The bottom line for anyone else wondering -

The exact ban message states this - Porn links are not appropriate even if they're not posted as an actual hyperlink.

ie: just because it was plain text or not a true/parsed link, or the displayed text wasn't where it really went, doesn't change the fact it was still a means to follow to porn and had no place here.
