Wani's Rough Guide to an Un-HP-washing Dark Knight
Posted by: Wani - 2008-07-07, 09:44 PM - Forum: Warrior - Replies (40)

(Yes, I just c&p'ed this from sleepywood)

I'm a level 140 Dark Knight, without any HP washing, and to be honest, we have it tough. We need to max (or pseudo-max) at least 2 skills before our main 4th job skill is useful, but! Here's how I think it can be done best. Or, my rough build, or how I'd have done it if I had I had a little more experience or guidance on 4th job. So, let's go!

L120 - 1 Rush (1), 2 Beholder (2)
L121 - 3 Beholder (5)
L122 - 3 Beholder (8)
L123 - 2 Beholder (10), 1 Maple Warrior (1)

Rush needs to be one of your first skills, or you need to have a point ready to put on it when you can do the quest. It's essential, really. However, level 1 is plenty for a long time.

Beholder comes next because that's the first skill that will make you stronger. The extra 20% mastery is passive, so you don't need to summon the beholder (It makes a nice wee waste of 60 MP for a kinda cool effect though Big Grin)

L124 - 3 Maple Warrior (4)
L125 - 3 Maple Warrior (7)
L126 - 2 Maple Warrior (9), 1 Berserk (1)

I put Maple Warrior next because, despite the fact that if you party, you'll almost certainly have it anyway, I've found myself soloing way too much, and I don't know what I'd do without it. It helps, trust me.
EDIT: After what banditcom said, getting Maple Warrior later could be a good idea. I found the extra damage useful, but if you're partying a lot, there's really no point, and as he said, early Stance would probably be more useful.

L127 - 3 Berserk (4)
L128 - 3 Berserk (7)
L129 - 3 Berserk (10)
L130 - 3 Berserk (13)
L131 - 3 Berserk (16)
L132 - 3 Berserk (19)
L133 - 1 Berserk (20), 2 Power Stance (2)

Berserk next, because why not? Despite it being mostly useless for now, there are places where it helps. You can use it on weaker bosses, such as mushmom, geist balrog if your APQ party has no healer, or on weaker mobs, such as the Bain armory (Although I've found that to be bad exp)

However, if you can't get a Berserk 20 mastery book, don't bother getting more than 5 berserk. Cap your berserk at 5 until you have a mastery book for it, because L10 berserk is pointless. Don't bother with it. So, if you don't have a Berserk 20 mastery book, save your points or just continue with the next skill:

L134 - 3 Power Stance (5)
L135 - 3 Power Stance (8)
L136 - 2 Power Stance (10), 1 Aura of the Beholder (1)

Power Stance next because, as a DK, you're probably bossing fairly often, and it is really handy, and it does help with training, despite what people say. If you're hitting a mob and you don't get hit back, it helps you kill it faster.

L137 - 3 Aura of the Beholder (4)
L138 - 3 Aura of the Beholder (7)
L139 - 3 Aura of the Beholder (10)
L140 - 3 Aura of the Beholder (13)
L141 - 3 Aura of the Beholder (16)
L142 - 3 Aura of the Beholder (19)
L143 - 3 Aura of the Beholder (22)
L144 - 3 Aura of the Beholder (25)

This is the first of the two skills that will make your berserking life a lot easier. Since I started maxing this, I've found it useful, I no longer need to use HP pots when I'm doing cake (It's L13 for me right now), which I know, is a weak monster, but it just goes to show that it is helpful. 500 HP every 4 seconds is nice, and if you don't need a heal, it saves up the heal until you get hit.

Another note is this skill will not take you out of berserk. So if your berserking limit at L144 is 4350 or so, it won't heal you until you get below 3850 HP. And, like I said above, it will save up your heal until you get hit below there.

By this point, you really need L20 berserk, because you should (I might be wrong, I'm not quite 144) be able to berserk at himes.

L145 - 3 Power Stance (13)
L146 - 3 Power Stance (16)
L147 - 3 Power Stance (19)

More Power Stance now is optional, it's what I'll be doing because I boss run often. If you boss plenty too, go ahead with L20 Stance or save points for it (As, since Pap is being stingy to me, I'm likely to wind up doing), otherwise, skip it until later.

L148 - 1 Power Stance (20), 2 Achilles (2)
L149 - 3 Achilles (5)
L150 - 3 Achilles (8)
L151 - 3 Achilles (11)
L152 - 3 Achilles (14)
L153 - 3 Achilles (17)
L154 - 3 Achilles (20)

This is the other skill which will help your berserking. This lowers your damage by 10%. On himes, this is about 170 damage, down to 1500-1600, on skelegons, this is about 330 damage, down to ~3000, depending on what your DEF and such is. And yes, this works on all damage, including 1/1 attacks.

