Another Ultimates Balance Thread
#1
I'm not sure that there are many people who would agree that Nexon's intent when they introduced the 4th job skill set for mages was for Archmages and Bishops to function as they currently do. [as another example, take monster magnet, which I believe was meant to work in combo with rush, and we know how that worked out]

This is what I believe the original intent of the mage classes [not talking about bishops currently] at 4th job was:

1] Use fire/ice demon to make the enemy weak to the respective element and then Elquines/Ifrit will do "super effective" damage to the enemy.

2] While Infinity is in effect, Mages would be able to "spam" their ultimate, which uses a big chunk of MP, without having to worry about the MP cost. While not in infinity, they would go with the above strategy, perhaps using the ultimate occasionally to finish off weakened distant enemies or something.

This is what the mage classes in actuality train like:

1] Use ultimate, heal mp, use ultimate

2] When low on money, or just to make money, sell leach by using ultimate [I don't blame them with the current setup]

This is how I would propose to fix this [of course it's not like anything'll get changed, but I would like to see how my idea is taken]:

1] Infinity lasts for at least 5 minutes, with a cooldown of 10 minutes

2] To prevent mages from just continuing spamming the ultimate and just bearing the cost of potions, make the ultimate use up 100% of the MP. This way, at most places mages train with MG, they wouldn't be able to take a hit with no MP and all the damage going to HP. This way, they'll only use it during the time of infinity.

3] Fire/Ice demon makes the monster take 2x damage from the opposing element, or is much more damaging, or both.

For bishops, I would say, apply the same thing to Genesis and infinity, and just increase the power of all their other skills, so that they're not useless when not in infinity.

First off, Inb4flamingandlock.

Second, I just think that the ultimates need to be weakened a bit and the single target DPS skills increased a bit. Maybe 250 base att for CL, 280 base att for paralyze, and 310 base att for angel ray. Then, take maybe 100 base att off of each ultimate.

Bishops need a freaking mob skill besides Shining Ray.

This is a really tired debate, though. I don't think it needs any more discussion until Nexon decides they want to make some changes to the current setup. Then we can complain about how bad the new setup is.

With all do respect, I think that you're jealous of how simple and how fast a mage can train and then make the money by 'training'. This is not meant to insult you in anyway.

Now onto your things. Making an ultimate use 100% of the MP would be absolutely ridiculous! How would you make it so putting points actually does something? Would it start out low like at 25% then slowly yet steadily increase to 100%? Or would it be a 1 point skill giving the maximum strength and taking maximum MP?

As for infinity, 100% agree. 40 seconds is not nearly enough time for the skill to have any real use.

I also agree with your ice/fire demon suggestions. They should also make it so that CL does not get so weak ( they did this already! Big Grin ) and make the skills overall(CL Para. and AR) stronger in general so that when you're at a boss such as Zakum or HT you can do something while weapon cancel is up. It may not be a lot but, it can drop the bar a bit if 1-3 people are using these attacks, which would be likely because if they did this, bishops would use AR, hopefully.

You're acting like Kabanaw said to take away genesis or something. Weakening it would still allow it to be better than shining ray. And before 4th, angel ray and hs suited them just fine, being the #1 levelers up there with DKs pre-4th.

It would always use 100% mp, thus justifying the massive burst of power that it is =P
The power would just increase each level

I just don't think that you can support the position that the current Archmage/Bishop training method is the one that Nexon intended. In the same way that Nexon did not intend for Stat-less classes to exist, but someone saw their advantage, and as they became more and more popular, Nexon developed things catering to them.

Making Ultimates % based instead of MP specifics would fix 2 things
1) being way cheaper at higher MP. If you have 30,000 MP, a 3500 MP cast is only about 700 mesos.
2) Archmages costing twice as much as Bishops, except during Infinity time.
3) Dragon Roar is hilariously bad in comparison, because it uses 30% HP and only does as much damage as Powerstrike. Should Ultimates do the damage of 2nd job skills?

If it went 42%(1)->80% (20)->60% (max) and had a 5-10 second cooldown I might consider it balanced. Alternately, leave the cast time, but make it require Infinity (either specifically only able to be used then, like Energy Charge skills for buccs, or by putting the cost above 30k MP) to be used, thus no cost but not usable 100% of the time.
