Well, I was quite disappointed with their security already. Thinking of selling off my account and play another game instead, or perhaps private servers
MapleStory itself is great, but without good hoster/ distributor, it's just a pile of bs

As long as you are in the same map with him , he will know your password and login ID and your details.
GameMasters can't ban him even if they confirmed that he is the hacker because hackers could just change account and change your password without you knowing it.

This is just sad for MSEA. It makes me wonder how people keep playing despite this constant barrage of a pomegranatestorm happening once every few months. MSEA needs to fricking step up on their server firewalls.

That's probably due to the massive contents we had on Episode 2 patch, Nexon's plot to get back players.

If you're trying to be funny Greg, I'm not finding it funny for once. I don't play MSEA and I think they're insane in multiple ways, but this is just... incredibly unfortunate. Hopefully things will resolve, but considering the database is hacked, I see people hacking MSEA to a point of removal.

Not really. It isn't as simple as typing in a password and suddenly having access to every single thing on the Asiasoft servers.
Databases are encrypted and protected as a whole AND individually, and Asiasoft's' likely require internal IP addresses to access. Therefore it would be quite difficult to gain access to them. Needless to say, perhaps this shows that it's possible - but, just because someone can go ahead and modify Gachapon that does not mean they can also modify accounts. Different databases, different passwords and gateways, etc. etc. . So no, it isn't the end of the world quite yet.

Either way, I suspect this has more to do with packet editing than the actual database(s), but. I've been out of the MS circle for a while, so I guess my opinion isn't 100% valid.

Chinese hackers are infamous for being ridiculously good at hacking, moreso than any other country.

Of course the only difference between chinese hackers hacking SEA and hackers in america hacking GMS is that the chinese actually have a reason to go as far as they have.

Well, since Global MapleStory's population surely is A LOT bigger than MapleSEA's, and, because of that, most people would prefer hacking on GMS, I think it's not the hackers. It's the security.

THe good news is that most hackers in MSEA only care about making money from the game. So they're unlikely to be hacking other parts of the database.

Seems a lot more like it'd be packet editing than database hacking. I doubt the account loss and gachapon incident are related at all. SEA really does need better security though. Wasn't CMS basically HackerStory before? It'd be sad if SEA becomes that.

He was simply voicing how dumb he thought that quote was, and it was pretty dumb. That quote alone discredited his whole post. Normally I wouldn't there was any comical intent behind this post, but this is Greg we're talking about.

Can't really packet edit Gachapon. Gachapon is server sided, correct?