Another way to look at this skill is to consider it effectively increasing your maximum HP (Because you can take more hits), by 11% at L20. At L154, this makes your HP basically 17.2k or so, or a 1.7k HP boost.

As an aside, if, by some miracle, you manage to get and pass a L30 berserk book, put points on that ASAP. Not for the 30% extra damage, but for the 10% extra HP. It'll do a world of difference.

Otherwise...

L155 - 3 Berserk (23)
L156 - 3 Berserk (26)
L157 - 3 Berserk (29)
L158 - 1 Berserk (30), 2 Maple Warrior (11).

If you don't want to save SP, don't, otherwise save SP for Berserk 30. If you want, you can also start putting points on MW 20 if you happen to get that, or save points for it. Saving points for it is optional, I doubt I will, mostly because I don't need it for a while. It will make you more attractive in parties though/

L159 - 3 Maple Warrior (14)
L160 - 3 Maple Warrior (17)
L161 - 2 Maple Warrior (19), 1 Hex of the Beholder (1)

Again, saving points for MW is optional. If you want, you can also put a point on Hero's Will if you happen to be a good SED mule for Horntail. I don't see it as being too useful, but most skills from here are less useful, so order and such are entirely up to you.

L162 - 3 Hex of the Beholder (4)
L163 - 3 Hex of the Beholder (7)
L164 - 3 Hex of the Beholder (10)
L165 - 3 saved SP
L166 - 6 Hex of the Beholder (16)

You want to save SP there because you don't want L11-15 Hex of the Beholder. At these levels it gives 10 accuracy, 10 less than Bless will give you. You don't want that, so just save your SP until you can get it up to at least L16 (Similar to when you (probably) saved SP for Crusher when it was going to hit 1 monster, to skip that bit).

L167 - 3 Hex of the Beholder (19)
L168 - 1 Hex of the Beholder (20), 1 saved SP

Kinda big choice. Cap Hex of the Beholder at L20, before it gives atk buffs, or get it up to 25, which means you won't be able to use Beholder and Onyx Apples/Pineapple Chews at the same time. I'm probably going to get L25, and I'll simply not use my beholder if I want to use a better buff. In either case, you don't want L21-23 Hex of the Beholder. 24 is fine because that's the same as blood/warrior elixirs, 25 is better than both of those.

From there... up to you, really. Max Hex of the Beholder, if you want to, otherwise, use your points as you see fit. You probably should save SP for Berserk 30 and Maple Warrior 20 by here, or have the skills, and apart I'd recommend maxing Achilles next, or start getting Rush up to L28. I wouldn't bother with L29/30 Rush, they don't increase the range further, just the damage and the damage fails badly anyway. Power Stance L30 can wait until later, it's only 10% extra chance, and Monster Magnet just fails.

For convenience sake, skillbook locations:
Berserk: 20 - Zakum // 30 - Horntail
Power Stance: 20 - Papulatus Clock // 30 - Zakum
Achilles: 20 - Skeles (Not sure which, can someone answer?) // 30 - Manon
Rush: 20 - Left Pianus // 30 - Right Pianus
Maple Warrior: 20 - Horntail

The rest of the Dark Knight skills achieve higher levels from quests from the NPCs where you gain the skills.

So, any comments/suggestions/whatever?

  Between Window and Full Screen
Posted by: HiiEN - 2008-07-07, 09:28 PM - Forum: Technical Help - Replies (21)

I don't think it's just me, and it could be a graphics/processor issue. Is there some requirement to be able to run window mode smoothly? Because apparently I lag more in window mode than in full screen. I know this is NOT the case for everyone, it's even reversed for some people, which leads to more confusion for me.

Apparently the game tends to burn more CPU when running in window mode, and it's evident when I show the FPS in game and it randomly jumps to 300 and I get fast to slow to fast etc. FPS jumps. When running in full screen, the FPS remains at a constant 60, which is perfectly smooth and fine. Now I do want to run window mode, but with the issues on it for me right now it's too inconvenient to use. If anyone has any advice on how to fix it, or even just a reason why it's not working the way it should, any and all help would be appreciated. What I don't want is people posting saying "well it works fine for me I dunno about you" without even the slightest hint of a pointer or advice.

Anyways here's a few specs of my laptop, which I bought about two years ago:
Model: HP Pavilion dv8301nr
Processor: AMD Turion 64 ML-34
Speed: 1.79 GHz
RAM: 2.00 GB (upgraded from 512 MB)
OS: Windows XP
Graphics: ATi RADEON XPRESS 200M

Ultimate Skill Build Guide: Bishop Edition
Posted by: Furnost - 2008-07-07, 08:21 PM - Forum: Magician - Replies (15)

Hopefully this gets stickied ^^

Before I begin I must express that this is entirely my opinion and in no way is this the ABSOLUTE build for a Bishop...it's all about having fun and choosing what you want to choose. However, for those of you who are stuck and need some help this will hopefully give you some insight on what direction to take.

