The purpose of this thread is to detail some of the little known quests and other things in GMS that may be missed. This was specially requeste, but it's a pretty wide and variable topic so there may be things that I skip that others think deserve inclusion; just suggest these in the thread and if I agree I'll add them to this post. Do note that this thread is not primarily for the "Lost" style quests but rather ordinary quests that have unusual prerequisites or might otherwise be missed. Lost quests are already well documented in the "Quest Kings" thread. I also imagine many members of Southperry won't be surprised by anything here, but this is for those who don't know to learn.
Log quests
1. Ancient Artifacts
Ancient Artifacts is a quest that goes directly into your Complete section upon showing either a set 1 or set 2 ITCG etc. item to John Barricade. Allow me to clarify momentarily here: there are actually 2 quests called "Ancient Artifacts", one of which is in the Victoria section and the other which goes in the Masteria section. Ancient Artifacts in the Victoria section was just for set 1; it is no longer available. Ancient Artifacts in the Masteria section works for either set 1 or set 2 items, and is still available.
Applicable items:
Taru Totem
Mystic Astrolabe
Antellion Relic
Naricain Jewel
Subani Ankh
Stone Tiger Head
Typhon Crest
LeFay Jewel
Pharoah's Wrapping
Crystal Shard
2. Interstellar Relics
Interstellar Relics is a similar quest to Ancient Artifacts, but it's for the "high tech" Foxwit etc. Items from Set 1. As such, it wasn't replaced when Set 2 was released. Note that for both of these quests, you merely have to show the etc. item to the NPC. You do not need to actually forge anything. They are also both useful to learn more about Masteria's backstory.
Applicable items:
Dark Matter
Vorticular Gyro
Blinking Dingbat
Zeta Residue
Black Versal Materia
3. The Missing Dropship
At level 40, should you come into possession of a SOS Letter, a quest in Aqua Road from Robinson will become available. Robinson was a pilot from Omega Sector who was lost at sea. However, you won't learn this until Level 50, from "The Missing Dropship" quest. The catch? "The Missing Dropship" requires that you haven't yet started Robinson's quest. For older players, this wasn't an issue, as Omega Sector came out in GMS before Aqua Road. Newer players who are anxious for quests, however, may easily fall victim to this.
4. Cool as Ice
This quest isn't really a secret, but it has so many prerequisites that it may as well be. Not only does it require that you have completed almost every single Masteria quest, but it also requires that you have a Mark of Naricain equipped. This means that even though the quest's level requirement is only 90, you can't actually complete it until at least 110, and for most classes you'll need to be substantially higher to get through the CKPQ battle alive.
5. The Lost Letter
In the Nautilus, on the upper deck, there is a trash can NPC. When you click on this trash can NPC, you will receive a crumpled letter item, which activates a quest from Muirhat. This quest in turn is the prerequisite for about 10 later "Eliminating" quests from Muirhat, so missing out on this can be pretty detrimental.
Extra dialogs, bonus rewards, and other information
1. Lost in Translation
Upon receiving the Coded Communique from Jack, you are told to take it to John. John fails at translating it with Hyper Glyphs and so he asks you to take it around town. Most people are aware that Elpam has the correct translation, so they head straight for him, but you can also show the coded communique to Lita, Mayor Slimm, The Glimmer Man, and Foxwit. The Glimmer Man's commentary is particularly interesting.
2. Blocktopus is an Alien?
If you saw my thread in the Quest section, you'd know about this one. Basically, Dr. Kim asks you for just one lousy Bloctopus Keychain. Seems too easy, and he doesn't even give you anything for doing it. Why would a quest like this exist? Well, there's a secret to this quest. Bloctopus occasionally drops an item called "Blocktopus Blueprint", and if you have this item in possession when you complete the quest, you'll get a scroll and some experience. Much better than nothing.
3. Gathering up the Lacking Ingredients
Similar to the previous one, this quest has an absurdly low requirement of just one etc. item, a ginseng. However, instead of hunting for a special rare item to get a good reward, Mr. Ku wants you to get as many ginseng etc. items as you can. The rewards start improving at 100, and they'll get better up until you hit 1,000, after which it's the same no matter how many.
4. T-1337's purpose
This isn't a quest that goes in your log, but it's similar in terms of how it operates. If you've ever tried to talk to T-1337 before, you probably got snubbed and he said nothing, leading many to assume he doesn't have a use yet. This is not the case; by hunting out deep in the Jungle, you can find an item called Diferium Fuel Cell. By taking this item to T-1337, you can produce extremely powerful but short duration potions. Occasionally you may see "Triferium" fuel cells in the Free Market. These were formerly available through TCG set 3, but since TCG seems to be out of print, these will likely become more and more rare, so the main way to utilize T-1337 will be through Diferium. The T-1 Socket Adapters, Jumper Cables, and Sparkplugs you can find from NLC's mechanical monsters are also used in this process, though they are much more common than the rare Diferium.
Couldn't think of anything else. If there's something perplexing you that you think I might be able to explain, or if there's a quest/activity you think deserves to be on here, bring it up!
