The two things I would like to talk about today are SB-1322 and the video from last night, because while the former is clearly the more atrocious, the latter does also need people actually talking about it and currently the news media is almost completely ignoring it, and even the police are saying these 4 black guys "clearly only abducted and tortured this white guy because he was mentally handicapped".

As to the first, I'm not even going to provide a link to it, just take a few seconds to google it and cringe at how fucking stupid California is. Even saying anything about it will probably trigger some people because "no you are getting it wrong you are not putting it into the perfect scenario that the law is supposed to function in, look at it this way and ignore all the other pomegranate it does!", but I guess I kind of have to. SB-1322 legalizes child prostitution in California. It does not DIRECTLY legalize it, but it legalizes it nonetheless. The Californian government SAYS it is not meant to do this, but looking at the actual wording of the law, that's precisely what it does. It is DESIGNED so that child sex slaves are not prosecuted and are not breaking the law by selling their bodies, only their holders are, which, sounds like a perfect reasonable law if you ignore the fact that that's always been the fucking case and they were never considered criminals for being sex slaves to begin with, but let's ignore that for a moment. The unintended side effect of this law is this; because of the wording, children can now essentially tell a police officer trying to bring them in to go pineapple themselves and stop infringing on their constitutional rights, and based on this law, they would be entirely within their own rights to do so; the holders will inform them of this even if they aren't aware of it themselves. Guess what the main way to capture sex traffickers is? Getting the children to testify against them. How do you get someone to testify if they are no longer committing any crime and can no longer even be taken off the streets?

I fully expect this law to hit a brick wall on the first supreme court hearing and be ruled unconstitutional, but until then, child prostitution is now legal in California, good job California, you have such a stellar track record recently!

The second is the video of the 4 black guys torturing an mentally handicapped white guy. I would love to link it, but youtube removes all videos of it, because apparently BlackLivesMatter beating up a handicapped kid is more problematic than all of the ISIS beheading videos that they keep up. The few news media outlets that have covered this have either stated it was not based on race, not even given the races, or edited the content massively to make it look much less deplorable, none of them have left in the "pineapple all white people" phrase. The local police department had this load of dogshit to say

Quote: The Latest on the beating of a man in Chicago that was broadcast live on Facebook (all times local):

Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said Thursday morning that charges are expected soon against four black suspects. Guglielmi says the suspects made "terrible racist statements" during the attack, but that investigators believe the victim was targeted because he has special needs, not because of his race.

Guglielmi says it's possible the suspects were trying to extort something from the victim's family.

Video from Chicago media outlets appears to show someone off-camera using profanities about "white people" and President-elect Donald Trump. Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson said Wednesday that the victim has mental health challenges, and he called the video "sickening."
Trump lost almost a billion dollars due to a tanked early-nineties economy being utterly horrible for his business. So he declared his loss on his tax form in order to mitigate the effects of that loss...taking advantage of a new set of tax laws that were written (partially) and pushed by...then-president Bill Clinton.

And apparently he had a fiduciary obligation to do so? Or according to dailykos (not exactly a trustworthy source especially being an "opinion" column) he actually didn't?

Why are people angry??
Can someone explain this to me? Maybe someone with a liberal-slant and experience with tax law who is on this website

Gyeonggi Bundang Police said Monday that they are reviewing an arrest warrant for the 33-year-old Chinese national surnamed Lee.

Lee is in Korea on a three-month visitor permit. The car he drove belonged to his older brother, who lives here.

Lee admitted to the wrongdoing and told the police that he had been angry that he had become addicted to games created by the company. He said he had committed the act on impulse, after drinking.

Lee’s blood alcohol level was over the legal limit at around the time of the incident. He does not have a valid driver’s license.

Truck rams into a crowd of people on Bastille Day, people jump out of truck and fire bullets into the remainder of the crowd.
It's hard to untangle the motives of the driver, and we will probably never know, since he was killed.
We clearly need sensible automotive legislation. It's easier for a teenager to go out and buy a truck than it is for him to get his hands on a book. And that needs to change.

Quote:Britain has voted to leave the European Union, with the Leave campaign securing around 51.8 per cent of the vote.

David Cameron has resigned as Prime Minister.

While England voted overwhelmingly for Brexit, Scotland and Northern Ireland backed Remain. Statements are expected to be made by Sinn Fein and the SNP later today calling for a breakaway from the Union. London backed Remain but the turnout was lower than expected because of bad weather.

The pound crashed to the lowest level since 1985 as sterling fell below $1.35. Complacency about a Brexit outcome will come clear this morning, as out of hours trading suggests that the FTSE 100 will drop by 8.8pc, or by some 560 points. The fall would be the third worst in history if stocks ended the day down as sharply.

Much bigger list of information at http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-politics-32810887

A couple things that caught my eye in the second article.

Quote:How long will it take for Britain to leave the EU?

This was a question asked by many people. The minimum period after a vote to leave will be two years. During that time Britain will continue to abide by EU treaties and laws, but not take part in any decision-making, as it negotiated a withdrawal agreement and the terms of its relationship with the now 27 nation bloc. In practice it may take longer than two years, depending on how the negotiations go.
Could MPs block an EU exit?

Michael, from East Sussex asks an intriguing question - could the necessary legislation pass the Commons if all SNP and Lib Dems, nearly all Labour and many Conservative MPs were in favour of staying?

The answer is that technically MPs could block an EU exit - but it would be seen as political suicide to go against the will of the people as expressed in a referendum.

The referendum result is not legally binding - Parliament still has to pass the laws that will get Britain out of the 28 nation bloc, starting with the repeal of the 1972 European Communities Act.

The withdrawal agreement also has to be ratified by Parliament - the House of Lords and/or the Commons could vote against ratification, according to a House of Commons library report.

It adds: "If the Commons resolves against ratification, the treaty can still be ratified if the Government lays a statement explaining why the treaty should nonetheless be ratified and the House of Commons does not resolve against ratification a second time within 21 days (this process can be repeated ad infinitum)."

In practice, Conservative MPs who voted to remain in the EU would be whipped to vote with the government. Any who defied the whip would have to face the wrath of voters at the next general election.

One scenario that could see the referendum result overturned, is if MPs forced a general election and a party campaigned on a promise to keep Britain in the EU, got elected and then claimed that the election mandate topped the referendum one.

Two-thirds of MPs would have to vote for a general election to be held before the next scheduled one in 2020.

(note, questions answered in the second article become more and more mundane the further it goes on, I wouldn't read all of it unless you are really just interested)
