As impossible or unimaginable as it may sound, I was reading about this today.
The machine is called the LHC (Large Hadron Collider). Its a machine released in Geneva, a city of Switzerland. This machine has a 27km circumference, and its ~130 metres underground.
The purpose of this machine is as the name says it, to collide hadrons. But, what are Hadrons? Hadrons in a short term, are particles that are formed by a strong interaction of subparticles called, Mesons and Baryons.
The machine will work as follow:
1) They will pick up protons and put them in opposite directions in the magnetic core (27 kms of circumference) at almost the speed of light. Thats almost 50 thousand times around the ring, in a second.
2) After, they will line up the protons in order for them to collide.
3) The concentraded energy in result, will give a picture of the universe fractions of seconds after the Big Bang.
This could bring to the human eyes the never seen particle called "Higgs boson", the observation of what could confirm how elementary particles acquire properties such as mass. The Higgs boson would be a significant step in the Grand Unified Theory, that tries to unify three of the four fundamental forces: electromagnetism, the strong nuclear force, and the weak nuclear force. The other fundamental force is gravity, which the Higgs boson could explain why its so weak compared to others.
Many scientifics have said that this project could lead to many catastrophes such as, a black hole that could eat up the whole earth, or universe as we know it. Yet, the other side of the scientifics that support the project, say that even if we get eaten by a blackhole, we won't feel a thing.
Others, say that it can create a big bang, but the LHC cannot generate the energies found in the Big Bang. All it can do, is recreate the conditions of how matters behave fractions of seconds after the big bang, and take a snapshot of it.
The source of this is: Wikipedia, and Youtube videos.

Blackholes are generally extremely heated are they not?
Yeah, of course we won't feel a thing. We'll be FRIED ALIVE so fast that we won't feel a thing.

Black holes itself are colder than any material a human has created. Yet, because of the material it absorbs, and this rubs each other at a speed of light, which heats up into hundreds of million degrees, but the radiation of this is still under study.

Hahaha... the LHC. I remember it it was going to be launched about two months ago, and it got delayed again.
It's interesting to read the wikipedia article. Apparently like one-thousand scientists and physicists from all over the world are taking part in this. There've even been a couple of deaths in the making of it.

Interesting. I remember reading about miniblack holes eating the Earth. xD
Beloved, a Black Hole is a star. Under the Event Horizon, it is extremely hot, yes. However, that radiation can't escape because of Gravity. Well, there's Hawking Radiaton, but that's... weird. D:
The gravity is so strong it warps reality, so if we were sucked in by a Black Hole, heat is the last of our worries. (Spaghettification is lol)
Also, who names those particles? "Meson"? Sounds like something from New Leaf City. ._.
Cenario seems to know what he's talking about, while I'm just a highschool BlackHole fan that's self taugh. Corrections where need please. :[

Come on people. You're being racially insensitive by calling it a black hole.

I really hope that "SciGuy" article is a joke.

I'm in Dallas too...
I hate it when this stuff happens. I hate people that are racist, but things like this just make me feel numb when someone actually is racist. It's like crying wolf all the time over anything involving something "black". I remember a person screaming at a Burger King worker because they had their Blackened Chicken sandwich a few years back. Claimed it was racist to take something stereotypical like chicken and say that it was "blackened".
I don't have any problem with people of different race...I just hate people that use it as an excuse for everything being wrong in their world.

I'm seriously loling at how talking about supermassive black holes in a thread caleld "The end of the universe" somehow had racism thrown in to it.
I hope I'm not being racist when I choose fried rice over white rice.

I think it would only be racist if you asked for white rice and were white...I could see someone throwing a fit over there not being "black rice".

Perhaps some already think it's racist because they call it "fried rice" and not "black rice".
However, the second someone renames it or changes the name to "black rice", I could see a larger racist fit going on because the word "black" is involved.
Personally, I don't think racism exists until the person points it out to make it a racist situation.
For the black hole topic...I mean come on, it's a black hole.
We called it that a while ago; it's the scientific name we gave it.
I think most of us know that no one person has the ability to suck up everything into itself...so why compare a human to something so destructive?
As for what a black hole is: everything is sucked in, however, nothing is left alive.
No light, no nothing; it's dark. Maybe call it a dark hole? No wait, that's racist.
I personally found the situation in Dallas to be completely hilarious.
If you're in a meeting like that, at least see what they are trying to say instead of judging/trying to correct their words...or at least know what you are saying yourself.
When he tried to correct the guy by saying it was a white hole...did he even know what a white hole was?
It's a scientific term, not a racist...wait, was he trying to use a counter racist word? <.< Omg racist fight!
What about the white hole? "...white hole, a theoretical object that ejects matter from beyond its event horizon, rather than sucking it in...".
If a black hole is considered racist, then so is a white hole.
Eventually, you can't name anything without offending someone.
Back to the end of the universe: can a millimeter large black hole destroy the earth instantly? Or would it slowly eat up the Earth?
Why are we so interested in finding out how the big bang happened (if it did)?
If we try to replicate it just to take a picture...wouldn't we basically create yet another universe?

Im not very well informed in this, but I guess this could take in part of proving to the people who still don't believe, that the Big bang did happened.
And they are not making a replicate of the big bang, as I said, the LHC does not have the power to create another one. They are making extreme energy to generate the conditions, seconds AFTER the Big bang. That way they can explain the beginning of many things that are unknown until today such as the Higgs boson, which is hypothetical because we have never seen it before.
And you black hole question, I can't answer. Im not a specialist in this, I just saw this in the net the other days and investigated a little bit deeply but not to that extent.
And as for why are we so interested, you know scientist's strongest conviction is simple curiosity.

A Black Hole that small would be a Primordial Black Hole.
Black Hole Names and Sizes.
"However, if theoretical Hawking radiation does not actually exist, such primordial black holes would be extremely difficult, if not impossible, to detect in space due to their small size and lack of large gravitational influence."
A Hole that small wouldn't be able to suck in the Earth because it lacks the mass, and thus Gravity, to do so. If it gained more mass, it would become larger than a CM or so in diameter. :/

I didn't even know this was happening. o.o Looks like whenever I get back into school, my physics teachers are going to make me investigate about this. Roar.

If Earth was someone sucked into a blackhole, all of your telecommunications would instantly stop working.
But humans themselves would probably function as normal.

Wouldn't everything be crushed by the gravity? The inside of a black hole is a star, so we would be fried after being crushed by the incredible gravity. If we got close to the singularity....