With the release of 4th job, Bishops have become a rather popular class to make (especially lukless) due to the immense power of Genesis vs. Skelegons. Now although there is not true way to skill build, Genesis can be a bigger pot burner than it already is if you put too many points into it at too low a level. Now I could just start at level 120 but what fun would that be ^^

Keep in mind the number in parenthesis ( ) is the number of skill points per level to put into the skill. If there is an 'x' followed by another number it means the amount of levels of that many skill points in the parenthesis you pump into that level.
For example: Level 14-19: Magic Claw (3) x 6 means from Level 14 to 19 you put 3 SP into Magic Claw each level.

Now to begin, everyone starts off as a Beginner @ level 1.

The level requirement to make your 1st Job Advancement as a Magician is level 8. Once you become level 8, talk to Grendel in the highest portal of Ellinia and you'll have your first set of skills to start mastering.

1st Job Advancement: Magician
You obtain the following skills as a Magician:
Improving MP Recovery
Improving MP Increase
Magic Guard
Magic Armor
Energy Bolt
Magic Claw

Now there are 2 different approaches you can take...to gain more MP overall, the 1 SP point you gain at level 8 when you make the advancement would go into Improving MP Recovery so you can max out Improving MP Increase faster; however, by doing this you'll be whacking away at monsters with your normal attack until level 13. For the patient people the build will be the following:

Level 8: Improving MP Recovery (1)
Level 9: Improving MP Recovery (3)
Level 10: Improving MP Recovery (1), Improving MP Increase (2)
Level 11-12: Improving MP Increase (3) x 2
Level 13: Improving MP Increase (2), Energy Boly (1)
Level 14-19: Magic Claw (3) x 6
Level 20: Magic Claw (2), Magic Guard (1)
Level 21-23: Improving MP Recovery (3) x 3
Level 24: Improving MP Recovery (2), Magic Guard (1)
Level 25-30: Magic Guard (3) x 6

For the impatient people who would rather have a magic attack quicker:

Level 8: Energy Bolt (1)
Level 9: Improving MP Recovery (3)
Level 10: Improving MP Recovery (2), Improving MP Increase (1)
Level 11-13: Improving MP Increase (3) x 3
Level 14-19: Magic Claw (3) x 6
Level 20: Magic Claw (2), Magic Guard (1)
Level 21-23: Improving MP Recovery (3) x 3
Level 24: Improving MP Recovery (2), Magic Guard (1)
Level 25-30: Magic Guard (3) x 6

As you can see there isn't too much of a difference. By level 30 the levels of the skills should be the following:

Improving MP Recovery [16] MAXED
Improving MP Increase [10] MAXED
Magic Guard [20] MAXED
Magic Armor [0]
Magic Claw [20] MAXED
Energy Bolt [1]
-------------------------------------------------------
Now that you're level 30 it's time to do the job advancement and become a Cleric. For the sake of not getting off track of the actual thread I won't explain how to do the job advancement quest (I'll let someone else tackle that =P).

2nd Job Advancement: Cleric
You obtain the following skills as a Cleric:
MP Eater
Heal
Invincible
Teleport
Bless
Holy Arrow

As stated before, there are multiple builds out there, some like to max Holy Arrow, other don't. Personally, I think Holy Arrow is a huge waste considering you get Angel Ray at 4th job which is way more powerful at level 5 then Holy Arrow maxed lol. For this build I won't make two ways...most mages choose to pump their first SP into teleport just to get around faster although it is a big MP burner (60mp needed for level 1). Either way you'll level to 31 fast so it doesn't make a difference. Normally, I would suggest maxing Bless before MP Eater, but due to the multiple maps that allow for fast leveling at low levels, MP Eater maxed early on will reduce MP pot consumption.

Level 30: Teleport (1)
Level 31-40: Heal (3) x 10
Level 41-46: Invincible (3) x 6
Level 47: Invincible (2), MP Eater (1)
Level 48-53: MP Eater (3) x 6
Level 54: MP Eater (1), Bless (2)
Level 55-60: Bless (3) x 6
Level 61-66: Teleport (3) x 6
Level 67: Teleport (1), Holy Arrow (2)
Level 68-70: Holy Arrow (3) x 3

By the time you're level 70 levels of the skills for 2nd job should be the following:

MP Eater [20] MAXED
Heal [30] MAXED
Invincible [20] MAXED
Teleport [20] MAXED
Bless [20] MAXED
Holy Arrow [11] (could also put into Magic Armor if you want but Bless overrides it)
-------------------------------------------------------
So now you're level 70 and it's time for the 3rd job advancement...again not posting how to get it.

