I think that Nexon dropped the ball on the timing (probably doing something in this style might have been more ideal like 5 or 10 years ago) and I also do not think that this project entirely absolves Nexon of its past sins but having said that, Worlds does seem to be kind of interesting. The program allows players to either play user created games or create games to a certain degree. The creation aspect of Worlds appears to come with a lot of options but I have my doubts about how useful it can be to your average person walking down the street. (there is a little bit of a learning curve, unless you already know about the back end details of the game) On the other hand this means it is possible to create something close to a recreation of a game that is quite similar to what a Classic Maplestory might look like. Although unless someone manages to bring over content from the Korea version, its probably going to be a good long while before anything will be able to get even remotely close.
Even so, I find it somewhat remarkable that a program like worlds got released. Maplestory Worlds does seem to have the technical potential to make a game that resembles a Classic Maplestory and as a bonus, users get to create other Maplestory themed games of their choice. So, Worlds is not a "Classic Maplestory" server per se but it is something kind of sort of almost maybe close to one. (shrugs)
Given this I would say people get to choose either turning around and going the other way or to once again join forces with Nexon, despite all of its quirks and everything.
