So, recently I've been wondering why I still play maple. There's very little I enjoy about it anymore and unless something big like Aran comes around, no one else on my BL plays either. I used to be able to simply answer "MONSTER CARDS!!!" but my enthusiasm for that gimmick has quickly died with Nexon's failures and additions that I can't take part in. So why do I keep playing?
I think that for me, it's become part of my habit when I don't have anything else to do. It's free so it's almost always available, and it's only a click away. I would say leveling but I'm at a level where it's pretty annoying/costly to keep going, and all of the new characters that I make can barely hold my interest. I don't care about DPS or bossing. I still have hope for better content eventually and I guess that's why I keep playing.
What about you guys? Why do you play Maple?

I don't even know myself. There are tons of things I could be doing instead.
Maybe leveling? I don't even quest or anything, I get on to train and afk when I'm not training...
I also spend hours a day training, so it's not like I just waste 30 minutes or so.

Simply put: Because I do.
I don't really have any reason to play Maple other than as a time waster.

For me, it's pretty much a glorified chat room. That said, I waste a TON of time on Maple and it's fun collecting stuff (such as monster cards or medals).

Spend 4 1/2 years on one server and make some friends and it's pretty hard to tear yourself away from that until you get to the point where it becomes a real life problem.

Something to do / just for fun / because it's free, Graphics / because it's 2D, Constantly updated content, Reaching level 200 or meet a similar goal (Reaching 120 on every class for me), Collecting monster cards, Bossing.

I started because i had free time and it was the closest thing to any decent videogames i could find (i didn't have a game console at the time and my computer games sucked, minus starcraft, but even that gets boring).
It's fun still so i don't see the problem with stopping anytime soon

I have also been wondering why I still play Maple Story. I came to the conclusion that it is a decent time killer and there are still a goals that I want to accomplish.

I started because a friend of mine from Seattle *had recently moved out of state* mentioned it. I quickly turned into an addicted 12 year old. :|
This was in 2005.
Made friends, so I started logging on to talk with them and such. *has no social life*
Leveling was a major goal until late 2008, when Odin came out and Maple started seeming more insignificant. By then I had established myself amongst Islanders, and made some friends whom I talked with over AIM. I started logging on more to take advantage of an event on my Islander. Aforementioned friends slowly turned into Mabi hoars, so I gave that a shot. It sucked, so back to casual Mapleing. I think I turned towards spending time on pServers, YouTube and Forums around this time. pServers (Odin, FunMS, etc.) went down, and I stuck to forums. I spent a fair amount of time on my Islander over the summer, got bored, and fell into a TV-YouTube-Forum basis.
Now I only play if 1) friend hoars me to get on 2) REALLY bored 3) I get into something, ie a medal, and want it.
Aran hit gMS, so I've been on more than usual, although I still only go on when mah friend comes on "CPQ PLZZZZZZZZZZZZ!"
lifehistory. Yey.

It's an extra thing to do to kill time. I've been playing for what...four and a half years now? (since August '05) I have nothing better to do with my life, so I see no reason to kiss all my progress goodbye. I enjoy the questing and collecting aspects of MS, plus it's in 2D (which is almost a must for me). I go through phases, though. Right now, I've really only been playing after patches. The better the patch, the longer I'll play. Eventually I'll get back to the point where I feel like gaining levels and will do some of that. It's been like that forever...
DFO is a vastly superior game to MS, though. It gets the majority of my attention. Once Nexon stops being gay and releases the real content, it will probably have ALL of my attention. Just another time killer. My life is a pile of them.

Really just to waste time for me. I feel much better playing a game Ill get little to nothing out of than just sitting on my ass watching tv.

I used to say:
To talk to my friends!
To get to 200!
To kill time!
But now I realized I talk to most of them on msn already. And I already trained to 200. And I could be watching korean dramas in my spare time.
Now everyday I just log on, have some nerd rage, and ask myself, "what the pineapple am I doing onn, baw."

Because of the quests, the people I have met there and because I've got nothing better to do :3
Edit:
Oh, and maybe to avoid homework. (Didn't affect my results so far)

Oops, forgot to check the social aspects box.
Basically since it's there, it's (kinda) free, and I've played it for so long, I like to continue on my current char. A lot of the time, I log on just to chat or socialize with friends. I also like to go bossing, since it seems fun to me.
Of course, when I don't have time, I don't play. (I'm looking at you, school.)

You mean all these people I've met online are fake?

Let it be noted that being online telling people to do those puts you several steps below the obsessed mmorpg gamer on the scale of being able to do either.
