Is weed bad?

Rob Wrote: I'm sad no one took the time to read my previous post :/

I skimmed it.

Personally, I don't do any sort of drugs, which my friends always tease me for. But, I don't hold any grudges or judgements against anybody who does; if I did, I wouldn't have 90% of my friends right now.

As long as it isn't terribly harmful to their body, then let one do what he wants.

Just read it now, I missed this thread's revival somehow. Loved it, bro. That guy's concern is almost 99% like mine. I think I have a good idea now.
Although, reportedly smoking pot seems to have brought a condition of mixed symptoms, including but not exclusive to hot flashes, breathing difficulty, and most importantly, overly negative thoughts (not while being high, just to note). Just wondering if anyone has heard/known of anything similar?

I've smoked weed before. its fun but I wouldn't do it alot. If I were in a country where its legal. I might smoke a joint once a month or so. as a writer I think its also usefull but if you abuse it like any substance the effects will wear off and there will be more negative then possitive.

Milelke Wrote:People should ask themselves why there doing pot? Can you name an actual benefit of smoking pot? Hmmm? If you say stress reliever, that's not a good one because a lot of things can relieve stress, medical purposes?, more than likely you do not need medical marijuana, Please, I must know.

No, I don't think so. people don't need to justify it unless its taking over their lives. no one asks you to justify your diet or what products you buy. your arguement resembles a strawman arguement but isn't quite just yet.

no one comes up to you and asks you why are you buying coffee . its the same answer. yet I could say it bad for your health and you don't NEED coffee, whats that? stress reliever... I hope you can see where I'm going with this.

not everything requires a reason. to quote freud "sometimes a cigar is just a cigar" whilst he ment this differently then I do. its the same concept.

you just do it because you feel like it. just like everything else in life. if by your logic you shouldn't do things because they're harmfull to one self then one should almost do nothing . but then you'd say. bounds of reason. and to that I say everyone can defines those bounds for themselves.

note ~ I don't like drinking much unless its either really sweet and then I still don't drink often at all ( maybe once in 2 months or so ) and I don't get drunk either. I don't smoke or do any drugs . I've smoked pot maybe three times in my life and that was on a trip to amsterdam. so three joints in three weeks. out of alot of years.

my real addiction is Coca Cola and Dr.pepper. I can drink that pomegranate all day . ( but don't )

Edit -- Actual benefit of smoking pot - increases Creativity and makes people less aggresive.

Just a random question:

Amongst a group of "friends" at a party, if they all are high, what are the chances of sexual abuse towards a particular girl. As in, if you suddenly out of nowhere find a girl so very attractive, would the pot affect your... restraints to any certain levels (like when drunk); or if you were to witness such an abuse while you're high, would the pot render you more declined to step up for her?

@Kalovale
When your high, your judgment isn't at its best. That's why they have DUI and not DWD (Driving while Drunk)
--------------
Maybe I should have reworded myself-
Pot is one of those things that you get nothing out of from doing, absolutely nothing, you've learned nothing and gained nothing from using it. This unlike most forms of entertainment, you may gone nothing productive from it, but, you may gain something. What I mean is (since I doubt I'm making sense) that, say, you watch Toy Story 3, and you enjoyed it. You now have knowledge about the movie and can tell people you've watched. What about pot? You're not gaining much more than telling people about what happened during your last high, which, I'm sure everyone is interested in hearing.

There's just so many other things you could be doing than doing any drug, whether or not its productive.

There's too much thinking involved there. You would lose yourself in your thoughts before even making a decision. [/color]

Well, when I was drunk I sure couldn't think twice about doing something or not, 1.5x times at best. I'm just wondering if pot could be an equally or more potentially dangerous encouragement for such... situations. Would one stop to think, but think in meaningless circles and start gagging to himself, or would he grab the ass in a split second? Or where would it be inbetween the two?

@ Mil: From what I've learned about pot and myself, I know no harm could come from me trying it. There is no real reason for me to try, of course, I was never a go-with-the-flow kid, nor will I ever be. It's just something in the back of my mind telling me that it'll happen at one point in time. In my point of view, you aren't really in control until you've outgrown yourself, in one thing or another. Not being able to quit biting your nail or doing pot are no different in that regard.

nothing productive? how about all the great music, art, anime, films, books. some of the most creative ideas in the world came from people who were complete potheads or who used pot. for example the legendary John Lenon .

I'm guessing without drugs we wouldn't have such amazing songs ( two of the greatest imo ) like Working Class Hero or Imagine.

Those were people who were creative with or without pot. For the other 99% of you, you will produce near to nothing.

i did.

for someone who's done all 3 weed was the least damaging. Hell it's like what everyone says "Everything in moderation even moderation"

Also at Ike. You do understand there is little to no benefit to playing maplestory, or posting in this forum. You're hitting some very poor and tired arguments.

It's just a shame cali is finally going for it after they have a couple bil deficit lol. ironically the people most opposed to these laws are the drug lords, makes sense if your making a killing

and you base this off what?. most bands who are against drugs tend to suck. and if you ment me by the 99% of you then I'm not a pot smoker. I've smoked 3 joints in my life.

My physics teacher told me this year that kids who use weed for so many years are more likely to develop schizophrenia, so I googled it. Got this website.
http://www.schizophrenia.com/prevention/...drugs.html

Quote:Researchers in New Zealand found that those who used cannabis by the age of 15 were more than three times (300%) more likely to develop illnesses such as schizophrenia

I have a friend that's a huge pothead. A few months ago, him, a few friends, and I were gonna chill. We were on the bus and he just completely got sick or something. He said that he wanted weed really bad, that he was "unking". He got all sweaty, I think he was crying too, he pulled the hood of his sweater over his face in embarrassment. One of my friends had to walk him home because he was feeling so sick.

Eosian Wrote:Coming from the stoner capitol of Texas, yes, yes, yes, yes in order.

Although in all of the above the yes rates as 'equivalent to alcohol' on the scale so draw your own conclusions.

"Bad?" In what sense? Lowering intraocular pressure in glaucoma? Relieving stress/depression? Helping pain (yes, the endocannabinoid system is implicated in pain-sensitivity)? It won't kill you either in overdose (unlike alcohol or, say, aspirin). Yes, it can be bad in certain respects, e.g. while doing tasks heavily dependent on mental faculties. But the answer to "is marijuana bad?" is certainly not "yes."

Chronic alcohol potentially causes brain atrophy (this is contentious, but at the very least it damages neural dendrites). Marijuana promotes neurogenesis--its negative effects on memory are heavily mediated by its activation of the endocannabinoid system that is responsible for selectively forgetting 'unnecessary' short-term memories, e.g. the color of the tables at McDonalds. Memory faculties are largely restored with time after quitting.

While marijuana can be psychologically addicting, quitting marijuana is, as expected, merely psychologically troubling. Alcohol on the other hand is also physically addicting, with acute withdrawal potentially causing seizure-related death. Hell, I find caffeine withdrawal more brutal than marijuana withdrawal.

The blanket "yes" answers are ignorant at best. My issue is mainly with your "alcohol equivalence" statement however.

I can support just about any of my above statements with the appropriate abstracts if you so wish (I'm lazy to pub-med them, must have been the pot!). There's probably a study out there comparing the negative effects of chronic pot vs. chronic ethanol in mice, and I'm certain of the outcome.

Also: Marijuana doesn't cause brain cell death, as one of the posts on the first page state. This is such an erroneous statement that I cringe every time I see/hear it. I challenge you to find a single scientific study that supports this. As stated above, marijuana promotes neurogenesis--the implications of this are not yet known.
