
