how does reflect work?
#1
i have been wondering this for a while, how does the reflect skill work? the one where when you attack, the monster receives one damage, and you take damage instead.

Exactly how you've described it? There really isn't anything else to it than that. The damage taken is based on values set by the data rather than the damage you can or would do and the frequency of damage received is dependent on the speed of the attack. A mechanic attacking damage reflect with that 100% crit skill of theirs would die instantly whereas a slower skill like demolition would dish damage once which ends up making reflect a very classist buff.

interesting, also, does it reflect damage equivalent to the number of strikes, or the number of attacks? i.e. a dragon knight using buster, would he receive 3 hits, or just 1?

and there is no way to determine how much you would get hit back? like fixed damage that varies due to boss? since you said what damage you do doesn't matter

Attacks.

The damage you do does not determine the damage dealt to you. There are values in the data that determines that, like i said before.

perfec then, so if i understood right, a NL using TT with SP will get hit the same as a DrK using sac, and that is defined depending on the monster.

any chance you have a link to the values? i think they have been posted around, if you don't have them i'll dig for them no prob, and thanks

The values if not posted already are only visible to those who can dig through the data themselves.

The major problem with damage reflect is that it is bloody hard to spot at times. The monster will get a purple symbol over its head, but it appears later than the effect itself. It is not unusual to find yourself dead and gone before you know reflect is up. Some bosses have skill animations as they cast that is pretty easy to spot, some does not.

Yeah, damage reflect the way it works now it totally retarded. Reflect activates before it it shown...

Since damage reflect is such an overpowered / inbalanced skill, there should at least be a CLEAR sign when a boss uses it...

Right now it completely ruins game fun imo, also since you can't anticipate for it, it requires no skill, just luck... :/

indeed, dragonoir's is really easy to spot, as his animation starts long before he casts it.
barlog is more annoying, but that works with timing.

but i was wondering mostly to see how careful i should be on an un-MagicCrashed monster (or Van Leon)

now, i have been playing with crash, but since most of the time i am alone, i wonder, does it block summons (i would try in cwkpq, but the bosses are glitched) or buffs to status (defense, attack etc.)

and if it isn't too much of a topic change, apparently, from looking at the site, it seems to have been concluded that monsters only have PDR as a defense method, if so, when they cast def-up skills, they are increasing their pdr?

@ above: i find it fun actually, forces you to be more careful, unlike seduce, which is just plain broken., you can work around reflect, you can't with seduce.

I have a question about this still too.

When you get harmed from damage reflect, is there a cooldown after the damage or not? Particularly for something like Hurricane, would the user be under a barrage of blue damage numbers until death, or just one reflect every second?

PDrate, from what I know, is a modifier applied after everything else. PDrate 50% = [total damage] / 2
I'm probably wrong.

But damage reflect goes through invincibility frames. So hurricane-ing a DR'd boss would result in rapid damage reflected back to yourself and death.

It does not block summons. It does block status-up buffs.

There aren't too many bosses that have Damage Reflect. Start a list?

Lilynouch: ~2k
Black Witch: ~4k
Dragonoir: ~15k

Mu Gong does it too but I forget how much damage it does.

Honestly neither Damage Reflect nor Seduce are all that bad for Warriors unless you're not paying attention at Dragonoir (for Reflect) or at a monster that does 1/1 (for Seduce).

You're damaged every time you attack.

Examples:

BM - Hurricane is what, 16 arrows a second now? So you're getting reflected 16 times a second.
NL - TT is six shots, so 6 times per second, etc.

I'm pretty sure that's how it goes. I know on my BaM with Quintuple Blow fighting the 4th job machine I was dead before I even knew what happened.

Lol, I don't think you are going to get reflected 16 times a second with hurricane, but it does sorta work like that, just slower than that. I know when I killed Lyly on a BM and didn't feel like paying attention I got reflected once-twice, and I don't think I stopped in 1/16-2/16 a second because I noticed damage reflect, I'm a human... Multiple reflects don't activate THAT fast. Do 2-4 arrows nonstop and that' s probably going to be only 1 reflect. It has been a while since I played a BM and got reflected, but surviving because I noticed reflect and stopped in less than 0.1second? I don't think so.
TT counts as 1 Shot only. Same as any other multiple atks such as x5 blow.

My bad then. I don't really play a class/fight monster with reflect. And I didn't even know the 4th job Resistance boss did reflect, so that's more than likely how I died.

Hurricane was and still is an average of 8.3333 arrows per second (120ms). It only seems faster now because of Final Attack. With Final Attack (assuming Final Attack can even trigger DR), it's an average of 12.6667 hits per second.
