Actually, not just Southperry - I won't have any contact with the outside world for at least 6 weeks. Why? As a lot of people already know, I am leaving for boot camp for the US Navy in a few hours, and chances are that I'll only get a chance to call home once a week tops, let alone have any access to a computer. I am signed to be schooled as an Intelligence Specialist, and I plan to take oppurtunities to become an officer as they are presented to me (but still specialize in Intelligence). I eventually aim to be in the FBI, so this is the first major step in getting to that goal for me (government organizations REALLY like military backgrounds, and the training in Intel ought to serve me well in the future). I chose Intel because I HATE not knowing what is going on around me, and I will have access to information that maybe nobody but an elite few will know (and no, I will not be telling you).
For those that are going to ask, yes, I was accepted at numerous colleges, and I originally planned to attend one. I sat down one day and did some serious thinking though, and decided that I wasn't quite ready for college, and that some time as an Enlisted in the Navy would do a lot of good for me. I have the utmost respect for the military and the job they do, and am proud to be on my way to becoming a sailor.
I'll read what I can of the posts here while I enjoy my last few hours at home for a long time. I'm going to miss you all

Be safe and thank you for serving our country and protecting us! I hope you have an enjoyable morning before you leave.
Intelligence is a great place to be. My friend is in the Navy doing Intelligence and she loves it. Just becareful and don't turn into one of those people that think everyone is out to get them. Like the guy from that Mel Gibson/Julia Roberts movie. =)

Lulz, I'm already like that - spend a year posting on basil and you'll see trolls every time you speak in the real world...

Enlighten the ignorant pineapple here, because when I think of Intelligence Specialist, I think of gathering all kind of intel, some sort of tech spy. O_o
Anyhow, best of luck to you.

haha. It's so true. Well just have fun and be safe. I'm glad that the military allows for people to serve our country and also learn the things they want to learn.
If I wasn't scared of some douche bag drill instructor yelling at me and making me cry, I would of joined when I was 18.

Pretty close - ever played a game/seen a movie where someone had a huge projector/display and is explaining the mission to everyone? That's basically going to be me, except the job is so much more - I'll have access to information from all kinds of sources, and my job will be to make sense of it all and to recommend courses of action based on it. There are some other things that I may be doing as well, but that's one of the more likely ones.

Pretty interesting role. I guess there'll be no firearms for you, then.

Maybe, maybe not - for the most part though, no, I won't be seeing direct combat, because Intel Specs are not a good thing to have captured by an enemy, let alone killed.