3rd Job Advancement: Priest
You obtain the following skills as a Priest:

Elemental Resistance
Dispel
Holy Symbol
Mystic Door
Shining Ray
Doom
Summon Dragon

Now point blank the #1 skill to get ASAP is Holy Symbol. It's a must for training parties and the sooner you have it maxed the sooner you'll be wanted. However, it wouldn't hurt to put the 1st SP you get at the job advancement at level 70 into Shining Ray so you have another attack besides heal and the fact that the lowest level Holy Symbol can get maxed is 81 regardless of whether that point goes into Dispel or not. Also, since Doom is pretty much an amusement skill and you only really need level 15 Summon Dragon to get Bahamut at 4th job, it may not hurt to max out Mystic Door before going back to these two skills because it would lighten the amount of Magic Rock consumption.

Level 70: Shining Ray (1)
Level 71: Dispel (3)
Level 72-81: Holy Symbol (3) x 10
Level 82: Elemental Resistance (2), Mystic Door (1)
Level 83-88: Elemental Resistance (3) x 6
Level 89-97: Shining Ray (3) x 9
Level 98: Shining Ray (2), Doom (1)
Level 99-103: Summon Dragon (3) x 5
Level 104-108: Dispel (3) x 5
Level 109: Dispel (2), Mystic Door (1)
Level 110-115: Mystic Door (3) x 6
Level 116-120: Summon Dragon (3) x 5

By the time you're level 120, the level of each skill for 3rd job should be the following:

Elemental Resistance [20] MAXED
Dispel [20] MAXED
Holy Symbol [30] MAXED
Mystic Door [20] MAXED
Shining Ray [30] MAXED
Doom [1]
Summon Dragon [30] MAXED
-------------------------------------------------------
Now the time you've all been waiting for...120 levels of hard work and you've finally made it to the 4th Job Advancement.

4th Job Advancement: Bishop
You obtain the following skills as a Bishop:

Maple Warrior
Big Bang
Mana Reflection
Bahamut
Infinity
Holy Shield
Resurrection
Angel Ray
Genesis
Awakening

Now skill builds for Bishops are vast because depending on if you decide you want to and are in a position where you can go to Horntail, your build might differ from a Bishop who has no intention of going to Horntail. This build will slightly reflect a Horntail (HT) Bishop build. In addition, this build is going to try to focus on lower pot consumption by keeping Genesis at steady levels dependant on your character's level...regardless, Genesis does waste a lot of pots no matter what level it is. I suggest maxing out Bahamut before Angel Ray because Bahamut can hit up to 3 monsters and when training at skelegons, his hit can be the deciding factor in whether you have to waste another Genesis cast to kill skelegons.

Level 120: Genesis (2), Resurrection (1)
Level 121: Genesis (3)
Level 122-124: Maple Warrior (3) x 3
Level 125: Genesis (3)
Level 126: Genesis (2), Infinity (1)
Level 127-129: Resurrection (3) x 3
Level 130-139: Bahamut (3) x 10 [Can replace with Angel Ray]
Level 140: Genesis (3)
Level 141: Genesis (2), Holy Shield (1)
Level 142-151: Angel Ray (3) x 10 [Can replace with Bahamut]
Level 152: Genesis (3)
Level 153: Genesis (2), Maple Warrior (1)
Level 154-156: Maple Warrior (3) x 3
Level 157: Maple Warrior (1), Genesis (2)
Level 158-159: Genesis (3) x 2
Level 160: Genesis (2), Holy Shield (1)
Level 161-169: Holy Shield (3) x 9
Level 170: Holy Shield (1), Infinity (2)
Level 171-180: Mana Reflection (3) x 10
Level 181-189: Infinity (3) x 9
Level 190: Big Bang (2), Awakening (1)
Level 191-199: Big Bang (3) x 9
Level 200: Big Bang (1), Hero's Echo (1) [Is a beginner skill that comes with 1 SP so 4th job SP isn't used]

Since I'm not level 200 yet I can't confirm of Hero's Echo is an SP needed skill and if it is how much SP is needed for it. If anyone can confirm any information on Hero's Echo let me know I'd greatly appreciate it.

Like I said before, this is only one of the many builds people do. This is also highly dependant on when you get certain skillbooks, mainly MW20 and Gen30, that drop from Horntail.

Hopefully this guide helps you figure out what the best and funnest way to play your Bishop is. Happy Mapling Kiss
