Or maplesea's formula is different?

Take off all your equips...then compare with lvl 1 noobs with no equips on.

Fiel Wrote:While you raise an interesting point, the difference between that and a player's MATK is that a player has basic attack listed with the skills and a mob does not... unless you have another idea as to where this value could be found?

Well we know how the formula works going forward, so why don't we take the damage we receive from a mob and reverse the order in order to find the missing values. Then once we have those values we'll have some data to see if the missing value is unique constant Variable, a Exponential, or something else.

I don't think Level plays such a giant factor as gets thought. I was most often hit for 15 damage and saw one 14. Also I didn't take a pic but Green snails dealt me 13 damage consistently.

Level does matter, it's just a complicated formula.

Hard for my Hermit to even get hit by Blue Snails (happens about 1/15 of the time) but they were always 25.

What you proved was was either something to do with Player stats and/or class, but not level. Since your level is higher than mine, but less than LightningZLaser's Bishop. If you look at both me an Laser got hit for about the same value even though Laser is 80 levels higher than me.

What if each class itself has an unseen 'Natural Defense'?

Level does play a role on how much damage you take from monsters (you can easily see this when you make a Beginner, damage you take will go up as you level if you don't get new armor), however, it's not really that big of a role.

Regarding Paracelsus's point, I just experimented a bit and found that plugging the monster's attack into the magic formula as MATK, with monster level as base spell and 100% mastery, almost works. I say almost because it breaks on certain extreme cases, such as squid ink, level 200 monsters, electrophants, etc.

I'm pretty sure that monster attack is the sole factor in its damage output, disregarding the defense side of things.

Squid ink is considered a magic attack, not a physical attack. That might be a little different. We're just talking physical damage here.

They do, it's just easier to relate it to player level.

As you level up, your "natural defense" goes down, resulting in 6 damage at level 5 becoming 15-16 damage for magicians, 25 for a thief.

Since Blue Snails do so little damage anyway, the effect is smaller - on something like Bains the class gap is upwards of 100. It costs more to demonstrate that though, and low levels can't even take a hit.

The same formula applies to monster atk/m.atk in every test I've done, there's no reason to believe they're different. I figured out the original formula by estimating from the Crimson Balrog's magic and physical attacks. It's just less common for the m.atk of each spell a monster uses to be listed, most sites only list the monster's matk which is not even linked to an attack in every case.

I'd like to think that magic attacks (technicality: squid ink is PADamage) use the same calculation as physical damage, since they use the same variable names. And they seem to match up.

i.e. PADamage on squid ink is 145, which is the same as the PADamage of Robo, Blocktopus, Nependeath, etc. which have similar damage output.

Then again that may be the difference between being a beginner versus a magician or thief.

I just assumed that if no attack value is listed, the monster's attack values "cascade" down.

When you said it broke on Electrophant, did you mean the Lightning Attack, or the touch? I've noticed that the Lightning Attack is about 10 times what ever touch value is.

My W.Def is 191 with my current Equips on.

I just checked. The damage is adjusted in the wz files specifically to 300 for that attack.

*Is getting Pics*
Exactly.

The lightning attack has 300 PADamage, while the monster itself has 130. Plugging in 300 in the aforementioned manner produces 492~533, which is definitely an underestimate.

eh ninja'd by Fiel

As for class/level/defense, a level 16 thief takes 11 damage from blue snails with 0 def. Definitely lower than Stereo's, though maybe there's a cap after which further leveling doesn't decrease anything. Or an asymptote.
And a level 35 cleric takes 12:

What is an electrophant's actual damage then?

The electrophant does have a few more flags, namely "jumpAttack". Could that have bearing?

jumpAttack, as far as I know, means that if you jump, the attack doesn't hit you. King Slime, Mushmom, etc all have it.

I think the true problem is the Classes 'Natural Defense' since that will always exist even with 0 W.Def. So I think it'd be best to figure that part of the formula/Equation first before trying to figure out what base damage is, or at least have multiple people post pics of themselves getting hit at various levels with only 0 W.Def as part of the process. I'll be uploading my pics on my Deaviant Art Account under the 'Scraps' title, and I'll post a link in my 'Signature'.
