This is just baffling

I've heard many people complain about how Maple will suck every drop of RAM they have and run their CPU into the ground on the drop of a hat and basically can't be run with anything else...

But at this moment I'm playing Mabinogi, another Nexon game albeit by a different team, an actual 3D, textured, rendered game, and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, simultaneously on the same machine with no problems in either and barely any CPU or RAM in use.

How on earth do you program a 2D sprite game so badly it can barely run on it's own when other games that are far more complex and detailed run just fine together?

Point 1: Holy shyt eos posted a funhouse thread!?
Point 2: I'm no programmer but I would figure because 3d is basically the standard thing it's common knowledge. Maplestory, as you have pointed out, has a base archetecture no one, at least at nexon, is familiar with..so I'm assuming it isn't common knowledge even though it's more basic.

By the way how is skyrim? My friend plays on it while were on skype, apparently he has a sadistic cat that likes to chop peoples legs off and hang them by their throat with a twisted in knife. I hear its like fable only first person lol

only the maplestory team do the impossible, see the invisible, touch the untouchable, break the unbreakable, and make "D games weight more than several 3D games at the same time.

Sprite games are older than dirt. Any game programmer since Coleco Vision could do them.

Skyrim is pretty much like every other TES game. It's better than Oblivion so far, more like Morrowind was.

Is Wizet programming anything but?

Good enough programming to get bought out?

If they cared about this game they would have made a totally new engine from scratch and then add everything maple has right now avoiding all of that unused data that is still there.

When has Nexon ever cared about Maplestory?

The logistics of restarting the game on a new engine and keeping everyone's accounts intact would not be worth it. They'd be better off starting a sequel, which means they would have to actually make a game that can compete with the current MMOs out there. That's why they continue milking this one dry.

I'd have had to be angry for that; I don't play Maple so I don't have any vested care. I just marvel at the degree of crap it is.
I suppose I could've SpeakEasy'd it but really, how serious can the conversation be? It's an idle observation at best.

I always thought I lagged in maple because I was too far from the server. I never thought it was because the programming was bad. Weird that I could run WoW without any problems lol

The brain part.

Wasn't Wizet was bought out by Nexon.

Daniel Chin (NXNeutral)
Q) How did Nexon America begin and what exactly is Wizet’s relationship to Nexon? What is Wizet’s current status?
A) Nexon America is Nexon Corporation’s North American publishing and game service arm. We started with the localization of MapleStory for North America, and have grown to support multiple game launches in North America. Wizet is the developer of MapleStory and also a subsidiary of Nexon Corporation. The Wizet team continues to develop and add content to MapleStory around the world.

That aside, even if it were true, what would make you think the code was reviewed by anyone whatsoever? Purchases are made based on popularity, not based on having been done right and being properly scalable.

I really wonder if Nexon will actually look into this and hire someone who actually knows how to program a 2D game.
I'd love to be able to play more games at once instead of strugling with only MS itself.

Unlikely. It works 'well enough', why fix it. And playing other games besides maple at the same time isn't incentive for them to fix it. They want you exclusively.
