GM Blog : Coming Soon: "The Battle of Crimsonwood Keep"

Crimsonwood Keep.

It's beautiful, isn't it? And it's just going to get better and better.

Coming soon is the Crimsonwood Keep Party Quest. It's a pretty elaborate to-do that has been keeping the dev team running around like orange mushrooms on oh too much sugar (Just pause a second and get the mental image). The quest is near completion, but one big step remains: Playtesting.

In case you don't know, when we finish making something, we have to test it again and again. This helps us figure out any potential problems, as well as provide feedback on the updates. It's quite the mix of business and fun when your company tells you that you MUST play video games. :-)

So, NxProse just swung by and handed us all the briefing on Crimsonwood Keep. This helps us to be well versed in what to expect, so that the test goes smoothly. We took turns reading it, and I feel I can summarize this PQ in three words:

Expect. Big. Things.

In every way imaginable. This quest is complex, it furthers the storyline of MapleStory, it's challenging, it's fun, and there are measures to make sure that it is never exactly the same thing twice. We can't spoil all of the secrets of this quest (Where's the fun in that?), but we do want you to know how much fun it is going to be, as well how much work has gone into it. So, without further ado, here are some of the notes that have been scribbled across the PQ briefing:

"The only way out is up – and they better move fast, as the automatic defense system...will scroll up slowly..."

"...where –name removed- will explain everything."

"Due to the time limit, players will need to split up..."

"...The Test of Wit..."

"Players can observe this area and deduce who was behind this..."

Those just give you an idea of the air of mystery Crimsonwood has, as well as the dedication players will need to crack those same mysteries. In addition, we would like to tell you that you will need experienced Maplers of almost every job path to complete this quest. You will definitely want to contact your guild and buddies to get through this one. You may also wish to go reread some teasers that are scattered throughout the forums and game itself, to help you understand what's going on.

That's all for now, though. I'd write more, but they don't want me to mention how many bosses there are, the underwater chamber, or how much Jack Barricade plays into all of this. I guess I'll have to let you find out on your own. ;-D

Happy Mapling!

EDIT:
Chronicles of Masteria Update:
NxProse Wrote:Anyone else hear that noise?

Probably just me, almost felt like somthing had changed rather drastically...like a brand new PQ and some dedicated spawn maps.

So, the next chapter in the tale of Masteria is nearly here: "The Battle of Crimsonwood Keep". We've pulled out plenty of tricks, and simply cannot wait to have the community experience it.

GM Blog should be up by now, and I'll (hopefully) have some time on Friday to answer a few questions. However, we've got new maps, new Bosses, new stages, new music and new rewards for your party, should you actually complete the numerous, never-before-seen challenges within...

Until then, feel free to speculate on how many bosses you'll fight. And how you'll get there...if you haven't finished your Masteria quests, I highly, highly recommend you do.

And remember, No Mercy. Which of course, doesn't mean "unfair". Wink

Some details are coming soon...

This'll be interesting. Makes me wonder if there are merchant NPCs inside Crimsonwood Keep as well, because travelling all the way up there's a peach. Would be surprised if there wasn't an item NPC there.

I wonder how strong the monsters will be..

Oh...crap. Race to the end while being chased by one of the totems of doom/other insta-death obstacle. Sounds like climbing. I wonder what happens when you fall/lag...

:X

!

HE DID NOT JUST SAY UNDERWATER AND BOSS IN THE SAME SENTENCE. I SWEAR IF WE GET AN UNDERWATER BOSS I WILL... I WILL...

I DUNNO. BUT OMG.

I want this NOW. If you don't screw this up Nexon, and give us something really amazing, I will forgive all the pathetic crap you put us through.

I think that more than likely, there will be a town type area nearby. For one, the top of the Mountain on the map is marked as a blue dot. Blue dots are only used for towns, that is maps without monsters where return scrolls take you. Hopefully there will be a few maps outside the PQ as well, some pure-spawn hunting grounds.

The anticipation of the next two weeks shall be hell Sad

Wow, that sounds pretty sweet.

I wonder what kind of rewards we can expect? New/old weapons? Pots? Scrolls? Hmmm the possibilities are pretty exciting.

"Due to the time limit, players will need to split up..."

Sounds like nobody will be completing this first day. And its gonna be crammed, impossible to get in to.

Even so,
R> khaini party for first day CKPQ =D

Uh oh sorry Paladins.

Maybe the race upwards could take place in that underwater chamber?

That image looks great, very detailed and epic scale. I can't wait to see the inside of the keep. Oh and it looks like Nexon listened to the community for once with the pure spawn maps.

I like how they threw in the gun in the same hand using the sword on that statue Rolleyes.

Anyway, am I the only one who feels like HB is going to be an absolute requirement here?

And holy crap, a JQ in a PQ, wonder how "exclusive" the rewards are =O

The Crimsonwood weapons plus new kinds of weapons maybe?

Maybe some Crimsonwood armor that would kick Bosshunter to the curb.

I wonder if we will get a new Gachapon...
THE KEEP GACHA!Mad
....NOt that I would use it.- I rarely gacha anyway-
BUT OMG AWESOMENESS!
I am hoping for a boss right between Zak and HT.
With a uniqueness that isn't teleporting all over the frickin' place.
Imagine a boss that big MOVING.
And US having the teleporters.
And insta-touch damage death for most classes. Like 10K.Glitter

I wonder if they'll give Crimson Guardians a proper drop table.
Anyways, I can't say I'm extremely interested. Hopefully they'll pull through and add some party maps that are comparable to Skelegons, or some solo maps that beat Crimsons.

The gun looks like it's more under the armpit than in the hand if you ask me.

It could be in a holster on his side, but I think it is in his and, and the sword is just stuck in the ground.

I personally think it would have looked better if the bow would be in the top right hand and the claw be on the bottom right. You can barely even see the bow Frown

Yay. To bad I won't be of level to do it. =[

Hm... looking at it again... The way his hand is positioned, I suppose it makes more sense for it to be holding the gun.

Hope they also throw something for lower levels in there, and ben dem haxors.

If they do all of this, it will mark the day nexon DIDNT screw up.
