Mecanic 2nd skills
#1
From what I've been reading; we are supposed to have all 2nd skills maxed? (before 3rd Job)
for (Mechanic) and if so, then I'm missing 7 points oO in Portal.

You'll have all FIRST skills maxed, you will not have all 2nd skills maxed. You have to give up something.

There's 130 points worth of skills in 2nd. You get 123. Usually people take it out of either: rocket jump or heavy weapons mastery.

You not max Rocket, maxing it is useless because it only decreases the MP cost, Portal can be useful sometimes so MAX it.

I second this. Rocket Booster is useful to an extent, but setting up portals saves time and makes going back and forth round a map much much faster, hence increasing your %/hr

On maps that actually require it. There are next to no maps until higher levels that even remotely use portal.

I left points out of booster. Though now that I'm 4th job, next SP reset I'll be leaving the points out of Heavy Weapon. I saw no reason to leave rocket unmax.

Because the point of Rocket is to shoot you upwards, which it does at all levels. Damage is sort of insignificant and MP reduction is pointless.

The same can be said for Booster, and Heavy Weapons Mastery becomes worthless in 4th, and most don't even use Flame at all. You can't go wrong by not maxing either of the 3, and I just saw no point in 2nd job to leave Rocket unmaxed.

next sp reset i will be leaving heavy weapons unmaxed. currently have rocket jump unmaxed. in 4th job, i use gatling in dojo and flamethrower in netts pyramid. so the mastery is useless. before 4th job, leaving rocket jump unmaxed is a better idea.

portal is a necessity. i hardly used it in 2nd job (only at flying aliens). it makes a lot of 4th job maps much easier to navigate... lycan, dgp, blue dragon turtle, rexton, most ToT maps, and anywhere that you use RnS.

So none of you plan on ever RogPQing? Cause if you will... you'll kind of want max heavy weapons mastery.

Building a character based on a near worthless low level boss in terms of EXP and drops would not be very wise. xD

choosing to max a skill which would help in a boss run that you might wanna eventually do isn't wise? And all that you'd have to give up points in a skill which is pointless to max....

318% vs 360% damage for landing on top of monsters... on a skill which you will NOT be using to damage monsters but instead for movement? What will the 360% damage do that the 318% wont? On something like atomic hammer that answer is obvious... you'll be spamming hammer for damage when you're in prototype mode. But on a movement skill? And it's not even spammable like teleport mastery.

If recoil shot (for corsairs) didn't give better recoil, but only more damage, they sure as well wouldn't care about maxing it either.

Then again its your character, if you feel that 48% more damage on an unspammable movement skill your thing, then by all means.

I did not say the alternative was any better, just that Balrog is not reason enough to pick one build over the other.

Because 7% damage on 2 skills that are worthless is far more important than Rocket. Yes, the damage and -mp isn't that significant, but there is no reason to max Heavy Weapon.

That 7% won't mean crap even if you did rogpq, which is just a worthless boss. It gives untradable equipment (and the ones that are become untradable on equip), that is low level. Not to mention it doesn't even give worthwhile EXP.
