16.

Almost legal.

Is that math?

either 16 or -16. (depends on (-4)^2 or -(4^2)

This thread is almost as random as you. :o

-4^2 = (-4)(-4) = (-1)(-1)(4)(4) = (1)(16) = (2)(8) = (2)(2)(4) = 4(2^2) = (2^2)(2^2) = (2)(2)(2)(2) = Biggrin ^4 = Biggrin ^2 x Biggrin ^2 = Frown ^2 = FrownFrown = sadness :o

As the way it is written, without brackets, the result is -16, because according to the PEMDAS rule, you start with the exponent 4^2 and then multiply by -1.

Remember that -4^2 = -(4^2) = -1(4^2) =/= (-4)^2

-4^2= -1(4)^2. By order of ops, 4^2=(-1)16= -16.

Without any brackets, -16. You're doing -1 * 4 * 4.
If it were (-4)^2, then it would be 16 because it's -4 * -4.

The TS never put brackets around the -4, therefore it's not negative 4.

-4^2 = (-1)(4^2) = (-1)(16) = -16

(-4)^2 = (-4)(-4) = 16

The way is it writte (WITHOUT ANY BRACKETS), makes the result to be negative 16, if there are brackets like this (-4) then the result is 16 but this is not the case.
