MapleStory is a constantly evolving game, full of heroes, villains, and everything in between. But none of them are as important to us as you, our players who make Maple World what it is! The history of MapleStory is a long and winding one, but now we'd like to turn the attention to you, and hear more about your own journeys that you've taken as MapleStory has grown over the years. For today's edition of What's Your MapleStory, we spoke to Glow about their journey through MapleStory!



How were you first introduced to MapleStory?

I was first introduced to MapleStory by one of my older cousins, back when I was still in grade school. MapleStory was my very first video game that I have ever played, and it made me realize that I really enjoy playing MMORPGs. I distinctly remember watching my cousin play an Assassin class, attacking with Steely Throwing Stars, and endlessly hunting a giant Orange Mushroom, known as Mushmom. After seeing the adorable monsters and all of the other Maplers hunting together in various party quests and hunting maps, I decided to take the jump and see what Maple World had to offer. After making several characters and finding out that I did no damage and kept dying, I ended up playing as a Magician, eventually job advancing to a Cleric. The community and simplicity of the game during that time is probably what kept me playing, and still, to this day.

What is your favorite memory while playing MapleStory?

My favorite memory of MapleStory was when I had job advanced to a Cleric and was able to heal and support party members at Henesys Hunting Grounds 1. I remember standing on top of the hay bales at the very top of Henesys Hunting Grounds 1, providing heals to the party members that were fighting, all while staying safe from the vicious Green Mushrooms. Eventually, I realized that leveling at the Hunting Grounds past my second job advancement was even slower than the snails that wander on the base level of the map. This experience made me realize that I loved doing one thing: helping others.

Which class do you main and what in particular do you like about it?

My favorite & main class is...you guessed it! Bishop! I love the Bishop class because it is the perfect class for party play and group bossing. You need heals? Here, have a fountain (I know my party members will get a good laugh out of this..)! Party-wide Final Damage boost? Say less. Need to turn up the damage? Time to go into Vengeance mode. Party member in undead status? HEAL!.... oopsie, wrong button... The Bishop is the perfect example of what makes a class well-rounded, and that is why I continue to play Bishop today.

What do you enjoy about MapleStory today?

Today, my favorite part of MapleStory is the community & players all working towards a common goal: to get stronger (yes, including FashionStory). I enjoyed the community so much that in late 2020, I submitted an application to join the MapleStory Volunteer Moderator community team. Being part of such a vibrant and diverse community really deepened my love for MapleStory, so much that I started to look forward to playing after work. Shortly after joining the community, I started playing together with a friend that chatted with me in the MapleStory Discord. That friend introduced me to another group of wonderful individuals, who after several years, still stuck together with one common goal in mind: to enjoy each other's company and progress through the game together. If it wasn't for this wonderful group of friends, I don't believe I could have progressed far at all. Never in a million years would I have thought that we'd be fighting and clearing bosses like Kalos and Kaling, but here we are. If you're reading this, I want to thank you. Thank you to Ever, THE Nova, Armth, ShinYoungWoö, GoodNightBae, Ryunon, Squishiest, Nanabelle, pogrs, Mysty, and Viola, for giving me a place to be myself and taking me in. There's no doubt that there are other individuals that have had an influence during my time in MapleStory. I simply cannot name them all, but you know who you are.
